  1. What was the D/A?

Any input on the 60' times from anyone? He's at around a 2.1-2.2, running a 3300 stall and AWD. What do AWD trucks with 60e's and about same stall run 60' wise?

Wondering if maybe the 80e gearing has anything to do with it?

Anyways good runs, mph is good too, and low 14s was my guess.

Sorry but I don't know what D/A means  I do realize weather conditions and elevation effect race times, so I'm assuming D/A has something to do with that. It was 48 degrees and that Race Track is 1059 feet above sea level.

  2. Thank you Gentlemen...it was fun. Here's a vid I took with my phone - it was my very first race of the day. Unfortunately when I came back around for my second run, the Race Master Busted me.

You can see in the pic of my truck I have a really sweet HD cam mounted to my rear window that takes a front and back vid simultaneously and records on a mini SD. Unfortunately I just now found out that it wasn't set up right and I only got a short vid of me starting my truck when I was ready to go home...pissed me off

  3. Just got home from the Track and had a great time! I made about 10 passes and they were all very consistent - much better than my prediction of 15.5!

I raced a hot babe in a Ford Lighting and had her for more than half way down the track, then she sucked me up right at the end. I made a note of that race on my stub. Also raced a 5.0 which obviously beat me by a few lengths, but I thought it was very respectable for such a heavy ass truck.

I have several vids which I'll post up later - bros :jester:

    Temp. was 48 degs. too

  4. Ok, you're right, I just looked at some of my pics from my swap...I remember now - it was my cross member that was getting tweaked because the holes didn't line up perfectly.

the only other thing I can think of then is either the mating surfaces aren't completely clean or maybe it's the way you've tightened the bolts, but i'm pretty sure you would have thought to do it in a star pattern.

  5. did you make sure both mating surfaces were really clean and smooth? Also, depending on if you modified your existing cross brace or bought one from PATC like I did, there could be a slight mis-alignment between the Trans. and Transfer Case. I know with the PATC cross brace I used, I had to ream out the holes quite a bit to get the Transfer Case to sit right...this is why I suggested you remove the cross brace in my previous response. Now granted, I had a trans. jack to hold up the Case, mounted the Transfer Case to the Transmission, THEN installed the cross brace. If you do it like I'm suggesting, you'll be able to see if the holes in the cross brace need to be reamed out or not. This will fix your problem!

  6. dooooode, all those parts are so intimidating to me...sooo much work for a newbie like me. And to think I was looking at the Whipple 2.9 instead of the Maggie! From what I'm finding out, that's even a more complicated install than the Jackshaft! I'm seriously considering just going with the regular TVS 2300 or Whipple 2.3 plug and play models....still on the fence about everything. I'm not so sure my skill level will allow me to do the Jackshaft. :sigh:

Everything's coming along nicely for you though...it'll be awesome bro!

  7. Believe it's NHRA rules 13.99 or faster you need a snell 90 helmet. So tracks are more strict then others on that. I've usually gotten away at my local track, making passes at the 13 and 12 second range without a helmet the times I would forget it, faster then that I'd make sure not bring it.

The gearing on an 80E is different so would be interesting to see how the times compare from a light bolt on truck with 80e vs 60e. I know D/A would have to be the same when used to comparison but still be good.

    But I don't see why a low 14 second pass running a 60e couldn't happen.

Let us know what the DA the day of.

Yeah, too bad the track wasn't open before I made my trans. & converter swap. It would have been interesting to see the difference between the two.

Anyway, since there's no 4 wheel dyno that will accommodate the wheel base of my truck where I live, the track is my best option to compare different mods I think. I'll be doing another run once the blower goes on, then another when the cam and motor work has been completed. Should be fun to see the improvements!

This Saturday is supposed to be a high of 60 so I'm hoping to get there in the morning when it's a little cooler and I'll post up the conditions.

  8. The more power you put to them the more they will stall out correct? Just because it stalls at 3000 for example with 400hp doesn't it mean that it will stall at 3000 for 600hp. My understanding is that the more power you make the higher the stall with the convertor staying the same.......

But have heard good things about Circle D converters.

That is correct from my understanding and is why I am so concerned since I'm at 3300 almost totally stock right now and will be adding at least another 200 - 300 hp. I'm guessing that will put me waaay up there.

I obviously heard good things about Circle D as well and that is the main reason I went with Chris. However he stated in an earlier post that he only under "estimated" my hp and torque and is why it's stalling so much higher. I would think there are other, more accurate ways to determine a particular stall rather than to simply guess. If you're going to "estimate" in the future, I would suggest spending more time researching our HP/Torque curve as there is no secret here with our trucks - especially in their stock form as mine is. This way others don't have to suffer by pulling out the entire Trans. again for a re-stall.

I totally understand what everyone is saying about modding and making adjustments, but if it's one thing that really bothers me is doing something over and over from a mistake that could have easily been prevented by simply getting it right the first time. I'm totally baffled as to why you don't have some sort of database of SSS trucks (I could understand if these are brand new trucks - these are 10+ years old), mods and stall combinations so you don't have to "estimate".

  9. In a few days I'll be going to Heartland Park Topeka to get a baseline on my truck. I'm pretty pumped since this will be my very first 1/4 mile run at a drag strip...guess I'm a late bloomer!

Anyone want to take a guess of what I'll run? Right now I have Volant CAI, Dynatech LT, Corsa Sport, NGK plugs, 160 stat, 4L80e, Circle D 3300 stall multi disk and Zippy tune.

  10. I'm not doubting the quality of Chris's converter as my truck makes great power at the top end and it seems to be very efficient up there. I guess it's just my bad luck that the stall is so far off, which might not be so bad if I used the truck for mainly 1/4 mile runs at the track. Anything above 3000 for city driving is just too much, and that's where my truck is driven most.

  11. If you had RWD you'd have faster track times!

Big deal, not everyone cares about a track time, like not everyone cares about driving there trucks in the snow.

Waste space and go open a new thread about RWD vs AWD, and see who cares.

I'll post the vid of my RWD vs a fancy AWD SS if I can find it, so you can see what happens to it from a dig on a unprepped street, n if only I had the vid of the drivers reaction after the race. Sounded like a ricer, oh but I have AWD. Oh but probably won't believe it because the magazines and internet say something different.

And I'd rather deal with drag radials and slicks then to have an AWD system, period.

    Let's move on.

My girlfriend has some PMS shit laying around somewhere...I can mail it to you if you give me your address bro.
