  1. After several weeks of driving now I have a clearer picture of what my new VMax is gonna perform like MPG wise. City driving is very consistant in the 14-15mpg range, while highway MPG is 18-20mpg depending on speed. If I only did the speed limit I would easily be over 20mpg all the time!! The computer MPG average is actually pretty accurate on these things too. All in all these are pretty goood numbers, especially for a new truck. To compare the little ladies 07 Ford Sportrac with 4.6L V8/6 speed tranny get's worse mpg in the city and about the same on the highway......mind you we do tend to drive it a bit harder

  3. If towing is not important to you, and the decrease in acceleration (performance) doesn't bug you, then 3.73 gearing is the way to go. 4.10's definitely have more grunt, but if you don't need that, then save some gas. 4.10's don't get very good mileage on the freeway. If I drive 80 MPH, I only average 15.5, even though the sticker said 17. I think they get their highway rating at 55 MPH, not 80 MPH. Wow, you must drive it hard. I see why you just got a ticket. Hehe. The worst tank I have had so far was 12.0 MPG average. This is because I was warming it up every morning for 10 minutes or so. I usually average 13 in town. Not me. I still don't like the new style. I am trying, I really am. I saw one driving down the road the other day and I thought to myself "what an ugly truck." Then I realized it was a new GMC Sierra with a billet grille. I think they look like a pug. You know, those flat faced dogs. Maybe they will grow on me eventually, but they haven't yet. Mike Up here in Canada the EPA testing is done @ 80km/hr(50mph) so it is understandable how a person can almost never attain the EPA rating on the window sticker. So far I am actually pretty happy with the MPG of my new V-Max. Averaged 18mpg(imperial) on the 6 hour drive home from buying the truck @ 75 to 80mph. That's about 15mpg US. In town for the last 5 days or so it is running 12 to 13mpg US. This truck has not hit 1000 miles yet so it's MPG should get better. As it stands now it's getting about the same MPG as the Ford 5.4L(with mods) it replaced. Like I said so far that's not bad!!!
