diggerdan11
After reading about Chris's (CJ_978) headboard project I figured you guys might be interested in the home project I had over the last few weeks. So I am going to be moving to Portland, OR very soon. I have a bunch of friends up there who get together a couple times a month for "wine and dine" well when I move my wife and I will too have to host this even, but we did not have a table big enough for 10-12 people. I was looking at prices and thought they were outrageous so I decided to build my own. Its a farm style table made with a combination of different sized lumber. With the 2 extensions I built for it, it can seat 12 people, or more if you want to really squish in. I think it turned out pretty good, but there is one major problem. Now my wife wants me to build more things I already promised her a headboard, and we were also talking about a buffet to match the table. Anyway here is what i did: Started out by laying out the boards in the way the table was going to look Built a frame to support the table I then drilled holes using a Kreg pocket hole driller which is a lifesaver! and put together the top Also drilled the holes for where the frame was going to attach to the top, and I also cut out the slots where the extensions were going to slide into the main table I then cut the table top to the size I want, and attached the bread boards to the end of the table, and attached it to the frame Edited September 12, 2014 by diggerdan11 (see edit history)
diggerdan11
Then i built the extensions Then I attached the Legs, filled the holes and here is what it looks like before stain I then sanded it down really well and stained it. We decided to go with a ebony stain to match other furniture we already have The reason you see so much light in the cracks is because we used Gorilla glue in the cracks which was a huge huge mistake, even with sanding the glue wont take stain so we had to go back and scrape it all down and re-stain. And I stained the extensions, then i sprayed it with 4 cotes of Polly and its done I realized I dont have any pictures of it 100% complete with the leaves in. I will have to get a pictures. The only issue we ran into is that the extensions are so long they are a little flimsy. My solution is to attach a folding leg to the bottom of the extensions to support them I think it turned out pretty good, the table top is not 100% flat, but its really not suppose to be. Its a farm style table, and many people who build them scratch and mark them up to give it character. Here is a picture of the main table in my house. Next thing is to get some chairs Edited September 12, 2014 by diggerdan11 (see edit history)

diggerdan11
very nice... i like that hole drilling guide thinga ma jigga. oh nice subie too! Thanks. That tool is a life saver. I would not have been able to do it without. All said and done it cost me around $200 and that includes tools. No way you can find a solid wood table like tho that seats 12 for that price.
