  1. Tried doing this myself but hit a bump in the road and need help from the pros. I got all the way to having the trans. pan all the way off, but the shifter cable bracket was apparently too much in the way to maneuver the pan out for cleaning. I got the right torx bit and tried to un-bolt the bracket, but my ratchet was too long...couldn't unscrew the bolts and therefore had to put everything back in w/o replacing the filter or gasket. Is there a special tool to get that bracket out of the way? It's the black aluminum one that is C shaped, allowing the shifter cable to slide in and out of the open slot (when disconnected at the ball joint obviously). Thanks so much for any help guys
  2. yea dude it's annoying....good thing that bose system can drown it out, haha thanks for the input
  3. There's a consistent, timed clicking sound coming from the steering column/dashboard....sounds to me like the hour meter or odometer mechanism trying to rotate but possibly stuck....don't know that there is such a thing but that's just what it sounds like. if you dropped a BB in an empty box of tic-tacs every 1.4 seconds, that's about what it sounds like and it's become more and more common. started just after running the truck for about twenty or more minutes, no starts at the beginning of any trip. any help on what it is and how to fix it would be much appreciated! PS: my friend with a toyota tundra says he has the same sound, same problem
  4. As of now I have to work 10-6 on Saturday but hopefully I can work something out and try to make it there...
  5. Saw a black SSS pulling out of the apartment complex across the street from me on Voss road between San Felipe and Westheimer road. Also saw a Red SSS in the parking lot where I work at the Center at Post Oak. Any one on here?
  6. I've been putting Shell V-Power in there, being in a city there's still ethanol and crap in the gas, so I put a gas treatment and octane booster in there and it seems to help. I'll see about cleaning up the MAF and throttle body and see if that fixes it; if not I'll get the tuning checked. Thanks for all the help
  7. Hey guys, My SS that I recently purchased has an upgraded PCM, I believe custom-flashed by my friend I brought it from, and when I'm idling at a red light or something the RPM needle drops a couple units then goes back up to normal idling RPM's. I called him and asked if that's normal and he said that's the PCM tuning, but my question is what is the purpose of the semi-periodic drop in RPM's? It seems to stop after the truck's been running for a while so I'm just wondering if it's part of the engine warming-up or if it's a non-PCM issue... Any help is appreciated, thanks guys
  8. I live just a few miles west of the Galleria area near the corner of Westheimer and Voss Road. My younger brother and sister are both sophomores at USC right now too
  9. Welcome fellow Gamecock, I graduated from USC in December and now work in Houston, TX. Definitely recommend the SS, I've been very happy with mine so far. Good luck finding the one for you and GO COCKS!
  10. I'm in houston but went that direction a few days earlier than that.
  11. Thank you for the warm welcome! I'll grab one of these Chilton's ASAP and begin my journey. I did notice the "How To" forum, that's very handy; I might have to tackle the steering column 'clunk' soon. The friend I bought it from has also been my mechanic for years and he warned me about the steering column feeling clunky so that my have to be my first project. From reading that 'how to' topic it'll be a good challenge Thanks again everyone!
  12. Hi everyone, I just purchased a 2003 Silverado SS from a friend who needed to sell it. This is my second vehicle I've owned, the FIRST one I actually enjoy, haha Anyway, there seems to be a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm about this forum and I am looking forward to learning more and more about these trucks so I can take good care of mine. A question to someone who didn't grow up around cars but has learned how to work on more than the typical oil change, is there a book or anything I can buy to learn how to do above average car maintenance? Eventually I'd like to be able to fix just about every problem I could encounter, but starting from the bottom, it's going to take a long time. If you have any recommendations on speeding up the process I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you all and howdy from Houston! -Ben (PS: yes my user name was chosen to symbolize my beginner status, haha)
