I had the same thing happen to my truck. Dont waste the money on a new EVAP canister or vent valve. All you need to do is get under the truck and remove the plastic tube that connects to the vent valve. Remove the vent valve and use compressed air to blow the valve out. You might have to sit there for a a few seconds, you will hear the valve get unstuck. Replace the tube and valve and your done I never had the issue again. the gas cap wasnt at fault either.

 

 

The valve is right on the side of the fuel tank, you will see a big black box that the vent tube connects to.

It a relocation kit, it uses the same bracket but you move it out side of were its at. Its a pain to do but easyer if you have a lift.

 

To locate it go underneath were the gas cap is, and look up under=, no need to pull the bed or drop the gas tank it can be done with the truck up on ramps.

I had the relocation kit put on as well, there was a GM bulletin about it apparently? The guy at the shop told me the stock location is no good because it get clogged with dust from the wheel wells. Sorry if I'm repeating something already said... It's worked out well for me though, no more check engine light, and not expensive.

Hey I'm going though this issue right now and can't find the vent valve

I dont have any pictures. I can get some. The valve actually sits close to the top of the canister. You need to be careful when you remove it as the plastic hose can be fragile. I had to be careful with mine. Ill go and take some pics.

 

What your looking for is the round plastic valve. I couldnt get a closer pic without removing the metal shield at the gas tank. Its not easy to get to, basically by feel feel and tilting your head up, due to tight quarters.

 

I took this pic from the passenger side of the truck. You want to go after the last valve on the right. Remove the hose and the electrical connector. Open the plastic housing, remove the sponge and blow compressed air thru it, and try to seal off the end to get the a good seal. I had to do mine like 3 times for about 10 seconds before I got a good seal with a rag around the the blow gun. Then I heard the valve pop. put it back together and never had the issue again. I found a write up with pics on the net some where and did mine.

Go to post number 6. That is what you want out. remove the round top cover piece. and blow air thru the nipple part and the round end. You will hear a pop and your good to go.
