SSenvy
So, since ive had my truck, under light throttle 1k-1600'ish i have a hissing sound coming from the engine, i believe. to best describe it, you know the sound power steering makes when you have the steering wheel it cranked all the way, and its kind of has that releasing pressure/air sound? Thats what mine sounds like slightly less harsh though. It Makes this sound in park, neutral, or drive.... Its not hugely loud, but kind of takes away from the engine noise when my windows is down at low rpm's. So theres no confusion my hand is totally off the steering wheel when it makes this hissing, its strictly when i lightly push the pedal to putz around parking lots, and what have you.. going straight, turning, it doesnt matter I guess i was hoping someone could give me a magical answer or tell me if this is, or isnt a normal sound lol. I used to think it was just the transfercase or whatever at work..... but since it does it in park pushing the gas, or neutral, i think it rules that out? Suggestions or ideas would be great, Thanks Edited January 19, 2013 by Quicksilvers (see edit history)
temetcalfe
First thing I would do is take belt off and start it to rule out the accessories...of course just start it for a minute to just see if it still makes noise-dont run it long without belt hooked up.... My 03 (120K miles) has power steering noise (again)...at 100K I changed out the fluid and it quieted down but its starting to whine again and is a little "jerky".... usually just at idle.... Fireman31
Can you get a video of this noise?
JC03SS
Does the noise speed up as you accelerate or is at low rpm only. Being from where you are you could have a small exhaust leak.

SSenvy
Sorry was at work, Ill get a video for you guys. The sound gets drowned out as more rpm's are given. The sound never gets worse, or goes away as far as i can tell.
