1. Why "or larger"? There are a few good aftermarket balancers- Fluidampr, TCI Rattler, among others.
2. What I want to do this week is install this (below) grill and clear the corners... the one real issue I have with the GMC lights (head and tail) are the amber inserts. If anyone knows where to find some aftermarket lights without the amber, let me know! Also, I checked out xenondepot.com for an HID kit for the lows- is $350 about right for the HIDconversions? Thanks, Brandon
3. Somehow city busses make for perfect acoustics at 3500RPM...
4. Next task - mask off the outside and spray the inside of the tips with high-temp black paint... I hate seeing the tubing inside them. Picky, I know. I hear you on the "shiney", but what can you do?!
5. Well, she went on today. One hour later, and it was time to fire-up. I had my buddy stand about 10 feet back off the right side as I brought it up slowly from idle. Idle- nothing spectacular, nice and open, but a mellow note. 1500- nothing much, but a little louder than stock with a slightly deeper tone. 2500- getting pretty full, but manageable (nothing like the old Flows) 3500- "What did you say?" "Kinda loud, might piss the neighbors off!" (good thing I was at HIS place!) Rev to WOT- Holy... He went from unimpressed to, say, a schtuff-eating-grin in about 10 seconds. Me- I'm still smiling! The fit and finish is wonderful, and absolutely no drone at cruise. Exactly what I was going for. Thank you all so much for this GREAT advice. Tomorrow, I'll get my digital voice recorder out and take some clips to post. Until then, time to dream about sweet, raspy exhaust sounds and the soon to be delivered (hopefully?) Outlaw CAI. -Brandon
6. I say gggggaaaaddaam! Nice clip, and nice truck! I'm very ready to put mine on this afternoon- I feel a sick day after the UPS guys shows up...
7. Well, box #1 of 2 showed up today. In it was the pipe portion of the Corsa #14240 exhaust system (Corsa Sport for 6.0L 1500 Classic Crew). After pulling it all out, all I can say is- damn! I'm so ready for Mr. Sawzall tomorrow when the muffler shows up. 3:00PM sharp, I'm on my way to a friends place to make the swap. Now, if I can find my Sony digital voice recorder, maybe I can take some sound clips before and after... I'll see what I can do. Someone will have to help me put up sounds here, I'm clueless in such ways. So, because I simply cannot wait another minute, here's two pics of the kit so far.
8. Gotcha, so, theoretically, the warranty should not be affected? Might other dealerships get heartburn over this, or is this not of concern to you? Just curious, seems as if beefing the trans is never a bad idea- unless it might alter the dealer's/GM's responsibility to repair under warranty.
9. All in all, how much time do you gather you've spent on the tranny beef-up? Is it more of a "stealth" shift-kit, so as to avoid the curious and angry stares of your local dealership, or did you say heck with it and do what you wanted? Sounds like you have a nicely running truck; congratulations!
10. Wow, thanks for the help guys! Appreciate it!
11.

I can understand miscommunications, as they do happen. What I don't understand is when one states that nothing can be done, and (implied) that my only recourse was to not accept delivey and be charged a restock fee (stated). As I said, at this point, if you would just match out-the-door pricing and meet me half way I would feel much better about all this.

Carol asked me if I wanted 2 day or overnight, I stated overnight. That was the whole reason for ordering through you and not Corsa- you had it in stock and could ship ASAP, whereas they could not.

At this point, this is a "he said, she said" situation, one which one one wins. I think it would be fair and equitable to meet me half way here; I think, if nothing else, it is a reasonable enough proposition.

I appreciate your response and your time. I look forward to hearing back from you on this.

