  1. Ok, so apparently the reason I thought PATC's prices were so good was bc their website doesn't work properly...it doesn't add all the extras to the total. I got their bid today for a stage 2 80 and converter...get this...$6,180.00 plus shipping! That price does come with the transgo shift kit installed, harness, cross member, input shaft and everything else needed for the swap. SO, I take back what I said about Jake's - his quote of $4,100.00 + 150 shipping wasn't so bad after all - although that doesn't include the shift kit, cross member or harness.

  2. He's the store mgr. at the one on Kansas Ave in KC KS...the ghetto

Hey man, I DO appreciate your input, but your comment just rubbed me the wrong way so I apologize for my reaction. I have a pretty short fuse sometimes. :fart:

On a different note, I did receive the hood and gate today UNDAMAGED! They're flawless and look even better in person. Got them installed right away and took some pics but they have so many coats of zaino on them the pics turned out like crap bc the clouds, trees and everything else reflected onto them. I'll take some more this weekend and get them posted here, that is if Wheatley gets my PCM back to me. She's laid up in the garage till then.

  3. I've had my level 5 FLT for 8000 miles with a SS 3200 yank convertor and I'm really happy with it not one problem.

When I was searching I couldn't find one person not happy with there FLT transmission

That's what I heard to, and is what I was originally planning on putting in until 2bfast chimed in. Now after seeing this PATC site, I'm leaning toward them. They have every imaginable part on their site - crossmembers for the swap, custom made transf. cases attached to the 80e, transgo shift kits pre-installed, sweet converters, paddle shift kits, you name it and they have it. Very impressive website.

  4. Ok, so now I've been doing a little more research on Tranny shops and pricing bc of these posts. 2bfast recommended Jake's and I just assumed that would be the proper choice, and he may be a great tranny builder, but seems to be overpriced.

Does anyone know anything about PATC - Performance Automotive Transmission Center? ...Just a company I found that seems to have a MUCH more impressive website than Jake's, FLT or anyone else I've came across. Seems to have much better pricing too. www.transmissioncenter.net If anyone has any info or experiences with them, please let me know. Thanks

  5. Just curious why you gutted the cats those are not stock and if they came with the dynatech Lt they should've been high flow cats if I'm wrong please enlighten. just seems like a waste if they were not clogged kinda low mileage for a clogged cat.

Seems like you got it from someone that did there research before modding which is a plus for you nice find.

My check engine light came on the very day I got it home from upstate NY (after driving an average speed of around 80 for 1400 miles), called Teddy the previous owner and he said it was the o2 sensor bc of the high flow cats and suggested I put in some injector cleaner. I ran some lucas through the tank and the light went off but came back on again shortly after. I ran several more bottles through each time I filled up w/BP 93 (which is all I ever use) but it wouldn't go away + the engine lost a fairly significant amount of power. A few days ago I had my brother do a full diagnostic on it and it threw out a P040 code: catalyst efficiency - low bank 1. SO, since Kansas doesn't have emissions testing and I wasn't up for dropping 7 or 800 for new cats, we gutted em. I'm sending the PCM to Wheatley to eliminate the rear o2 sensors tomorrow and have my fingers crossed that the engine's performance will return.

  6. Thanks August/Jason - I'm very appreciative of both of you guy's input on my build! ...I try not to hold any grudges, shit happens sometimes and I may have overreacted to his comment anyway on that last thread - no worries. I may have to pile drive the Fedex guy tomorrow if he's jacked up my delivery tho :idiot:

  7. Hello everyone! I first wanted to thank everyone who responded in my previous post about how to mod out my '04 SSS w/a 15k budget to start. Yesterday I started some preliminary work on the truck to get ready for the 4L80 tranny swap and Maggie. ...We'll see how much $'s left after those two very expensive upgrades!

Yesterday I took my truck to my Brother's Shop at Firestone. We gutted the cats and serviced both differentials.

