Well it happened...

Recommended Posts

My rear end is toast, loud clunk when I try to turn it, I assume the spider gears or posi is jacked. I have a z71 but would like to know what the spline count is for my axles. anyone know?

I know I have 3.42 gears.

A guy around here has a rear end out of a 03 or 04 Silverado with disc brakes (mine are drums) will this bolt right up for the most part, brakes work and all?.

any and ALL info you guys could share would be awesome, The guy wants like $200 for the rear end I believe (I'd have to double check).

Also would it be better to go to 3.73 gears? or Stock 3.42? or even go lower to a 3.09 or something. guy up here says go with a smaller ratio.

I can't commit on the fit-up from drum to disk setup, but according to your info your 4WD. So what ever ratio you put in the rear needs to match the front. Second, a lower ratio means numerically higher. I'm assuming when the guy said smaller that's the same as lower. So those 3.09's may provide some fuel economy but will be sluggish for acceleration. So him saying go smaller probably means to go 3.73 or a number greater then 3.42.

Yeah, he says the lower the ratio to him means lower gears. dumb I know. :loser:

but would it be better to go to 3.73 gear from 3.42? is it worth is really or would I even notice a difference... and yes I am 4WD so the front must match the rear I know.

the disc brakes is the big concern really to me. it should bolt up and fit but with the master cylinder have the pressure for it? :dunno:

OK, I know you guys have built some nasty rear ends on here to handle the beyond crazy horsepower some are laying down in these trucks.

What are the "best" parts to look at and what should I avoid, speaking carrier wise. Eaton? Auburn? Posi? Locker? Spool?

Spline count should be 33..thats what mine are....but I have the 9.5 14 bolt with 6 lug axles from factory with 4.10s and was my DD for 5yrs...I did drum to disc also, you will need new rear brake lines (flexible at the caliper) and new ebrake cables..

When I bought the used rear end out of a 1999 extended cab with discs, I bout the whole rear end, cables and hoses the whole thing.

the tires I'm running are General UHP 275/55R20

and I was thinking a Tru Trac
