so tomorrow we have our yearly truck pulls out here and i have this 95 1-ton dully diesel now. well i want to pull it. i never have pulled anything before so im looking to you all here for advice. my dad is saying to use 4low in 2nd or third gear to have the down low grunt to dig and pull the sled. a guy at work said to use 4Hi in 2nd or third so i can take of very quick and keep momentum. i think im leaning towards the 4low. any ideas guys???

4 High, 2nd and 3rd gear. I'd definitely do 3rd if you don't want to shift during your first pull (I wouldn't, and you might never want to). You'll get a feel for it and maybe tweak your strategy later, but that's what I'd do. Drop the air pressure in your front tires as much as you can beforehand, and get the sled rolling FAST off the rip!

Like he said. 4lo won't give you the speed to keep the sled moving. Momentum off the start and keep it moving is the key.

well i have to say it went pretty good for first time.after all the time there and watching and talking to people there and some veteran pullers i ended up airing down tire and i ran 4low in 1st gear and did pretty good. pulled 211 feet outta the 300 total track. it really worked good. took off easy and layed in to when i knew i had traction and the rpms went right to 3000 and stayed consistent. the video is a little rough cause they turned the phone sideways. i know next time will be better cause i found alot of stuff to alter like the bump stops and add weight. i gotta research on how they do tuning on this cause its a 95. got a full 5'' exuast, kn filter, adjustable waste gate, and all the proper gauges. the pits were a mud pit and waiting in line for 2 hours in 4low just to be able to move had the trans way hotter than it should be. the green duramax pic won the last few years but had a tuning issue this year. he also ran the white one too. i found a video of a while ago when he pulled. its a straight pulling truck and made just for it. the suspension set up is wicked and it has so much power adders done to it. i added a older video of the truck that ushully wins the 3/4 ton and 1 ton class. fully built stroker running alcohol.