Here's what I'm starting out with: 2004 SSS , 29,594 original miles, 1 owner, near flawless condition with the following mods performed by the previous owner:

Performance: Corsa Sport, Dyantech LT's W/ Cats, Wheatley Custom Tune, NGK TR55, MSD 8.5mm Plug Wires, Volant CAI, SLP Stat, Transgo HD2-C, Vette Servos, FLT Aluminum Accumulator Pistons, C5 Deep Transmission Pan

Exterior: 2" Drop, Carriage Works 5-piece grill, Street Scene Bowtie, Bed Rug, Soft Tonneau, Silverstars, Factory matched tinted windows, Antenna delete, SS Bowtie hitch cover

  8. Thanks guys. If I were to do the 1900, maybe 2600 - the 2300, maybe 2800 then?

I have to be honest here after getting some numbers together... Preliminary pricing from Jake's - 3k for stage 3 4L80, 850 for billet stall, he's telling me 250 for transf. case parts & work, $150 to have the main shaft cut down, I'm guessing 2 or 300 for a new, longer front shaft (does anyone know if another Chevy 4wd shaft will work here?) - then I have shipping which will probably be around 200 or more if I have him do the transf. case mods. THEN there's the install since my garage won't allow me to get the truck high enough to remove the tranny and replace it....maybe another $500? ...that's already $5150 just for the tranny swap! THEN add on another $6500 for the 2300 Maggie and I'm already @ $11650. THEN a lot of you are telling me to upgrade my fuel system - does anyone have suggestions on manufacturers and exactly what I'd need for that?

I think what I'm getting at is, 15k isn't going as far as I originally expected and don't think I'll have enough for the cam and head work. + I'm thinking that brakes are a little more important after adding the Maggie anyway.

  9. Pro charger (D-1), meth injection, valve job (stock heads), LS9 head gaskets, ARP head bolts, springs, push rods, lifters, tbss intake, 90mm throttle body, x-link, 60# injectors, cam (custom grind), fuel pump, trans (80e with shift kit and torque converter) tru-trac rear, girdle cover, and some other odds and ends. Its a tried and true combination and in budget. Don't waste time on the L92 top end with forced induction with a Pro Charger. For the extra money its not worth it. These heads in stock form will flow with a good valve job with this set up. A good tune by a good tuner is key btw. Sent from my Motorola RAZR MAXX using Tapatalk 2

Thanks, I appreciate your opinion very much. This is exactly why I started this discussion - so I can get different opinions, do research and make an informed decision, so thanks again to everyone!

  10. You kiddin me, this is great research right here! And I HAVE decided to do the build myself except for the install of the tranny & driveshafts which is waaaay outta my league. I'm still a little torn between the Pro and Maggie but think I'll go Maggie for three reasons - # 1 More low end torque = less stall = more streetable and my goal is a very streetable ride with lots of power. + I like smoking douchbags in Fords or Hemi's off the line incognito - hence the license plate # 2 Easier to install for a NB like me # 3 Awesome sound!

    btw, sweet Camaro setup Johnny!

  11. As advertised, I AM a total novice/newbie BUT I do have above average common sense. My common sense tells me to do the build on my truck right and in my opinion, the head swap is the right thing to do over machining the stock ones - especially since there are already clearance issues with the LQ9''s flat pistons. All I'M saying is if I do the cam swap, I understand I should replace the springs at a minimum, so why not just replace the heads for an additional 25 hp while I have the engine apart and beef everything up to handle the extra hp.

  12. Actually the majority of that gain is in the camshaft, but hey looks like you got it all figured out. If you are happy with gaining 15-20hp for two grand in heads then go for it

Actually, the L92 lung change will yield more like 15lbs of torque and 25hp over stock and can purchased from Summit Racing for $920.00 for the pair. SO, if you do the math @ a dollar per hp comparison to the maggie (which yields about 120hp for $5,700.00 or $47.50 per 1 hp), the L92 upgrade would actually be more cost effective @ only $36.80 per 1 hp gained. :jerk:

  13. Lol, when you see a stock motor with a maggie on it, there is probably some form of trailer behind it. I would say over 75% of aftermarket superchargers on motors have supporting mods to either handle the power better, or improve the power delivery.

I realize that, but I was mainly talking about the head swap. If I swapped to L92's with the rectangular ports, I would have to use the entire tvs 2300 so they would mate up...wouldn't I?. The 2300 has the pulley system on the left side and ours is in the front with the intake on the left. I don't think it would work unless I'm missing something. From what I understood from previous posts, just the larger impellers and housing would be used off the 2300.

As far as the warranty is concerned, who really cares at this point, right? They way it is worded, they won't stand behind it unless EVERYTHING is bone stock...including the tranny.

The other solution would be the L92's, fast intake and ProCharger. I bet that setup would make more power anyway.

  14. I wouldnt even mess with L92's. I would slightly mill the 317's, valve job, new springs, valve stem seals, and roll with that.

Why do you say that? If I'm going to go through all the trouble of tearing down the engine, why not just replace them to get these results:

    http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hrdp_0711_6l_hop_up_pt_2/viewall.html

...with the L92's, cam and current mods, I'd be looking at around 510 hp. Then add the maggie onto that and i'm getting close to 700
