03SSBoy
Trans is acting up and I don't want to waste 1200 to rebuild it. I'm stock. I plan on going turbo in the future. Should I might as well just go 80 or get a built
JC03SS
If it were me I'd stay 65. I believe you can make them pretty damn strong.
03SSBoy
If I stay 65 I'll go to flt or rpm
diggerdan11
Everyone will have a different opinion on this. There are people who hate 60s and 65s and those who love it. h However I have heard lots of people say that a stock 80 is far better than a fully built 65. canadianVRss
This has been debated to death. If you don't mind a little extra parasitic loss, and a bunch of work for the extra peace of mind, all the power to you. It has been proven on here that a PROPERLY built and TUNED 65E will hold some big power. I wouldn't run anything not made by FLT, PATC myself. Just have a look as some of the build threads of some of the quickest members here. It's a preference, both work.
12secss e.mack
If you go rebuild 60 go FLT
cadowns
If you go rebuild 60 go FLT For sure check with FLT, as they are in your local area. I love mine and they are great to work with. This all they do and can be trusted. It will never give you trouble again, and you can build from there. CD

Tyson1972
I'm staying 65 but I'm putting $1800 in parts alone from PATC in my trans that I'm building myself.
Link2603
I switched to a 4l80e, but I never really had any problems with my 4l65e. The hardest part was finding 32 spline input gear for the transfer case.
03SSBoy
Time2Kill makes those doesnt he? well i just dont want to waste 3k to get a built trans thats going to fail in the long run. and then waste another 5-6k for the 80e
Link2603
I honestly don't know if hes still making them or not. This is what I paid to do my 80e swap $500 for my 80e (had 53000 miles on it) $500 for NVG149 with the 32 spline adapter already installed $1100 torque converter (PY 3600) $50 front drive shaft (Junk yard) $300 to have my rear drive shaft shortened and new U joints put in $120 shift kit (Trans go 4L80e-HD2) $80 trans fluid $50 dip stick tube $300 for misc crap I can't think of I redid the cross member and installed the shift kit myself. I also removed and put in the trans myself. I'm probably missing something but that's a close estimate.

Downeast Johnny
Ok so I'm 100% switching to a 4L80E. I will have a total of $2200 in it with EVERYTHING. Your getting a good deal. Tyson1972
Hell Yeah. I am getting the 6 bolt flywheel, 4L80 & the slip yoke for around $600-$700, the cross-member for $140, segment swap for $50-$100, wiring harness $200, TransGo HD2 shift kit $225, and the Triple Disk converter $1200. So it's more like $2400.
