  1. So much for thinking the Sonnax Pump plate would be an easy swap! ...Total pain in the ass! Had to press off both the bearings and gear from the shaft just to get to the plate, then press everything back on. The length of the shaft was what made it hard.

I also checked the clearance of the Converter and Flywheel and installed the bolts. Chris from Circle D told me between 150 - 175 thousandths clearance was ideal (mine ended up being 157) but could be as little as 120 and no more than 200. Also had to trim the Inspection cover slightly to get it to fit.

Also I attached some vacuum hose around the two 80e cooler lines for protection. The new lines look much better than trying to spice the old 60 lines IMO. Easy swap and inexpensive too. Both lines cost me around 50 bucks.

Here's a few pics of my progress today...

  2. Making progress! Started Fri. the 31st around noon and worked on it Sat. from about 10 till 5pm. Got the new FLT & Circle D installed, new 80 cooler lines installed - Part #'s: 15267484, 15812029, Dipstick installed, Transfer Case taken apart, installed new shaft, re-assembled case with GM engine sealant part # 12378521, main driveshaft cut down to 168-3/4" from ear to ear (Shortened by 1-7/8") by Inland Truck Parts (did an awesome job for $169.00), Trans. plug modded and new speed sensor ran into PCM.

All I have left is to install the Transfer Case and drive shafts which I hope to complete after work Monday or Tuesday. I have to say, it was a little intimidating at first but once I got started tearing everything down, it went pretty smooth.

Special thanks to my Brother, Ralph who's letting me use his Firestone shop with all the amenities of a lift, trans. jack, etc., Tech Brandon who let me use some of his tools and ShawnSS for your awesome post on how to do this. It would have been HELL doing this project inside my Garage off jack stands!

  3. Bro, you're a freakin Manimal! I wish I knew that much about these trucks to be able to do that...very impressive! Not quite sure I would go so far as taking it down to a rolling chassis tho, that's a hell of a lot of work! Just thinking about what that baby will do to the blacktop when you're finished is good motivation. Great job!

  4. Ha ha, I smoked him way past a 1/4 mile then put my brakes on because we were in town. About 6 to 8 seconds later, after I was cruising the speed limit, he passed me and almost wrecked around that turn.

  5. Normally, I wouldn't even have considered it, but the kid was getting cocky revving up his engine at the light, so I let him get a little head start when it changed green then stomped on it. Of course I blew past him then let off. Poor kid had some friends in the car and wouldn't let off the throttle till he passed me. Funny thing is, there was a sharp turn ahead and he almost lost it bc he was looking in his rear view at me instead of paying attention to the road.

  6. Sweet looking input shaft.

When Do you expect the trans to show up?

You gotta be getting itchy by now. I know I would be.

Yeah! I ordered it exactly 3 weeks ago today. Chuck told me two weeks when I ordered it, but I realize schedules get thrown off. I'm more concerned with they guy who bought the 60 that's in my truck now. He's wanting to come get it and I can't take it outta my truck till my new one gets here.

FLT has your convertor two right

No, I already got my converter a while back...posted a pic of it the day it came in

  7. Ok. I figured either the 112 or tvs 1900 would work. I'm thinking of the tvs1900. For the extra $700 or so I've heard its more efficient than the 112 correct me if i'm wrong. right around that 6000 range is about right for me I don't think I want to spend over that. My trans does have a shift kit and servos and aluminum acc. pistons. I'm thinking it should be fine for a while? seems to be what most people are running. I plan on running this transmission with the uprgrades it has in it until it shits the bed and just save up for an 80e or built 65e. I could be wrong, but with the upgrades i have it should last me a decent while. I don't drive this truck every day, but when I do drive it i guess i'm not THAT easy on it :driving:

You should be okay for a while with the trans. you have now if the truck's not your DD. The trans. that's in my truck now is built just about like yours but I'm choosing to do the 80e swap before adding the jackshaft blower. Trust me, it pains me more than you'll know to spend all that money on the 80 swap. I so wanted to do the blower first, but I know I'll roast the one that's in it the way I drive, and mine's not a DD either!
