07TXSilverado
Hey guys, i have a 2007 vortex max nnbs 6.0. I plan on running American racing headers 1 7/8" primaries x 3" collectors. I'm in a predicament, i rushed ahead without thinking. I bought 2 spin tech 9000 mufflers single 3" inlet and outlet, and planned on running 3" true duals. I talked to Nick the owner of ARH, he advised to me that i would lose a lot of torque in doing this, as his kit comes with a y pipe that merges into a single. For being just a bolt-on truck daily driver, what would be my best option (i have plans in the future for an engine build, maybe forced induction..) ? I don't think i can return the mufflers, i will check in the A.M to see if they shipped yet.
JC03SS
It's a little big IMO but lots of guys have 3 inch. Maybe leave the cats or put some high glows. But it's gonna be loud. All in all you can do without the y pipe and go custom from headers back.
07TXSilverado
i was thinking maybe going into an x-pipe after headers then dual out into mufflers and turn downs maybe 2 1/2" or 2 3/4"...but honestly Ive never ran headers on a vehicle, and i don't want to lose any performance gains from any of the mods i will be adding to my truck. The_aSSet
Wanna sell one of those mufflers lol? I would just merge with a ypipe if you're gonna go 3" But 3" back won't hurt performance that much.
07TXSilverado
lol you plan on running another? and thanks for the replies on the pm, i think i will love the 9000 sound as well. loud doesn't bother me lol
07TXSilverado
whats the differences in the y and x pipe? do they both do the same?
The_aSSet
Well y merges the 2 pipes into one hence the "Y" and x pipe crosses the 2 exhaust streams like an "X" I'm not sure how i'm gone run my new exhaust just yet, I have the 3.5" ypipe so I may run 3.5 single all the way back or dual 3. Not sure. And no problem man. You'll definitely love the sound
07TXSilverado
haha i knew they made the x and y shapes, i didn't know if one design was better for holding more back pressure or what.
07TXSilverado
I'm still open to any ideas guys, but as of now i think I'm going to run ARH, and arh's "y" pipe, 3" pipe to a single spin tech 9000 and turn downs Edited September 26, 2012 by 07TXSilverado (see edit history)
The_aSSet
The y would have more backpressure, the x would probly be less backpressure than just duals. But im no expert in fluid dynamics or pulse waves. I think you'll be happy with the y pipe setup
Slammed05
I would y it and run single out. Get better back pressure to me. Then sell your other muffler to me since I'm 10 miles down the road. No shipping lol
