MID12sSSS Posted March 23, 2015 Author Report Share Posted March 23, 2015 I decided that getting it on the road asap wasn't a huge priority. I'd rather take my time and do it right. That way when I turn the key, it's done. I don't wanna slam it together, just to tear back into it later. There will be a few things I'll have to revisit later, like my exhaust cutouts, brakes, coil over kit, ect. But I've got time yet. The roads are still terrible. Even if I got it running, I wouldn't pull it out of the garage until late April. As long as its race ready by May 16th, I'll be happy. I'm not missing the Kool Cruise this year. Next weekend the trans is coming out AGAIN! Yesterday I bought a '96 junkyard 80e which I'm picking up tomorrow, Zippy's sending me a shopping list of rebuild parts, clutches, steels, etc. (hopefully by tomorrow). My tech is pulling out the billet shaft and low planet gears from the FLT, installing them in the junkyard one then rebuilding it from scratch along with a good ol fashioned transgo hd2. Says he'll have it finished up in two weekends. There's just too much proprietary shit going on inside the FLT to attempt a rebuild on it - especially since we don't know for sure what's been causing this issue. This way my guy knows the trans inside and out + I don't have to worry about shipping it off to FLT for a month at a time if there ever is another issue. That is awesome Justin let you cutup a extra harness for your wiring clean up. Yeah, I'm sure you guys up there have pretty muddy conditions when everything starts to melt. It may be wet and melty in Fairbanks but down here its like full on spring which is unheard of for this time of year. Usually there is a ton of snow melting in Anchorage making the roads a mess but this year there has been so little snow there isn't much if anything left to melt. Even just a charcoal gray would be a subtle change and enough to take away that stock black plastic look. Or even AV blue. Something diff than the black or red ones. That engine bay is quickly becoming one one my favorites to look at. Wire tuck is looking amazing also. Great work as always. Keep the updates coming!! Ive got quite a bit to do yet, but everything I touch, I try to make it look as clean as I can. I'll think about getting little coil covers and having them painted. I would be hesitant to paint the coils though. I have a feeling the paint will flake off, and nothing looks uglier than flaking spray paint. Lol. I painted my 112 when I had it, and it looked hideous after about a month. I'll try to get the wiring wrapped up by this weekend. I'll post more pics. Also got my 3bar MAP installed and borrowed a trans jack. So maybe I'll finally get around to putting the trans in. I routed all the wires under the cab and got an idea of what wires I'll need to extend and which ones I will just need to re-route. Then I pulled the harness back forward, gutted all the factory tape/loom. Now I'm bundling groups of wires together that will be headed in the same direction under the hood and taping them together. Should be completely done in another day or two. Depending on when the loom I ordered shows up. Also found some touch up paint.. Really impressed with how well it matches! MID12sSSS Posted March 27, 2015 Author Report Share Posted March 27, 2015 (edited) Well, the wire tuck is essentially done up front. The final product will look a lot like this. Everything is plugged in and wired up. I've yet to loom anything (still waiting on parts), and I have some more wiring to do behind the engine still. Once everything is soldered together underneath, I'll loom it and hang the harness under the truck to where you can't see it. Some pics... The Fuelab filters I ordered for mine and Justin's builds FINALLY shipped after over a month. They're scheduled to arrive on the 4th. Then I'll install it, hang my fuel lines, and slap the trans in. Here's the plan for the fuel lines. Hang them along the inside of the frame rail using the holes from the stock fuel lines... Kinda feel like I'm pissing up a rope hanging the lines on the rusty frame, but I didn't wanna paint it on the floor in my garage. So I'll end up doing it at the shop when it's on a lift. The fuel lines are easy enough to take back off later. I also decided to take the ugly ratted heat wrap off my American racing longtubes. I'm going to have them ceramic coated chrome. I think that'll look really nice under the hood. Only issue is, the only place in the entire state that could do it just got shut down because the owner got busted with drugs or somethin, so I'm SOL. The nearest place that can ceramic coat them is Seattle, so I called a few places and left messages. Hoping to hear back from them tomorrow. Shipping will suck, but it'll look really nice in the end. I'm not gonna stick them in my engine bay the way they look now. And a new set is like $1200, so I'm better off taking care of the set I have. Lastly, I got some -12 AN fittings to have welded to my Fluidyne cooler. Theyre sweeping 90*s with a 3/4" barb. I cut the fittings up and mocked them up to the cooler. I clocked them just right and clamped them down. A buddy is welding it up Saturday morning. That way it'll fit perfectly behind the grille. I'll have more pics this weekend.
