  1. Hi Guys a friend of mine got me a nice double din touchscreen for me to go in the silverado. I had commented that I liked his and he got me the same one for my birthday. I love the gesture but truth is it is a Xtron no name brand ebay head unit. I am not big into sound systems so it doesnt bother me much I just know it will be a little more work to get up and running.

I also picked up a back up camera and was curious where the best spot is to bring the RCA cables into the cab? I was thinking of routing them to the engine bay and coming through the firewall but I am not sure if there is a good place in the back of the cab I might be missing. Also what wire do I tap so the head unit knows the truck is in reverse?

This head unit is also TV ready and was curious if it was worth the hassle an additional cost?

I know there will be a lot of opinions on this head unit and I would appreciate it if you reserve comment unless it is real world experience with this head unit itself. I am fully aware that you get what you pay for and there is tons better to be had.

If you go in thru the engine bay, go in thru the intermediate shaft boot, its the easiest wat without having to drill holes. For the RCA's thru the cab, you can get inside at the driver rear cab at the bottom of the floor closest to the back door. The headunit should have a wire strictly for the camera. Not sure if the color wire is the same for all decks.

  2. My driver's door cladding is loose and is rubbing in the front when the door is opened. What is the best way to fix this? Do I have to remove the whole piece? Is there an adhesive or a 2-sided tape? EDIT: It looks like it needs moved towards the rear about 1/4 inch.

    Thanks

The cladding is held on by platic clips and 3M double sided tape. You have to becareful moving it or you can destroy the cladding as its isnt very thick.

  3. i am not sure where your located but i would be more than happy to help you out. go out and check this truck out take my own pic/video to help you out to make sure you get a nice one. with 25k miles this truck could be a cherry.

Im in Illinois about 20 miles from the southern border of Wisconsin.

  4. Sorry to be reading all of this, and the way the story seems to be going now.

Who is her insurnace company "Regressive"? LOL!! :idiot:

In the effort of time management & saving yourself further pain & suffering, I would start with an attorney now! Also, time for a doctors visit bro.

Her insurance is State Farm. I plan to speak with an attorney today and see what advice or help they can offer me. I was already at the ER the night of the accident for 5 hours getting tests and cat scans done. All was good except for the Cervical sprain and strain on my neck and back. The doctor gave me some heavy duty pain meds for the pain, they only do so much.

The truck is now being towed to the bodyshop to get a accurate estimate of damage. I guess State farm is going with 70% of what My truck is worth beofre they total it. If my truck is worth say 15K I would need a little over 10K in damage for them to total it. Otherwise it goes on the frame rack for 3 1/2 hours and they re bend steel supports that are twisted and re use them...... Then I get a truck back that will never be the same, or be able to trade it in or sell. Hopefully its a loss at this point considereding the frame damage and all the supports being mangled.

  5. Little update from today and my stress level increase.

I was told by the other parties insurance that I would have a rental Truck dropped off to me today since I cannot drive do to the pain meds im on until tomorrow. Well that never happened so I cant get to work tomorrow. I was supposed to get a call from the adjuster to look at my truck before he came out so I could meet him and go over the damage. He decides to not call me and look at the truck himself while I wasnt home searching for a replacement Sss. I get home and see the paperwork under my wiper arms covered in dew.

I review them and notice half of the things on the list they want to bend and twist back impact metal bracing and re use it, use recycled parts, and reuse some of the broken stuff like my tonneau cover. To boot they are trying to say my truck had previous damage for the frame being bent etc.... When it has never had an accident since I have owned it brand new off the showroom floor. The damage as of right now without them estimitating the damage inside my trucks dash, totals $8,457.18 without taking it apart and finding more damage underneath.

As I was Looking at 2 Sss and they were both crap. They had leaking oil cooler lines, trans lines, severe rock chips all over the back of the tailgate, and behind the rear wheels, gouges in the paint. The ones tailgate was broken on the right lower corner and came off, the inside door panel was seperated at the lower door pocket and all gouged up, and had the leather starting to flake off the passenger seat.. They lied to me and said they just replaced the intermediate steering shaft. I drove it and guess what clunking I heard? I opend the hood and there was the original coverd in rust. The oil was about 3 quarts overfull. Just for anyone looking the truck was in Palatine at the Toyota delaer off of North Rand Road.

The secong one was also leaking from the same lines, had rock chips all over, the heated seats didnt work, the passenger side mirror wouldnt defrost, the wheels bearings needed replacement as well as the brakes, the trans fluid was black and barely on the dipstick from the leaking trans line, and the suspension was sloppy and way over priced at $19,900. Thats one was in Morton Grove at Athans motors. My day was horrible... the insurance company is giving me the run around. The lady that caused the accident already has a rental, and is getting the brand new car she wants to replace hers. I dont want to get stuck settling for a Sss depending on what I get for my truck...

I just dont think its fair for the lady to put a hault on my life, my truck etc to get what she wants and I have to fight to get a truck in the same shape mine was in before the accident. I figure I should get what I want as I didnt cause this and if this never happened I would still have the truck I always wanted. Instead I have time off work without pay, medical injuries, have to find another truck and worry about how much the insurance will give me and if they will cover the repairs I made to mine etc... I am not saying for my to spend 30K I just want another Sss in the same condition mine was in before and Ill be happy.

Sorry for the book, I had to get it off my chest..... Hopefully my days go better.

  6. I was out of high school for 1.5 months due to my concussion per drs orders. Keep close watch on your back, I wouldnt wish the migraines I get on my worst enemy.

Since the accident, I have had headaches every day. Hopefully they go away. Otyherwsie I have two years before I have to sign papers for my injuries if they are still on going.

