super88
I dont know much on transmissions.. but I was thinking of maybe putting a turbo next year and in the mean time work on the tranny,.. is there parts that I could just add to the tranny so it can hold up or should I just purchase a built tranny? The_aSSet
Sweet Jesus do not buy that. Go to a junkyard or find one on craigslist you should be able to find one for under $500 if you look long enough and wait for a good deal.

super88
so do I just ask for a used tranny from a Silverado and just say I want a 4l80e tranny??? thanks again guys
The_aSSet
Pretty much, as long as it doesn't look beat to shit it should be fine, then find a reputable person or shop to dig into it and see if anything needs to be freshened up or fixed and throw a shift kit into it while its apart. And if you have awd you need a 4l80e from a 4wd truck

super88
cool, one more question.. what is the difference with a 4i80e and the trannys in ours SSSs??? Edited May 22, 2012 by super88 (see edit history)
The_aSSet
They're better lol? Stronger parts since they were made for HD trucks and vans. It also had different gear ratios so be aware of that and parasitic loss is more than with the 4l65.

8hnpSS
unless your shooting for low low 11's a FLT level 7 4L65E should be fine... Edited May 23, 2012 by 8hnpSS (see edit history)
silverado777
4l80e = $500 shift kit = $85 conversion kit = $750 have someone go through it to make sure its not messed up = $250 Drive line adjustment = $250 Subtract your stock tranny you can sell = -$250 _________________ Total = $1535 or..... you can buy a FLT level 7 for just over 2 times that ($3295)....I'm just saying... Learn from my mistakes and go with an 80 if you're going forced induction Edited May 23, 2012 by Silverado777 (see edit history)
