  1. Hey what's up people. I sold this to my step-son a while back and recently reacquired it.

I just replaced the fuel pump so it doesn't slosh the fuel out of the pump suction. The pump pressure goes to 40 lbs by 5 psi boost (16.0 AFR). I still have the 42# injectors, but I don't have the FMU on it. I took the FMU off (when I previously owned the truck) since I did the in-tank Walbro 255 lph. Was that a mistake? The pressure was fine according to the gauge back then and the AFRs were good. I recently found a site with a fuel pump assembly with a Walbro 255 lph. It's on the way.

I know I'm all over the place here and sorry for that, but I'm trying to get her dialed in again. I maxed out fuel feed (yes still with a Preditor, lol) in the 4k - 4.8k and 4.8k to shift (+20% for both ranges). It did help, but WOT AFRs are too lean still. Could the FMU solve everything (even b4 swapping the pump) possibly or should I reinstall the FMU even after I put the 255 pump in?

I guess I could put the FMU on tomorrow and c what happens.

Thanks again for the help. I missed this community!

I put this in the first post... newb

Oh and I got an 05 GTO and put in a TVS1900. Love it! That is Black Bear tuned and so will the SSS when I'm close to having the fuel sorted...

  2. Excellent info, thanks for the link and I agree.

I just wasn't sure if a 1500 spring was a 1500 spring. Is thast the case then?

Seems I just need to measure and match them up.

This makes it seem as if our springs are no different than any ext cab 1500?

Maybe the shackles are different and that's how the ride height differs... and the shocks make the ride different.

This post can go away... up to moderators.

  3. Just rebuilt the Powerdyne, so I'm glad to be driving the SSS again.

However, I have a 2000 RCSB 5.3 step side silverado with 203k miles. I put in a GM LQ9 cam and LS6(?) valve springs. Rebuilt the G-80 (waste of time). It's still a fun truck.

I also have an '07 Subaru Impreza STi Limited (315 of 800). Really is a fun car but I'd sell it in a heartbeat now that I have my SSS back.

... and the wife has an '04 Pacifica with right around 190k miles. I constantly give her crap for it, but it really is a great runner. The only thing I've done to that one is plugs and timing belt and water pump.

  4. Ok, I'll have to try and port the box. Come to think of it, when I got these subs they were in this huge ported box made by kicker, they sounded sooo much better in that box than they do in this sealed one. Even with it firing down, it doesn't rattle at all. Thanks for the input.

I'll research how big of a port to do, how deep the tube needs to go into the box. I don't remember, but I think each sub is in its own box and just connected to sit below the seat.

I guess I could just use a hole saw and drill a hole on each side(?), Idunno Then what size...etc

  5. Does firing the subs into the carpet have any ill-effect on sound quality?

I got my SSS back; I retained all of the items I removed for the sale. So b4 I secure the box under the seat I'm wondering if I should put down a piece of 1/4" luan (thin sub-floor wood), plexiglass or just put the thing in and don't worry about it. If it'll help distribute sound better is what I am trying to find out, but if I'm way off please let me know.

    Thanks.

  6. Thanks Man. It's 5% over factory tint. No winds shield strip tho. I'm thinking about one but it's plenty dark. The good is a few months old really sets the truck off. Looks Angry

Wow, that's dark, . Maybe too dark for me, but yeah... mean looking. I'll prolly go 15 or 20 everywhere.

  7. Oh yeah,I know wheel bearings happen, but 4 hours in to a 19 hour drive kinda sucked, lol. Plus I had to tell them NOT to reflash anything...

There is no excuse for him being a slob tho... it's pretty nasty in and out. Ok fair enuf on the seat issue too. But it's gotta get fixed.

Big plans? No not really. It still has the Power Dyne on it. I'm basically limited by that, she goes like a raped ape 0-80 or so then the blower is just too inefficient to provide much more than stock. I wouldn't mind having a Maggie on her, don't really care which one; 112, don't remember the better one/ones. I'll probably finally cave and go with a custom tune... yeah the Diablo sport tuner is out dated and no more support for it. I got a Trinity for the truck I'm in now ('00 rcsb)and I put an LQ9 cam in its 5.3, woke it up nicely.

But what I will do is...

8 rib pulleys (Power Dyne already has an 8 rib on it).

The rest is just to get back to my sig mods. Maybe I'll rebuild my own relay box cuz I never got another one from whoever for the Efans. I took a few things out when I sold it and it's just been sitting around.

Some exhaust work too. Maybe a new Heart throb muffler like is on it and I'll wrap "everything" to reduce drone.

Hell, I could even do LT's here in FL. That'll be down the road tho cuz I'm happy with the true dual 2.5" on her now and I know if I go LT's, I'll prolly go 3" true dual; and only cuz this will always be FI.

    EDIT:

Thanks MuggSS... the four light high beam mod too.

