  1. shifting is fine with me. I've rode dirtbikes a lot growing up and have also rode atvs. My family seems to love them, even my mom had one lol. Now one of my cousin has it. My other cousin has a Honda Rancher 2WD(350 model I think). So I should look at 4X4's? What about kfx models? I've seen a 2006 400 model listed on craigslist for like $2,300

Oh ok, well then this really isn't a starter machine for ya. Once again that 4x4 thing will come down to where you are going to ride because the sport machines are worthless in mudd and if you are looking at anything utilitarian out of one obviously they aren't the way to go. Also does ride matter very much? The sport machines obviously are made for more aggressive riding so what you gain in handling you lose in comfort. I am bias, but for the sport machines I've ridden (Yamaha Raptor, Polaris Predator/Outlaw, Kawasaki VForce 700, and the Bombardier DS650) the ds650 outperforms as far as ride is concerned but it also weighs substantially more than the others; in a side-by-side race I can also pull away from all these machines when they are stock although I have run against a Raptor 700 only the 650.

My buddy has a Rancher and I've ridden it a few different times. For me it sits too low to the ground and my arms hang down to contact the handlebars - uncomfortable but I'm a pretty big guy so I would suggest sitting/perhaps riding any machine before purchasing.

To me consider looking at a Yamaha Wolverine or a Polaris Scrambler. The Wolverines are a decent machine, 350cc with some decent spunk, and full-time four-wheel drive. The Scrambler was made in 2 and 4 strokes for many years, but you said you were more interested in 4 so those come in a 500cc, with push button four-wheel drive. Also a nice ride.

Another thing to think about is what shops are near you? Around my area we don't have many options for shops - most are 100 miles away. Just another thought. Good luck!

  2. Those of you who have been hit with the recent snow storm, how much did you get.

So far we have had 15" from today and yesterday with an estimated 10" still on the way. Every highway/interstate in ND is shutdown. It has been a messed up Christmas.

100 miles south of ya we received 11.2 or so we're told, but I doubt that completely. How the heck do they measure it when the winds are blowing 40 mph?! My neighbor has a drift in front of their house that covers the front the door which is about 4 steps up so I'll estimate it at 11-12 feet. My friend's parents shop has a drift that covers their big garage door - pry at that 10+ foot range.

I feel your pain. It finally let up. We have drifts that are 8' tall. I spent roughly 9 hours plowing snow with the plow truck and bobcat at our shop today. I'm spent! It makes me depressed looking at my sig seeing my truck all clean on dry pavement. Right now my front ducts and bumper are full of snow and my brakes barely work because all of the snow in my wheels :banghead:

Yeah, absolutely sucks. I got a busted front bumper cover and lost 2 of the bottom 3 SS grille inserts outta the deal as well. Stupid intersections had 4 foot drifts in them after the plows went through.

    No one asked you :uhoh::jester:

Give me your address, I will send you some. lol...

If he does, I'll send some from SoDak too! :P

  3. I've been riding since I was two years old and have been around these things my entire life - dad worked at a dealership/uncle owned one as well - so I think I might be able to give some input.

So far everything everyone has suggested is going to be well over $3k. First important question is do you want to shift or not? How much experience do you have riding? If you're going to use it in the woods and mudd I would stay far away from raptors, predators, yfz's, etc. as you'll be stuck in about 2 seconds. My personal preference is Polaris as I promise you will not find a better riding machine than their Sportsman lineup. Automatic transmission with true 4x4, not the 3 wheeled wonders like Yamaha's are infamous for. At $3k you're probably going to be looking for something in that '02-'03 range with a 500 high output engine. To me that would be a good starter for you.

Now if you wanna spend $9500, I suggest the Sportsman 850 with power steering (one of my current machines) as thing is absolutely nuts. For something that weighs in excess of 800 lbs, it should not pull wheelies as easily as it does! :D

  4. So after driving around last night and tonight with the truck helping out stuck people, digging out friends, etc from the 16+ inches of snow we received, I get home and look at the front of my truck and something doesn't quite look right - the part of the bumper cover below the license plate bracket is pushed in. :fume: So based on how it looks I need the piece where the center lower grille inserts go... hopefully meaning just lower cover? Thanks for all/any help.

Edit: So in this image it would be the piece directly below the 'Motor Trend' bracket.

  5. Caught my attention as well.

I love how they always talk about how they HAVE to make a profit. Wow, good thing they are so sheltered from the rest of the economy... When they were discussing profit margins I was shocked - 16, 24, 28, and 32%? Dang. Kinda nuts.

Also anyone know someone with a Black SS in Sioux Falls, SD?!? Saw it on the west side of SF where 41st and Sertoma meet at a gas station where I was filling up my new ride (I'll post pics later). I'll post this elsewhere too and hope for a response!

Great looking dog! I had a mini schnauzer when I was a young fella. He was an awesome dog. When he was 5 years old though he ended up having kidney failure. Very sad deal. :(

I also had friends who had them and they loved them as well. Both of theirs lived 20+ years.

Can't really speak about JRT, but if ya get a mini schnauzer, I would doubt you would be disappointed.

  7. I'll try to get a pic up of mine or else you can search for the Black Hills meet at the end of August and maybe there is a pic in there of my front end. '03 Arrival Blue with Shopman bowtie with blue inlay and black chrome street scene insert. It'll give ya a good idea anyway.

Edit: heres the link Black Hills meet

This one probably gives the best idea

  8. My mom has a 2009 Rzr burnt orange in color. Thing is absolutely awesome. Ours does 74 mph, but ya gotta be careful if ya hold it there too long. The guy who did it said when she starts rollin that fast it'll jump the belt.

I have a '09 Sportsman 850 EFI and I would really like to see them put that motor into the Rzr. That would make that machine one wicked beast, but from all reports and my dealer friends they say that is not in the works! :banghead:

Love the white plastic though!

  9. Yanks for me - became a fan in '93/'94 when I first started paying attention to sports (born in '85, so the only thing I knew before I was 8 was that I was a Nebraska Cornhusker fan, everything else didn't register).

Regarding how I think it will play out, I am a little nervous. There are obviously a few issues with their starting pitching that I hope pan out, but the Angels and Cards could both give them some huge problems. Boston could too if they can also get their pitching figured out, but Beckett and Lester haven't been very impressive lately. Also neither the Rox nor the Dodgers have enough pitching IMO, but as they say, that's why they play the game!

  10. Was really nice to meet everyone ! Great group of guys and gals'

Hoping this can be a anual thing :fingersx:

Annual... I'm thinkin spring. So no pictures yet huh... We just rolled in a little while ago. Took me almost 20 minutes just to get all the pics onto my computer! Not sure if Ill have em up today or tomorrow, but Ill get some up. There is a lot. I think we took well over 300 pictures. I'm gonna upload em to PB soon. Trying to load some vids of me runnin my buddy in his SRT8 today :D

Couple good runs yesterday too. I have to admit, i suffered a rolling defeat to Derek. Good run tho, back bumper to front bumper. Ran Shawn a few times, toyed w/ him the first run and stayed neck and neck barely in it. So I'm thinkin he was toying w/ me :P Cause the next two runs I only slowly walked away from him so who was playing who I say :uhoh::jester:

I concur that it was great meetin everyone! Great people.

Annual? Right on. Spring? Hmmm... perhaps later spring so it doesn't interfere with tax season??

And you lost to Derek? I was really wondering how that turned out.... Sorry I missed it! And glad to hear ya made it home too. Did Dereks directions pay off?
