bbbc3
I was wondering if i could get my rims powder coated without risk of them chipping.. i just want the inside part of the rim coated with the lip left chrome.. since i have a one piece rim i didn't know if there would be a great risk of the powder coat chipping off.? don't know if its even possible to do it this way either. Here are some pics of my rims on my truck... couple of different angles so you can see the depth of the rim... Do you think it would look good and be worth doing? http://groups.msn.com/GMCC3Owners/bbbc3.msnw?albumlist=

If the chrome will withstand a blast of about 350 degrees, it would be OK. But... another factor to consider is that heat in excess of 300 degrees WILL change the hardness factor (T and H) and properties of aluminum and some steels. It is a bad idea to power coat a structural element made of aluminum or an alloy steel.
smithl3
That was going to be my first choice of truck. I love those C3's, hot looking ride.
bbbc3
Thanks everyone.. i didn't know how powder coating worked... 300 degrees sounds like a bad idea on my wheels.. that would suck to damage my rims.. at that kind of heat, wouldn't that give my rims a blue tint, kinda rainbow look? NOT that i would ever consider that, but since we are on the topic.?

GUNNER
I dont think the heat for powder coating goes above 250, I could be wrong though. I dont think there is alot of temper in aluminum wheels if there was would they scratch so easily?
ctrow
on my Buick Regal, I put some wheels off of a 87' Pontiac GTA. They were the ones with the gold mesh in the middle with the polished lip. Well I had the centers powdercoated black and didn't ever have a problem with it chipping off. Granted mine were polished lips and not chrome so best to ask a chrome specialist and the powercoating shop. I'd recommend Airborne over HPC coating. JMHO.