And retint everything too. Only sides done b4 and it's all peeling, so I'll go with FL tint levels now that I couldn't get away with in NY.

  8. Well I sold my SSS about a year ago and got an '07 STi. I know, I know... but I finally got all the bugs worked out of that, so it's gotta go. Talk about a high maintenance b*tch, but fun to drive too.

I sold the SS to my step-son and well, let's just say he didn't maintain it as I would've. Very small tear on the drivers seat, faded hard top bed cover. He lost his job unfortunately and part of the deal when I sold him the truck was that I get first dib on it. Well, it's mine again and I will be keeping it this time.

So I flew up to NY and drove it to FL where I now live. Out of nowhere the DS wheel bearing/hub went on her. That happened in WV on my way home and I had a dealer do the work ($475.00). I actually think that was reasonable considering I was in a jamb.

I have regretted since I got rid of this truck and I'm so glad to have her back. I'll be in and out of the forums. I'll try and get some pics after I get her cleaned up... she's filthy inside and out. NOT my style.

Well Happy Holidays everyone; actually... Merry Christmas!

  9. Yes, I'm pretty sure it's a relay, due to tapping on the box stops the fans from running when they continue to run with the key removed.

I could fix it, but he made it seem as if he might have a different relay box he uses now all together. That's why I'm holding out.

And chevyman5, no, don't wait on my account. I'm sure Steve will or has seen this and hopefully he will follow through...

  10. Thanks for all the input guys and gals (?). I already have his phone # and I called a while back and got no return calls. I know he has an excellent reputation here and probably on several other sites. That's why I don't understand the lack of communication. I will say I hope all is well with him and his family and I hope to hear from him soon or just get the replacement box from him.

  11. So a while back I got the Torrent efan kit with his harness. The harness is problematic now. Fans stay on and a tap on the relay box usually stops them. I opened up the relay box and snapped pics of the over heated wire insulation, and he said he'd supply me with a new harness box (possibly other than the plastic one I got w/ the kit). I would have to return my old one, I said fine, it's pretty much a paper weight at this point. Well apparently this offended him because I get no responses. THIS IS BUSINESS! Not personal. I don't want my truck to go up into flames due to this failing component he fabricated.

I know he's got an excellent reputation on this and probably many other forums, but I really need him to follow through with what he said he was going to do.

Let the bashing begin if that's what you need to do, but if this leads to my truck being closer to 100%, so be it.

I've gotten plenty of helpful ideas on this forum and I'm sure I'll continue to do so. Take it easy guys and gals and just please try and put yourself in my situation, no matter how differently you may have replied, lol.

  12. Quoted from MrP from another topic...

So short answer - the LQ9 pushrods are cheap, the LQ9 valvesprings are cheap, the LQ9 retainers/locks are cheap; focus your valvetrain improvements in those areas, then increase the shiftpoints in your tune and get RPM to work for you.

I've got a problem and it might be valves floating, here's what's going on... it only does it from around 5000 rpm on until shift change to 3rd (right around 80 mph). It does not do it from 1st to 2nd.

#1 cyl, multiple misfires (yes it's very noticable, both audibly and seat of pants). Swapped B1S1 and B2S1 and still #1. I did a back pressure check and the cats are fine, new TR6's @ .035, new wires, swapped #1 and 3 plug and wire, still misfire on #1. Swapped in a new coil... no change. As a last resort I changed the valve springs on #1 today and still misfiring. I haven't done a misfire count yet, but it's either still #1 or another cylinder is doing it now (my $ is on #1 tho).

Ok, the springs on my heads have a yellow line on them and the springs I got today to replace #1's have a pink stripe part # 12589774.

I guess what I'm asking is should I just replace all the springs with that part # (or should I use different ones) and get hardened pushrods (and does anyone know the part # for them). I have the stock cam and a Powerdyne at 7 lbs boost.

I'm running out of ideas here and need help, anyone feel free to chime in.

  13. Alot of people will use something like Dynamat or Be Quiet in their trucks. But I don' think putting a sheet under the subs will make a noticeable difference. I don't have anything in mine and it sound fine.

Your saying you want it to sound better, but you have to be alittle more descriptive. Bass sound is non-directional, the only thing that matters with bass is distance.

"777" Dynamat is pretty much for quieting vibrations, right? I don't have any vibrations. I just wasn't sure if anything I could put under where the actual speakers are (and above/on top of the carpet) would help sound quality. It sounds great... I was just curious and I know there are people that know way more than me.

Paul, This is by far the best system I've ever had in any vehicle I've owned. And no doubt, some of you have stuff to put mine to shame. You stating that bass sound is non-directional helps a lot, but the distance to the floor beneath the subs is like 3-4", so would giving the sound waves something to 'bounce or reflect' off of help distribute the bass any better. It seems that plain and simply put... no. If this makes no sense, sorry, just running out of stuff to do to her, and it'd be cheap to do too:chevy: .

    Thanks guys!
