Quickie tape measure with the tab up against fender lip, measure to center of wheel I've got 20.25"~20.5", checked both sides just to get the range as I haven't seen a vehicle yet that sits completely dead level.  Also figure you're not shooting for rocket science accuracy here for torquing down your suspension, either.

That's perfect! No, not going for perfection, just to minimize the effect on the rubbers. Thank you so much; you saved me a ton of hassle re-assembling and then dropping off jacks only to disassemble again. It was a multi-jack operation already to get it where it sits now.

    Again, thank you very much!

  2. So I started a suspension overhaul on my front end. Got the truck all jacked up and lifted and sitting catty-wompus right now with the control arms off. I forgot to measure center of hub to fender while the truck was on the ground so I can pre-load the suspension before torquing the control arm bushings down.

Would someone mind measuring their stock ride height SS while it's sitting one the ground normally (front center of wheel to fender lip) for me so I don't have to reassemble everything and take the truck off the jacks just to take it all back apart again to pre-load?

    Thanks so much gents!

GM at some point actually switched to filling the tcases with Auto Trak II themselves. Many people reported the blue fluid on the first oil change. There are plenty of threads on here of people running the Auto Trak II and saying it runs just as good if not better than the DexIII

Sounds good to me, if you still have some I'll take 2. How do I pay?

  4. Haven't seen those long time members who really knew these transmissions around here much lately. Hope your post gets their attention and they chime in.

Best luck Brother. (Good to see you back here).

It has been awhile since I've been around. The SS went from my baby to a daily and other things took my attention sadly. I still lurked a bit to see what people have been up to :)

I've stalked some youtube vids and images and I think I got a good eyeball on which ring goes where. Not sure enough to finish, but sure enough to keep going with it until I find otherwise.

    Hope all is well !

  5. I decided to rebuild my own 4l65e. I was pretty meticulous with my organizing; I did however mix up 2 snap rings while shuffling parts around. I now have 2 snap rings with the same OD but different (slightly) ID. One is for the low-reverse spring retainer (step 2 of the re-assembly after the piston), the other is for the reverse input spring retainer. I'm not sure which one is which and I'm having a small melt down (time crunch + OCD = panic).

One spring is .092 "thick", the other is .103 "thick". I'm saying thick but that may be the wrong wording. Laying the ring flat on a table and standing over it looking down so it's "O" shaped, outside to inside is what I'm calling "thick".

I need to know which spring 886 is in this picture (3rd row down, far right). http://imgur.com/vWUi65t

I have a digital caliper to measure the thickness of them, I just cannot find a reference point to compare.

Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated.

    UPDATE:

Just for future reference should someone search and find this thread...

The thinner of the 2 snap ring (.092)(larger inner diameter) goes to the low reverse retainer. The larger of the 2 (.103)(smaller inner diameter) is for the reverse input spring retainer.

  6. I'm looking to purchase a new transmission, but do not want to go to a different trans that requires more modifications/changes. I'm considering the level 4 street/strip from Front Line Trans.

Has anyone tried this model in their SS (04 AWD)?

I plan to attempt a rebuild of my smoked tranny (as backup) myself using this video as a guide. Is it really this easy? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuE6zwYHj4Q

I did rebuild using this video. I recommend this guy to anyone attempting a self-rebuild. His store has a great selection and he ships fast. He personally answered 5-6 questions over the phone for me.

  7. Looking to buy one or get the correct parts to rebuild one. I've looked for hours online and every piece of information that I gather conflicts the other bits of info. I'm not even sure what rebuild kit is the right one. My transfer case totally grenaded on me (no casing damage though), so I'd need a "gut out" rebuild.

Live in the NE. Delaware, Southern NJ area. Will be willing to pay to ship or drive a distance if the price is right though. Prefer a unit with less than 80k miles, but will consider all.

    Thanks for looking,

    Jim.

  8. Ugh. I was hoping not to hear tranny. There's no movement on front or rear drive lines, Matt... I would pray for a diff right about now :0)

Thanks for the info guys. I did find an '00 Denali Trans and Transfer for $400 (I think it's a direct fit)... I have a call in to them now. Hopefully they still have it.

Is there any way to test a trans or Tcase before it's in a vehicle?

  9. Here's what happened and what I know...

I was leaving my driveway from a stop and under normal throttle I heard and felt a large slam followed by a hellacious noise. I have no reverse (at least not enough to backup slightly uphill) and have not tried drive (but I'm guessing that's gone also). The video shows what gear I'm in and you can hear the audio in real time if that helps.

    - Trans fluid is an okay level and slightly dark... not very dark, but slight. Doesn't smell new, but doesn't smell "rancid" as I've heard it called when bad.

    - I have 1/8" play in the rear of my front drive shaft and an 1/8" play in the front of my rear drive shaft (play in all directions)

    - I have about 30 degrees of free rotation in both driveshafts when in park (from 12 to 1 on the face of a clock, maybe 12 to 2)

04 Silvy SS AWD 155,xxx miles.

Here's a link to the video with audio:

Thanks for any help... my wallet does not thank you though.

  10. 80-90% of women that cheat do so because they discover themselves unhappy in the relationship or the direction it is taking their lives, and instead of showing some backbone and leaving with their head high they instead are too afraid to live alone and shop for a replacement relationship to jump into. She's stereotypical. She's weak. She's afraid to be independent. She's common. She wasn't worthy of your feelings. And you're certainly better off without her.

"Women are like monkeys; they don't let go of one branch until they have a firm grasp on the next."

A friend told me that and I laughed, but it rings true when it comes to cheats.

  11. If we were getting close to agreeing on a new contract we will keeping working but we are not even close they want to take back just about everything we get wages / benifits / job security.. so we had no other choice but to strike . believe me no one wont's to strike but it has to be done..

the first 2 weeks we will be doing 8-12 hr shifts 7 days a week then twice a week so people can get some side work to pay the bills .. and you can travel they have no say we don't have a contract ... chris

I know it's a hike to 351 territory, but we've been putting travelers out like crazy. Revel Casino in AC... just a heads up for what it's worth.

  12. Bad company 2 and Vietnam here, at least till BF3 comes out. Tag is Voiceswithin. PC not console for me

Lol, I suck so badly on PC... I have an Alienware M17x R3 so I have to use a controller to hook it to the TV. The touchpad is baaad for FPS's. I get on target way late with the controller. :0(

Is that your Steam account name also?

  13. Going by the second picture you upped (thanks very much for taking the time to take them), you can see how close yours sits to the sides of the truck. I can fit my whole finger plus 1/2 a finger between the side and the lid.

    Pics coming tonight...

Thanks again for the uploads... I don't have the x2000 hinges though, it's just an L bracket with 2 slots that metal tabs sit in. Can only adjust forward and back.

Maybe I just have an older model.
