  1. Congats had 3 myself. The girls dont tear up the cars like the boys do. Had 1 girl no car trouble. Two boys alot of sleepless nights. Midnite calls and a lot of broke cars. It all starts after 16. The first 15 years arent as bad as the next years.
  2. Thanks guys. I was confused as I have never taken it off , so I didnt know which way to turn. They say it will burn more fuel with the 160 but will help with the power.
  3. I am confused on the 160 and seached the sites and I found two diff part numbers for the 160 thermostat. My truck is a 5.3 2004 and I dont know if I need the sle100223(which looks like the housing plus themostat) or just the thermostat 100228(which is just only the themostat and no housing unit). Summit said the 2003 were different ? I know you guys have talked about this before but I just dont know which part number to use. Do I need to buy a whole housing unit ?

  5. Retired from AA after 37yrs. Was a systems analyst. Worked as a delivery driver 3yrs for a lighting company and now work for Avis rent a car. I may be the oldest guy on the site. Born 1942.
  6. Flow sound on Ebay has a 6'' race muffler . Has one chamber. With cats on, not too bad. Cats off, wear ear plugs and your neighbors calling the law. Its a pop off of a flow master but only 1/4 of the price and if you dont like it sell it on craigs list. You may lose only your shiipping cost plus the install cost.
  7. After installing my supercharger 2nd gear would not hold , it slipped big time. I had to install a shift kit and corvette servo. After 4 years I broke the tranny. Mostly my fault, I hit a slight dip in the road as it was going into second and it was a washboard road after the dip. I broke the main output shaft into. I drive a little more careful now. Mr P is right on. I heard from a GM mech that the servo's on the trucks are smaller than those on the camero and vets. Something about they wanted a softer shift on the trucks. I hope I got this right.
  8. I too love this site. I have had help on quite a few things here. I know what you mean by all the name calling. I think you hit the nail on the head. Some folks know alot more than others and thats why I am here. One one site I was nade fun for buying sylvannia bulbs . I dont care if they burn out every year . I like the look. Thats why they make Chevy trucks and the other brands. I wish not to affend anyone just make friends a learn.
  9. Look at flo pro mufflers. Found them on performance exhaust site. Have no experience with them but I have been doing the muffler thing myself. I could not find a dealer so I emailed them and about 4 days later I got a reply. Seems not to many dealers in Oklahoma.
  10. Couldnt agree more with the fireman. Had six diff muffs and when u add or delete something up stream it changes the whole picture. A fairly loud muffler may sound great with cats but if u delete them omg do they get loud. U may lose some low end but I am supercharged so I really dont know if I did or didnt . It still pulls hard enough for me. The trucks came with too small of a servo on the tranny. Change to a corvette or a bigger servo. When I added the super 2nd gear didnt want to hook up without slipping. New corvette servo and shift kit solved the problem. Taking off the cats will require someone to tweak the computer where your check eng light will not come on and will not dump extra fuel to scrub the cats(this eliminates the gas smell that u get sometimes after cats off)
  11. I have had 6 mufflers on my truck and I loved the sound of the flowmaster but I had the 40 series and have headers and cats at the time. The flowmaster 40 series have a drone that drives me nuts. Took off the cats had a flow sound race muffler and a two chambered flow sound. These are pop off's of a flowmaster. With the cats off it was way too loud and racked off like glass packs when you were at 1/2 throttle and pedal to the metal. The drone gave me a headache. Found a thunderbolt on the web 18inch body stainless steel which is a pop off of the magnaflow. They make one even longer(wish I got that one). Very deep sound , it got louder after a week. Has a drone but I can live with it. It has a short rpm range with the drone. Highway 60 and above just deep sound. Wot , well with headers and supercharged, You can hear me far away. Not raspy , I really like it. Flowmaster have a very good sound. I know some guys like it but on a trip the drone is a killer.
  12. I have read on another site that a guy called it satans blood . This was on bobistheoilguy site. The next reply was another guy talking about it eating intake gaskets and then another guy has his flushed every 50k and now at 150k no problems. Talked to my Chevy mech and he said that guys that do not check their coolant level and over heat the engine are the ones that have the most problem with dex cool. I had mine flushed at 50k and replaced. I am at 75k and it is still clean and clear. Have not changed the coolant in the supercharger yet. It is at 50k as I waited until the engine broke in before adding the magna charger.
  13. A friend of mine just wont let it go. He keeps asking me about a sway bar for the back of a truck. Says he read somewhere a suburban will fit. I dont know what years to what truck. Also what good would a rear sway bar do ? Does anyone have any info on this mod ?
  14. After 60 very low noise inside. Outside with hard accleration gets loud but not raspy. I do have a drone but not a headache type. It is not that bad. It has a limited rpm range before 60 and goes almost completely away. I hope that it doesnt get louder.