Thanks,

Brandon Combs

12. I understand and appreciate your perspective; typically, that would be my preference. After being told (by Carol) that the company had no intention of doing anything to make this right, I felt obliged to make it known. As far as the shipping goes, they did not say it was a drop-shipped item, and said they were "in stock"... which, unless you state it is drop-shipped, would imply you "have stock" in your inventory. It did ship today, so I assume it came out of the TBYRNES warehouse- just with the wrong shipping method. Further, I would love to discuss this with Tom, and I have sent an email to him requesting that he call me. At this point, if they'd just match the out-the-door price with free ground shipping, I would feel better about this. At this point I have neither saved money or received the product faster, which were my original objectives. You know, I must have overlooked this... talk about wishing I had paid more attention PRIOR to ordering... A belated thanks, and I will keep this in mind from here on out.
13. Really? I will definitely check on this! Thanks for the heads up!!
14. 1. I did explicitly request overnight service. As I stated, I could have purchased the product with FREE ground service; why would one pay for ground service when the option was readily available to procure it without shipping and/or handling charges? 2. I did call Tom, and was put on hold for well over 10 minutes. 3. I will allow for this to be resolved, and would prefer it, but the burden to work in good faith is upon TBYRNE at this time. 4. I am not trashing their name... their actions speak for themselves. I would never slander or libel anyone. My intent is not to defame, but simply to provide a warning to others using the factual first-hand experiences with said company as example of the justification of such a warning. 5. Obviously your experiences were better than mine. I applaud TBYRNES for their efforts on your behalf. It is, however, irrelevant to my current issues with TBYRNES.
15. Yesterday (4/16/07), I called to get a quote on Corsa #14240, to which Carol (TByrne's office manager) gave me a price of $809.99. I requested a quote of shipping for overnight service, and after being placed on hold, the costs quoted were $96 for UPS overnight service. I later called back and placed the order with Holly. Today, I received the UPS tracking number, which showed the arrival date as 4/24/07... NOT overnight as requested. After calling and discussing this with Holly and Carol, they refuse to do anything except return the product with restocking fees added. I could have bought this product with FREE shipping if I wanted ground service- I paid extra to get it expedited. Other shops had it cheaper, in stock and with FREE gound shipping... speedycarparts.com was one of a few. All in all, I am serverely disappointed with TBYRNE Motorsports' service, honesty and business integrity. This will be my ONLY purchase from this company, and I'd recommend that you think twice before buying anything here. Sometimes you do get what you pay for... next time I'll gladly pay more and get what I ask for.
16. Thanks for the reminder on the heat/cool cycles... last thing I want to do is lose the tips after going through all this! I'll make sure to have the Sawzall handy for the muffler removal as well. Black2003, thanks for the heads-up on another recommended vendor- it's nice to have options. Back when wrenching was done on the old daily drivers ('70 Elky, '72 K5), calling Summit or Jeg's have having them both out of stock after I took the heads apart was not my idea of a good time... Then again, not my brightest move ever, either... always good to have options...
17. Today was an interesting day... started with a bit of a letdown. Outlaw Power is backordered on their filter elements, so no dice this week on the CAI. Best case, next Wednesday to my door. I love how this always seems to happen with air filters. I'm in the wrong business. On the other hand... Called Corsa (apparently, the "reply" buttons on their many email addresses/PCs are broke) to get a part number for my truck, as it wasn't listed. Just wanted to make SURE I got the right one, you know how it is with "kits". They tell me no problem, PN#14240 for the Sport- and they can ship Friday. FRIDAY?! Geeze, that's like four days from now! My instant-gratification urges unfulfilled, I called TByrne. Sale on the Corsa, and in stock and ready to ship tomorrow. Really now? How much is ovenight shipping? Call it bueno. Saved enough going TByrne that I had it overnighted to arrive Wednesday. So... Now that it's coming (I'm pretty worked up about this!), and the CAI is coming(I hope), mod #3 will be a PCM tune on the dyno, maybe the end of next week. I'll get a second PCM to tune on so I can have a stocker 'just-in-case'. All that said: what would your three top pieces of advice be? I'm always curious to hear what those who have come before me and have 'been there, done that, got the t-shirt and an extra so when the wife complains that I wear it too much I can change it up' took away from their experience. I must say, I'm thoroughly impressed with this forum. Lots of great folks here, and a wealth of knowledge, without a doubt. Thanks again for welcoming me here, and I appreciate all of your contributions. Brandon
18. Are the decals just applied with a heat gun? If so, can they be softened up with just a heat gun? I just ran a search, and all the info seems to discuss ADDING decals, not removing them... I'd love to take the goofy 4X4 decal off the rear quarters. Thanks!
19. If I can't get Corsa to build one for my truck, I'll be getting a B&B REAL SOON...
20. So, did they use the PCMforLess tune as a baseline or start over? Interesting that they squeezed so much more out, but maybe not suprising. Good job, and enjoy!
21. Well, the pictures are crappy but you'll see some of the work that got done today. Started off at 8AM down at the local Rhinoliner dealer in Santa Ana. Came back about 3PM to pick it up, and decided to check out a truck parked at a small industrial park along the way (the monster orange thing in the background of my after photo). Got a wild hair and had House of Tints do up the windows. Joe took good care of me, and I'm very pleased with the results. I have a 5% visor on the windshield, 20% on the fronts, 35% on the back and a mirror bolt outline on the back. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g178/wil...ker/Before3.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g178/wil...ker/Before2.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g178/wil...ker/Before1.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g178/wildhawker/After1.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g178/wildhawker/After2.jpg I'm just beat, so more tomorrow. Outlaw CAI and Husky floor liners are on the way, and next week I'll have a T-Rex vertical billet grill installed. I'd like Corsa or Bassani to build an exhaust, but if all else fails, B&B makes one I'll pick up next week. Not sold on headers yet, Dynatechs at $1500 is a lot of coin for not so much go... PCMforless tune is the next hurdle. All in all, making good progress!
22. Well, today was the day. Dealer called, all the papers were ready when I got there. A few [hundred] signatures later... the proud owner of a new Steel Gray 2007 Sierra Classic/VMax/SLT/Crew/Short-box/4x4 (say that 5 fives). I'll be Rhino-lining the bed this Saturday, and (hopefully) getting the tint done by Wednesday next week. After that will be a CAI, cat-back exhaust (checking on Corsa, B&B, Bassani- any other suggestions??), invisi-shield and a grill (hopefully to be installed by the end of April). I'd like to find a dual rear exit exhaust, but it looks like a no go for this model . I look forward to asking lots of questions, and taking lots of pictures as things develop. Thanks again for everything so far! Brandon
23. My buddy has a Bassani on his Lightning, so does his dad. Nice kit, but pricey. The sound is not for me, but that is entirely subjective.
