Fireman31
Some guys switch to the green stuff, but a majority still use Dex Cool, it's fine...
silverado_ss_04
dex cool here
Cramer
Just don't mix the green and orange coolant. You will have to do a coolant flush in order to replace the orange Dex-Cool with the green.
BlueAKSSS
I replaced my coolant original Dex Cool with new Dex Cool a couple weeks ago. Works fine. Edited September 13, 2011 by Matt* (see edit history)
Bad Bowtie
Dexcool is just fine, just be sure to only add distilled water with it....
mr84ss
so why did they use the dexcool in these trucks if the green antifreeze will work?
2001silverado364
It's supposedly more eco friendly than the green stuff is what I've heard. I've also heard it's more aluminum friendly, I don't believe that one though.
ocelot729
Dexa-Cool adds a coating to the inside of the cooling system from what im told, also you're able to run it longer than normal green, however there is a draw back to dexa-cool, it's corrosive, fairly, on these trucks as long as you flush them and maintain the system you should be fine, I was working on a 97 Tahoe, 5.7L all that jazz and one of the sensors I was trying to replace broke off, this one was directly in contact with the coolant. If you wish to flush your system and go green, I'd do it during summer and flush it out with pure water, when it finally drains clear, go green. or go orange, either why is good. I am curious what coolant the Supercharger guys are running? green or orange?
Fireman31
I am curious what coolant the Supercharger guys are running? green or orange? The blown trucks I have seen in person/helped work on usually are running Dex Cool with Red Line Water Wetter additive.......
8hnpSS
i run dex-cool and water wetter. as long as you dont the dex-cool sit in the truck for 100k your ok i would change it every 50 to be safe
f1ss
Their was a thread about coolant servicing, mentioning not to use a machine that uses solvents. I believe it said you were supposed to flush the system both forwards and backwards and use the same fluid you intend on running in the truck for the flush (so your flushing your coolant system with the same prodcut you will run). Ive been trying to find the thread for 2 hours but still no luck.
