Argo_SS
Just put long tube headers on last week and my steering shaft barely rubs one of the tubes when I turn a little. I figure my engine mounts are a little "lazy", so figured I'd change them. Just wondering what options are out there for mounts for these trucks? I know factory is good, just would like to upgrade now if possible.
Atomic
Not many options available actually...I dont know if anyone makes a poly mount, and you dont want solid mounts.
Fireman31
What brand of headers are they?
kissfans03ss
Why replace them if they aren't bad?
LSupNorth6.0
Have you ever checked your steering gear box for slop? I really don't see why it would hit in a turn as there really shouldn't be any flex to it.. I guess it would help to know what kind of headers you have. The way your engine should pull under load in drive is up and looking at my set up you'd have to have alot of flex in your engine mount to hit the steering shaft. I am just brainstorming here so please don't harp on me lol. What I would do first is do a little brake torque standing still, in forward and reverse, and see if your mounts have any excessive movement. You should be able to see through the gap in your hood. I guess the next spot I would check is the bushing unit in the firewall. I know all trucks are different with fitment and everything, but I would definitely check out all the possible culprits before slapping on new motor mounts.... I had issues with my pacesetters smashing into the frame on passenger side from down shifts and such... Never the driver side though. LSupNorth6.0
One thing we've done with duramax mounts where i work is put a healthy size bolt through them. That clears the block and bottom mount. It may seem redneck but it helps retain some of the anti-vibe and usually won't break again. I have only seen a few if them break and that was on 900+ hp duramax. Maybe An option to consider.
