cwest94
I still have the original factory tires on my SS and noticed this morning that a couple of the tires have a lot of cracking going on. Do you think this is just cosmetic or could become a safety issue someday?
JC03SS
I think you got all the good out of those tires time for some new ones forsure. Your life and your loved ones ride on those.
kissfans03ss
I have the same issue on my tires but mine are replacement Goodyear and only have maybe less than 5k miles on them,I think I need to look into getting them warrented. Downeast Johnny
If those were my original tires on my 11 year old truck I would figure that they don't owe me a thing and replace them.
Fireman31
They are dry rotting from age, time for a new set.....
SSmoothSilSS
Time for new tires, if there cracked on the outside they are probably cracked on the inside.
SS6.oh
It's called weather cracking. Happens to pretty much all tires eventually . That looks fairly minor.
cwest94
I figured it was dry rot. : ( The cracking goes completely around the side wall of the tires. The one tire is really bad in one section. Probably just age and sitting in the garage is the cause. I never drive the truck on wet roads or in the winter salt and snow, so I guess age is it. I just wasn't sure if I could still safely drive the truck with the tires in this condition locally or not. So no, don't? I'm just gonna detail the thing and park it in the garage and cover it up for the winter and worry about new tires in the Spring time. Plus this gives me a few months to figure out what tires to go with.
Mrrat1SS
belts and rubber can be separating under the skin!! I used an old set of tires just for rolling around a project and the tread blew out from the belts in a 10 inch section, no load or heat from driving just the air pressure blew it apart. I'd replace ASAP..........