  7. Sorry to hear/see what happened. :shakehead: Me personally, I wouldn't write the entire truck off just yet until you get the insurance appraisal and a few estimates from some body shops. You'd be surprised the kind of damage that does get fixed......best of luck to you...

I thought the same thing about it possibly getting fixed, until I spoke with a buddy whos dad owns a bodyshop. He saw the truck today and took one look at the cab being dented in on both sides, and it being pushed outward in front of the bed, and the stance the bed had. He said it would be a loss as the passenger side rear bed sits about an inch lower that normal, and the driver side is pushe dup and in a little over 5 inches. I hope its totaled as im sure it will never be the same if it gets fixed.

  8. I am happy to hear you walked basically away from the accident. I was in a wreck as passenger into a telly poll at 47mph straight head on into passenger headlight (my side) and head was wedged between windshield and dash and airbag in mouth. Permanent damage to neck in multiple areas.

Your truck proves these are strong, safe frames. Like stated, your health is most important, these trucks are replaceable and with patience you can find the SS you will like. Im glad to hear your doing ok sir. :chevrolet:

    Thanks.

To be honest I was wasnt expecting all of you guys to be so concerned. Its nice to know that the group we have here are people who care and will help out when need be. Also to bring up someones spirits when there down.

I appreciate everyones feedback, joking, and concern. It makes me feel better about the whole situation, and forget about some of the pain Im in. None the less to keep my spirits up when I for surely thought I was going to have a hell of a time finding a replacment Sss.

I will keep all of you guys posted and let you know what happens.

I will be looking at my first replacement Sss tomorrow to see whats out there and be prepared when I get the insurance check. I also added a few more pics. One of which is the ladys 2012 Equinox.

  9. That's amazing! How did you take those pix with the camera sitting on the bed cover? JK.

Glad to here you're OK. Little advice, don't sign anything from the insurance company or their lawyers for at least a couple years with those back injuries. I've known a couple people that did or took a settlement and ended up having problems long down the road. One guy had "minor" back issues that turned into nerve damage that is going on 2 years now. I don't mean to scare you, just a warning.

    Good luck.

Thats good to know, I work as a Firefighter and am currently on leave of absence due to the accident from doctors orders. I would have never thought ot if that way. If my back goes so does my job. I will take your advice and kep it in my back pocket. I appreciate it.

  10. Glad you're ok. I know the feeling. Mine got stolen and stripped back in July of last year and I think of the junkyard scenario often. I replaced the SS with a 2011 Ram Crew Cab Hemi and every time my wife and I are driving around in the Dodge, I say to her "Man, I miss my SS". Good luck finding a replacement!

I wouldnt even know what to do. I can just imagine how you felt. I was sick to my stomach, not knowing you took yours etc and that you mighy not get it back. Thanks.... I have already found 4 that im going to go look at. The Arrival blue is growing on me.

  11. It does, Its the worst feeling just knowing that its going to be gone. It really hasnt settled with me until the truck is no longer in my driveway. For it being hit at 50 MPH the truck held up extremly well and I was even able to drive it home with no squeeks or rattles. It rode down the road just like it did before the accident. I will definitly be getting another as this one saved my ass.

  12. Ill post them in the morning. Honestly looking at the truck from the side you cant even tell anything happened to it. From the back view it only looks like the rear bumper and tailgate need to be replaced. Until you walk toward the doors and see the crease and dents in the cab. Maybe Ill get lucky, but Im pretty sure from the cab being dented its a goner.

  13. Im willing to travel to a certain extent. I would really like a 04 and up with AWD.

Thanks, Im glad im ok and that the lady is as well. She was my first concern, I didnt even look at my truck. She didnt get out of her car which worried me. All in all I agree vehicles can be replaced, but you know its never the same as your first one. lol

  14. On my way home today at 5:30 I was stopped in traffic and i got rear ended by a Chevy Traverse at 50 MPH. It threw my spare tire out 30 feet from behind my truck, caved in the tailgate and and crushed it into the closed position while seperating the inner and outer rear quarter panels. mangled the rear bumper underneath the truck, and pushed the tailgate into the cab and then dented the cab in a couple of inches on each side. It also broke the mounting tabs on my radio in the dash, and seperated the dash face and made my instrument cluster go haywire. I have owned the truck since new and now Its going to be sitting in a junkyard.

Im currently searching for 04 Black SSS with the same options to replace mine...

All is all the Traverse was brand new, the lady didnt even make her first payment yet and totaled her car as well. Her car is easily replaced, as my truck is not as easy in the condition and options mine had.

I luckily walked away with only a cervical sprain and strain, back ache, and wrist and arm pain. The truck held up better than anything I would have ever expected from a 50 MPH impact.

I will have pictures up tomorrow during daylight to show the misfortune.

If anyone knows of a nice lower mile 04 and up SSS for sale pass them my way. Im already going thru withdrawls of knowing That was my last time driving it.

  15. I just had the GMOS 04 harness, and the steering wheel control harness installed in my truck as well as new Deck. I have a bad instrument cluster that the stepper motors are going out and work when they want to. All of my steering wheel control lights were out except for the 3 lower buttons on the wheel. After the harnesses were installed my one volume control button light was on, then went out. I smaked the button and the light came back on. My HVAC control light for the fan setting went out, I smacked that and it came back on. Then the light behind the cluster for the tach went out and that wont come back on.....

By installing these harnesses is there a way that my new issues could be linked to the install or just a coincidence.

  16. I have a Alpine CDA 7893 cd player that I have no use for. It was in my wifes camaro and I sold the car and dont need it. It was barely used and shows no signs of wear. It was bought brand new and comes with the remote and faceplate case. If you have a third gen TA or camaro I have the install kit and harness for it as well.

    $125 for all of it.

Or $100 for the player, case and remote.
