  1. well bottom line, the HPS will stop better than the ceramic. The trade off, slightly more dust, possible noise. I have noticed with some other ceramic pads by other brands tend to crack. This may have to do with how those brands retain heat, I dont really know. I have not however had this problem with hawk ceramic pads.

    *side note*

    Be sure to bed the pads properly. Ive seen to many pads go south because they were just put on and run.

    Will do!! :flag::flag: (Any part numbers for an 05 right off your head?) :chevy:

  2. This is not a recall, but an extension of warranty coverage to 7 years or 70K miles. I would get it done as Dephi electronics (they built them before going out) were not the best at that time. So, it's not a matter of if it will mess up, but when.

    Your second question; you can take it to any Chevrolet dealer you want. No questions asked. They may give you shit, but they shouldn't. It's not a cheap fix even under warranty, so I would think they would welcome the opportunity.

    This is for 03-04 only correct no 05's? :dunno::dunno:

  3. Got my notice today in the mail ...

    Now does having a 3 mph discrepency on my Speedo count?!?!?!? or just live with it. Probably a PCMforless problem.

    So does that mean that it is a real recall now? Can I call my dealer and have them replace it or what?

  4. hmmm.. i get a whiny noise when i turn left.. wonder if we have the same problem.. lemme know whats up bro.

    The steering gear box is located at the end of the steering shaft. There are valves inside that allow the pumping and flowing of the steering fluid. If one or several of these valves start to stick when the truck is turned left and or right it will cause a squeeling noise. The fix is to have the dealership replace the steering gear box and THEY NEED TO DO AN ALIGNMENT on the front end. Go and have them check it out and see if that is what it is. :cheers::thumbs:

  5. that really sucks, however- i wouldnt complain if i were you.....

    this is just an example of the worst possible outcome of this situation, to make you all feel better. i know ive kind of talked about this incident before, but never posted pics. this truck has haunted me ever since, as soon as i start it up i see flames inside the car... it freaks me out.

    heres a good pic so you can see the fire- caught the plastic fuel line that goes into the tank on fire, but thankfully i put it out right before it lit up the 26 gallons of gas.

    in case you are wondering- the discoloration is residue left from the fire. a broken output shaft caused all this, and im sure you are ALL wondering how a 330 ft.lb 5.3L broke an output shaft- the driveshaft was not properly balanced from the factory, and right under 100 mph, the vibration came on quick and snapped the shaft....resulting in BAD things, such as myself nearly burning to death. i have alot more pictures if anyone is still courious as to why i urge you all to get your driveshafts balanced :ughdance:

    oh ya, the irony of this situation is all you broke is the shaft and the $$ PI verter. i broke everything BUT the stock converter (including 43% of the trucks value in parts and bodywork, and yes it was a loaded LTZ :cry: )

    :puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::omg::omg::omg:

  6. ok so 2 weeks ago i have a FRONT end alignment after my 2/3 drop.....a few days later i noticed it was still pulling to the right a bit....i figured it was bc of my tires possibly....so i rotated the back tires to the front and the front to the back (kept them on the same side not opposite) will it helped alot but it still slightly pulls to the right...so today i call the FORD dealership(only place that can do 22" wheels locally) and the service guy is like "well something must be bent or loose ( :icon_bs: ) and theres nothing we can do with a GM front end" pretty much tells me he doesnt want to mess with it.....so im pissed....my question is is there a way to adjust the REAR end....could it possibly be in the rear end instead of front end? sorry for the long post

    thanks!

    Could be the steering gear box located at the end of the steering shaft. If the valves go bad it not only makes a squeeling noise, :banghead::banghead: but causes the front end to pull slightly to the right. Hope this helps. :fart:

  7. My gauge cluster was broken when I bought my truck also. Luckily, they covered that for free but it only took a day and a half.

    I have not had any problems with mine. 05 SS. Is this recall in effect yet? :dunno: If so I will go have them replace mine!! :chevy:

  8. i rolled up to a light tonight with two teen punks in a titan with exhaust. they kept looking over at me and eyeing my truck untill the light turned. i had a feeling he was going to punch it and he did. he got a length on me and then i hit it. i blasted past him like he was in park and i kept pulling up to 80 were i had a good 4-5 trucks on him. then he turned at the next light. nothing special, but it was fun to teach the youngens how us sss's roll.

    Congrats on the Kill! :chevy::lurk::chevy:

  9. I know quite a few guys who have had their clusters fail. My oil pressure gauge just failed and is pegged at 550 as soon as the key comes on. Its either that or the oil pressure sending unit. I'm leaning towards the cluster, and will soon be fighting to get it covered under warrenty. Ever since they found out about my Radix they don't want to cover anything.

    Oh and my Tranny shit the bed on the weekend, frustrating week so far :banghead:

    I can only imagine. :tear::tear:

  10. Dont be fooled...GM's pads are garbage too. And dont think for one second that the rotors are superior either. All of them use inferior chinese iron ore and all come from similar casting processes. My point wasnt that Midas was great, but that GM was crap for twice as much. You get a set of ceramic pads from midas and their rotors or get a set from the dealership and they will perform within factory specs. Same stopping distances, similar fading characteristics etc. Now, if you go with the cheap metallic crap, yeah...garbage compared to factory/dealership.

    The only real brake upgrades are to actually step up to wilwood or baer or other aftermarket brake kits.

    :withstupid:

  11. I heard from a reliable source (GM Service Manager at a local dealership) that they are going to begin recalling ALL Silverado's between 2003 and 2006 (I think...not sure on the 2006 part) for faulty gauge clusters. He didn't say what the problem was so start checking a mail box near you and make sure they don't re-flash your PCM when you go! :thumbs:

    Thanks will be looking out for it!! :cheers:
