Engine Swap For My Car

Recommended Posts

Okay so I have been wondering if I couild swap my older 3.1L engine in my 1995 Chevrolet Beretta Z26 with a newer 3.1L or 3.4L V6 engine? They are the same engine I found out, just the heads on the newer 3.1 and 3.4 engines have had some changes and the manifolds. So far my 3.1L engine in my car is getting very bad gas mileage and I am just broken from trying to work on it and fix it. This engine used to get me about 430 miles on a 12.5 gallon gas tank and now I'm lucky if I get 250 miles on my 12.5 gallon gas tank. This really sucks and I am in need of some help very soon. Right now my engine is having serious problems and I think one cylinder lost all compression or it's not firing anymore, so i think this engine is running on 5 cylinders cause I lost throttle response a little bit and the power is just not there anymore it seems. And when it gets up to speed to 55 mph, it makes the whole car shake and vibrate and it never did this before but I know its the engine cause when i let off the throttle, the shaking and vibration stops. So I know the engine mounts are possibly bad in which I do intend to replace them soon, but I need help with this. Can anyone help me please? I was looking for a newer 3.1 or 3.4 in the year ranges of 2000 to 2004 I guess. Can anyone help me please? I need info first and some advice as to how to go about doing this? I really do like my car cause it is a good car and I've grown fond of it cause I have some custom mods that I've done to it and the car just suites me I guess. I really need help, I'm breaking down and I'm losing it... :(

Sorry dude, I don't know enough about that line of engines to answer.

Now OTOH if you wanted to put a LS-motor in there, I could probably help with that LOL :pimp:

Seriously, you said in your original post "They are the same engine I found out" so what's keeping you from doing the swap?

Mr. P. :)

Well I need to know more details first. Like will I have to get the computer box for that engine since it's a newer engine and will I be able to use the same alternator and starter off my old engine for the newer one and the coils and other things?