  15. My Supercharger came with a superchips pgmr. We changed shift points and tire size. Since then I removed the cats I had a local guy tweak the computer and turn off the sensors. Also he stated my shift points were way high and making the tranny run hotter than normal so I said change them back to stock chevy shifting points and he did, My question is I am wondering if I ever try to use my superchips pgmr and it doesnt have anything in it to turn off the cats and we did change shift points did I mess up that pgmr and is going to say whoa this is the setting I set it at ? What I am trying to say is that some changes were made not using the superchips pgmr and I wonder if this hosed it up
  16. Just found your note. Sorry for the delay. If you have followed any of my post I have gone in search of the muffler sound I wanted. I had a turbo,flowmaster 40 and a flow sound 1 chambered muff . the race 1 chambered muff with cats on was ok but still I wanted louder. After cats omg it was deafing and had the glasspack rack a heavy throttle.In town I loved it and idle omg. The killer was the cabine drone. I ordered a new muff off EBAY and it was called thunderbolt. SS and the body 18" in length(knock off of magnaflow). As to date a deep idle sound quieter in town , has good tone on hard acceleration and very light drone in cab and the rpm range is very short where the drone appears. Loud doesnt bother me, maybe the cops, its the drone and the other muff was a killer. I am not running true duals , only one muff and two tails all the way out at 2 1/2. I have silverstar bulbs which last about a year but I love the lights as they are killer bright. I buy about all things off of the net and EBAY. The last muff was only 55.00. The previous muff were a little cheaper. I resale them on craigslist. Dont like bad tires so at about half life I go on the hunt for new tires. I am running 285/60/18 Falcons ST04 and I really like them. Had Toyo Proxes but 800.00(3yrs ago) a little too pricey. With shipping and 60.00 to mount and balance I got about 540.00 in the tires. Sold the Nexen I had for 200.00. They were ok but had slight road noise,not bad but you could hear them. Toyo moved from Japan to somewhere and I heard tire quality is not as good. Falcon are made in Japan. Foreign tires went up around October as the adminastration is trying to save the US tire manufactures. Funny that most of the US tires are made overseas.(company brand is US but some model of tires are still made overseas(. The increase was quite abit. I had no idea after installing supercharger all the other thing that would come into play. Had to add Corvette servo as second gear was slipping and Chevy's posi cant hold the power so I had to replace the posi with Eation's friction disk posi, so far so good. Painted calipers red, changed all shocks to heavy duty monroes. Started new job , this is second day. Retired from American Airlines in 2004. Truck driver for B&B Lighting in Tulsa for 3 1/2 years , worked retail (walmart,lowes) another 1 1/2 . Now I am at AVIS rental cars in Tulsa. No lifting,bending ,stocking or sweeping. Just drive a van around picking up other AVIS drivers and shuffling cars around. Not much pay. When your a senior citizen no one wants to pay you anything. I am not a couch potatoe.
  17. New muffler came in Stainless thunderbolt(looks like magnaflow) its body is 18" in length. Center 3" dia (one in) and two 2 1/2 out. Sweet , very very low drone. It cut out raspy sound. Has a deep rumble, no rackoff and no headache and is not apt to get you a ticket for noise. Not really loud at all.
  18. I ordered a thunderbolt SS muffler that looks like a manaflow and it is longer. I do not have true duals . One 3inch inlet and two 2 1/2 outlets. I dont know if true duals would help as it still has to cross over at some point to the passanger side or drop low to clear crossmember and tank. So I opt not to change that out. I had a kerker 4 in to 1 and back in the old school days that was the way to go on a kaw 900
  19. Ever punch the button on the center console and watch it fly off to the back. If so here is an inexpensive fix. Go to the local hardware store and buy a piano hinge about 1 1/4 wide. Remove pin and measure the width of console. Take out the springs in the original console hinge and remove the pin. Take half of piano hinge and mark cut outs on the metal where the original brackets are. Use new hinge pin from piano hinge and dril into to plastic lid. Using counter sunk screws or pop rivets. To stop lid from going to far back I attached a small linked chain to the inside of the box and to the top inside of lid to limit travel of top of lid. I used a picture holding bracket as it had a small swivel on it to move the chain freely. Hope this helps.

  21. I really appreciate the feedback as even all the muffler shops cannot help me. I heard a gibson with turned downs after the muffler which was longer than a street walkers dream and even though it wasnt loud and no drone I didnt care for the sound. I like the sound I have but the raspy is a bad deal and the drone is a killer headache. If I go high flow cats and re-tweak the computer I am looking at 500 plus dollars. Darn the luck.
  22. Took cats off , I have headers ,supercharged and exhaust is 3inch one inlet and 2 2.5 out all the way to the back. I had a one chambered muffler on at first which just about the loudest thing ever. I am now running a 2 chambered flow sound which looks like a flowmaster. body is 13inches in length. The sound at idle is great and in town driving,lovin it but hard acceleration brings on the glass pack rackoff and at 50 to 70 mph the drone is driving me nuts. Had computer tweaked to handle mods to exhaust so no gas smell and no ck eng lite. Dont know if I have any room for a resonator. Ordered a thunderbolt SS muffler but it is straight thru like a glass pack but it is 9 inches longer than the muffler I am running now. Short of putting on high flow cats and paying to have the computer back to normal does anyone have had or know how to remedy this drone. Outside loud isnt the issue but cab drone is a killer. Dont care for the raspy glass pack rackoff either but can live with that, I think.
  23. Omg I did the same thing. took off cats . Love it at idle and in town driving .Wot sounds like a fiberglass muffler racking off and the drone in the cab from 50 to 70 is mind blowing loud. I have one 40 flow sound, body is 13inches then out with 21/2 pipes all the way out. Ordered a new 20 inch thunderbolt which looks like a magnaflow. I hope it doesnt have the in the cab drone
