holdenhunt
So I dropped off my truck today at a tranny specialist and they are gona build my tranny and install a PTC converter. He told me it would stall somewhere between 2600-3000 but I wont know for sure until its installed. Also it is going to be a 10" single clutch unit. My question is my current tune was set up to run my 222/224 cam on the stock converter, and am currently running no torque management. With the new combo is it necessary to retune, I do not want to if it is not necessary, but if I will be risking the life of the tranny for some reason I need to know. Also, has anyone ever used a PTC converter? I was told that they are a great converter and have read of many people running them on forums. Thanks
The_aSSet
If your line pressure was increased in your current tune you might need to take it back to stock depending on the build of the tranny

Second was there a failure for the reason you are building? Either way it will need to be tuned for the build. The tuner should know what it was built with. Its nothing thats a big deal for the tuner but the main thing is the adaptive shifts need to be cleared and reset. Also some might disagree but in my opinion some torque managment needs to still be there. 1-2 should be fine but 2-3 and 3-4 as I said should have some torque managment set in. I say this because the 3/4 clutch pack is one of the main issues in a 60. Hopefully he does his research on clutches and tolerences for the 3/4's. Also I forget what code is it, but the PCM see "slipping" due the higher stall with the converter. This code will need to be deleted in the tune. But your stall speed you claim you might not have this issue as I havnt heard someone having that issue with the lower stall speed you claim yours will be. Just something to think about. Last I havent heard of PTC but that doesnt mean anything. Or is it PATC?
holdenhunt
The truck is tuned by Nelson and im having it rebuilt because I have noticed that the slipping has been getting more obvious and it often holds the shift points out too long. Im not completely sure of all the parts that will be used in the build but I do recall that he mentioned the upgraded sun shell, input sprag, kevlar clutches, vette servos, and a shift kit and this is only a few of the things he mentioned I just cant remember what all else. And the stall is a PTC, I called him back just to make sure. Thanks for the help

Also the "vette" servo is the 2nd servo so only single. Its called vette because corvettes came with this upgraded servo that has the bigger surface area for fluid apply on the 2-4 band. Nice piece for the price for sure over the billets. Either way it will need a few changed in the tune but if the tuner is aware of a modded transmission they should have a few basic questions and know what to change. Last I have never heard of PTC but again that doesnt mean anything. To answer ur question direct yes the tune needs to be modified for your trans mods.
