  1. i had this same issue of soft brakes and turned out to be the brake propotioning valve was siezed
  2. well in my trials i twice ripped the planetary gears out of 4l65e and melted one, so i upped to the 4l80e only to tear that apart on the first hard pass( bad luck with some spring inside) and then melted 4th gear out of another one built by PATC.i think having 4th gear wot in my computer helped with that one (165mph on gps). some people with more power than me dont have any problems with the 65 . best advice i can give is don't cheap out get a built trans from someone with a good reputation spend now so you don't have to spend more later
  3. well after a flush and filter and now filled with dexron 6 i seemed to have dropped 20 degrees on my trans , guess i will see how long this holds together lol . here is to a fun filled winter nothing like a 5400lbs rally truck and a lot of stunned subarus
  4. what would cause clutch wear from a mechanical stand point ?
  5. the converter stalls at 2800 , i have the tru cool cooler and yes the converter has been rebuilt with the trans . i typically see around 200 f although in stop and go traffic it will go higher
  6. i used the harness from http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4l80e.htm , tune was from westers garage
  7. the last one lasted about 2500mi before it melted and im not driving it that hard , in fact the last one i was on a long highway trip when it failed
  8. yup thats why i went that way cause people said they dont blow up , i have been through 3 .
  9. ok so i have been on this forum since the start and have found a lot of useful info but cannot find a good answer to my problem . my list of mods is on the bottom . the problem i am am having is that my truck eats transmissions . my current 4l80e that seems to be working fine just went in for a normal oil change and the mechanic found a lot of clutch plate material in the bottom of the pan , which leads me to believe that it is not long for this world . i am looking for opinions on what could be going on assuming the last guys to rebuild the trans knew what they were doing , could my tune be causing this ? line pressure to high or something like that . seems like its the 4th gear clutches that burn up first . trans guy blames the tuner , tuner blames the trans guy . i am lost and tired of spending money on this .i love this truck but the wife is gonna make me sell it if it breaks again lol and may not let me mod the cts-v . so help please . i need to go fast oh not on the list below is the tru cool cooler although my trans still seems to run at around 200 F mine is the level 2 4l80e from these guys http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4l80e.htm
  10. does anyone have a layout of how to run the temp by pass in this install ? which line is to the cooler which to the trans ? which way does it flow ?
  11. just a note for you i had a&c in edmonton rebuild my 4l80 and it has been running great , not the cheapest but the fact that it hasnt blown up yet is worth it to me lol
  12. you will love that car . i have a 2009 cts-v with a manual trans , i love this car best car i have ever driven , only have intake and exhaust getting pullies headers cam and tune next spring . dont launch like the sss but still fast

  15. both the 4l80 i blew up were built second one was supposed to be good for 1000 hp but i guess that was in a corvette . still havent found out what blew up this time but i think it was the tc
  16. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4l80e.htm i got everything i needed from here and had my trans guy measure for the drive shaft and a local place change my lengths , went very smoothly . the flip side of this is that i have blown the 4L80 3 times so they are not indestructable . altho this latestest time it was my tc that went . truck is just sitting for now
  17. nice setup just have to find someeone here to do that for me . thanks for the pictures
  18. and lets not forget how very poorly most speedometers read at high speeds ususaly 15% or so if not worse , i know bikes are horrible for have speedos that read high . and gps only works if you are on a straight flat road otherwise it will be off too
  19. our trucks wont shift into 4th at wot unless you have it put into a custom tune that you want 4th gear wot . i have 4th and have gps at 155mph might be a bit more but the drag is huge at that speed even with my power pushing it
  20. when my 1st trans started delaying shifts it was the first sign it was on its way out didnt last very long after that hope thats not the case for you
  21. i am looking for a solution to my belt slip and falling off problem . i have a 408 with a mp122 magnuson , i have an 8 rib setup with the hd tensioner . at idle i can see the tensioner bouncing and i can feel that it must be loose under full throttle because my power steeeing gets loose . will the katech unit fit on this application and do you think it would solve this problem ? any other possible solutions ?
  22. there are 96 000 mi on the truck , 43 000 mi on the motor ( head gaskets just redone and cylinders inspected ) and 6200 mi on the trans
