4l65 vs 4l80 why?

Recommended Posts

?????? where did you pull this out of? the second fastest truck on this website was a 65e. and many low 11 sec trucks are still 65e. ive had my built 65e for 3 years now and it runs like a charm and its taken some serious beatings. and im going to be putting it through my D1 setup this spring for some more beatings. i dont understand where and why people keep saying this

Sorry I will rephrase my previous statement:

Based off of reading lots of posts from people on this site, it seems that more people have had issues with the 4L65 that those who have had success (especially stock ones), Now that not to say that everyone has had problems with their 4L65e, there are those who have had plenty of success with built 4L65e’s.

Many people on this site have decided that the 4L80e is better suited for their needs, and you hear less stories about people having issues with the 80e compared to those with 60’s

people forget that 80% of the 65e failures are because they get them rebuilt buy some hack who claims to build race transmissions. then they come on here going off about how much a pos the 65e is. a properly built one will see these trucks into the 11s no problem

well in my trials i twice ripped the planetary gears out of 4l65e and melted one, so i upped to the 4l80e only to tear that apart on the first hard pass( bad luck with some spring inside) and then melted 4th gear out of another one built by PATC.i think having 4th gear wot in my computer helped with that one (165mph on gps). some people with more power than me dont have any problems with the 65 . best advice i can give is don't cheap out get a built trans from someone with a good reputation spend now so you don't have to spend more later
