SuperStock
I want to get a flip tailgate hadle and or just shave the handel. My question is what are my options to get the tailgate open. I have a truxedo tonneau cover and I do not want to take it off. I have not heard good this about popper to open the tailgate. Just wanted to know what my options were if any. SuperStock
So this is no a popper correct. It just pulls them open not like a popping motion. Do you have a video of it working?

Correct not a popper. There are 2 rods in your tailgate. 1 solenoid per rod. I do not have a video. I installed a HEAVY DUTY switch. These sol will pull quite a few amps. The power for the switch comes from the batt wire located at the rear end of the truck. Let's just say a 15 amp hold fuse would not hold the amperage. Here is a link to the solenoids. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PAIR-60-POUND-SHAVED-DOOR-HANDLE-KIT-DOOR-SOLENOID-KIT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33696QQihZ016QQitemZ260707709756QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Edited January 12, 2011 by Hawkman (see edit history)

hawks
How the the tailgate is there a button some where or in the cab? Switch is mounted in the bottom center of gate. Behind the trim piece on gate.
SuperStock
With my soft cover on how would I get to the button? Is there a other place I can put the button.
hawks
With my soft cover on how would I get to the button? Is there a other place I can put the button. I talkng about reaching under the tailgate lip. The opening between your tailgate and bumper or roll pan which ever you have.
SuperStock
I have to think about it. Im not sure if i want a button. Or if there is another way I can get my cover open to access an handel from the inside of the tailgate.
Miller812
Well you can always put a button anywere you like its just a matter of running the wires. Or if you have a remote start you can run the wires to the brain and hook it to your trunk wire and then you can open the gate with that. mcmahan
Get a alarm that has a trunk pop on it and use a remote instead of a button. It is a good idea to put a button in as back up though

Or if there is another way I can get my cover open to access an handel from the inside of the tailgate. Well I have a flush fit hard cover so it's easier for me to drop the gate and then lift the cover. If there were a problem were the gate didn't open I can still lift the cover. Have to get my fingers under the lip of cover. I have the intimidator ss wing and didn't want to pry my fingers under the cover everytime I wanted to lift it and risk leaving scratch marks on the wing. hawks
I think I still have the relocator frame but not the filler plate if you interested in one.I took it back out and made my own frame fort the solenoids. I used the filler plate on my tailgate. Nothing but a curved oval piece of sheet metal that a body man could make for you. If you want it I will look and see if I still have it. I had it powder coated black. Make me an offer. Chris
SuperStock
All the ideas are good. I dont have an alarm system. I dont reall wanna run poppers or soloniods nor remove my truexdo cover. So sound like to me i'm not getting a relocation handel unless I find another way to get into my cover to open the tailgate. I was thinking I could run a strap and pull on the strap to release the trxedo cover and open the tailgate that way. I just need to find something that will work.
