Ive been in and out of the hospital and on pain meds so I hope someone can double check on my info I am about to give. The stock muffler is di/do for fact, the question is do you want to do 1 muffler or 2?
The info I need double checked is the di/do size piping on the stock system (I use to know this info off the top of my head but its been a long time). I believe its 3" and 2.5"? Once again I am not sure and this needs double checking.
If you have problems with it being too loud you can add a resonator which I recomended to the owner near me, but he was cocky and confident he wouldnt get pulled over as he was new to this town but the cops cought onto him quick as surrounding PD's know my truck and people were complaing of a loud truck and they know I dont disturb people in my area as I am respectful to driving my truck not late at night waking the neighborhood up.
I love that XR-1 also and think it is a great muffler, Im just not sure I want to add resonators etc when I could just do a Corsa catback (the original owner got fresh tar chunks over the complete stock exhaust on my truck).
What it comes down for me is that I want my exhaust to still look factory, as far as where the tail pipe exits on the right rear side of the truck
With that being said, is it possible to have 2 of the Borla XR-1 mufflers? or 1? Or do I need an entirely different style of muffler that will allow me to have the exhaust exit on the right rear side (like factory)?

I would go Borla, their GMPP. I am not knocking Magnaflow in anyway, but everyone where I live has one so its like every truck has the same exhaust which gets lame. What Borla muff are you looking at? Pro XS? Boomers? Specialty? or XR-1? Some shadeball around here had a XR-1 and on his 2500HD but he was getting pulled over all the time and his condo association made him take it off as it was too loud (and other reasons). My friend had a cat-back on his Jeep and it sounded great, nothing obnoxious but had a nice growl to it, I am not sure of the exact model system or muffler it was though (this was over 10 years ago).
I was looking at the Borla XR-1 mufflers, seems like there are some pretty good reviews with them.
I'm really just not wanting to replace the entire exhaust system from the cat back...was really just wanting to have the stock muffler cut off & have the new aftermarket muffler installed along with the stock tip.
I would love to do the Borla XR-1 mufflers, but I have no idea what to get to make it happen. Not sure if I can just buy 2 of the XR-1 mufflers and walk into an exhaust shop without needing anything else.

Just wanting a nice tone out of the exhaust and don't want to spend hundreds of dollars doing it. An entire catback would probably add some h/p but I'm not looking for any extra h/p. Magnaflow makes just a muffler which is about $155.00, just needs welded in. I might go with that instead of the borla route.

I have it on mine...Wouldnt put any other exhaust on it...A nice deep growl...Always getting compliments on the sound
What type of borla exhaust setup are you running?
-
Pretty new to the Silverado SS world....recently picked up my SS and love it. Still pretty quiet...(has factory exhaust on it). I've tryed to do some searches online and have heard a couple video's of Borla exhaust on the 6.0.
I think I really want Borla on mine....what would be the best way to go? As far as muffler (s)? Really not wanting an entire catback system...not sure really sure what options I have. Any info would be great!

owned!
Already started ordering and installing some parts too.
Installed a Trailblazer SS Air Bag, HID's (8000K), installed my dual gauge pod (will be loading it with dual aeroforace gauges), ordered LED "puddle" lights, billet chevy emblem for the grill, installed an infinity bass link sub too. Just wish it was warm enough so I could clean the carpet real good and give it a good detail. Still want to POR15 the frame and remove a couple door dings (I own a PDR business).
Next up will be exhaust. I really think I just want to have a nice muffler installed and keep the factory exhaust tip. Been thinking about one of the Borla XR-1 mufflers. Any input on those?

Test drove it and looked it over. Super nice truck, everything that has been done is very tastefull and has been done right. Here are a few pictures:

i have an i-simple interface in my 03, works good.
and you might be approved for the loan already, but still like everybody is saying dont overpay just cause you like it and are there and close(even for simple mods, like mentioned mods dont add actual value to a vehicle).. If you have 17k in a truck thats worth 15k now, imagine how much more you will be out when you decide to sell it in a couple years after they continue to depreciate, and they will..
But if your just dying to get one and plan on keeping it for a very long time, i guess it really wouldnt matter, but that goes with any vehicle...lol
also going in debt for a 10yr old truck when your debt free in these times doesnt sound like the greatest idea, but thats just my opinion, id be buying something a little newer like a denali which are just as fast and nicer..
I understand what your saying.
This truck will be used primarily for business. I'm only taking out a $10,000 loan, so my payment is only $185 a month. I can put $7 grand down on it. So really....the loan won't be to awful bad.

im selling my ss, lets make a deal ... ? http://www.silverado...harged-and-n20/
Looks unreal man! If I didnt have my Blown Camaro SS I'd consider your SS! I'm just wanting a nice, used, lower mile, Silverado SS I can use for work.....but still take really good care of it and do a couple "subtle" mods. Yours might be a little to much for a work truck!! GLWS though!
So, I'm sure there is harness so I can add an external hookup for an ipod/iphone?
-
going to look at the SS Saturday. I'll post some pictures! Does the BOSE system have an ipod/iphone port on it? (probably not being an 03)
-
looks like the loan went through, it's a go if I want it.......still not 100% sure I want to go this route! This will be my first car payment in along time.....I own everything else including my house! I keep starring as the SS though.....and man it looks niice!
-
Does the SS require 93 octane too? Do alot of you guys drive yours as daily drivers?
-
Honest question.......what's the biggest difference, (as far as driving) the SS versus the standard 1500 silverado? Just want to make sure I'm making the best choice for myself, like I said, I've always loved the looks of the SS......especially the SS I'm looking at buying.....
-
Definently want black, Wanting to spend whatever the truck is worth. I don't mind paying a little more for some mods....but not paying anything outrageous for some simple bolt on's.
-
Thanks for the responses! I've only driven the 2010 SS two times since we installed the blower....can't wait for spring! I barely even drive my 91....it sits in the garage most of the time!
Anyhow, if I can get the Silverado SS for an even $17,000......you guys think that's a pretty descent deal considering the mods and how well maintained it's been kept?
-
Well, sounds like the least he'll take is $17,500.....not sure if I'll go for it or not. If I can get it for an even $17,000.....I might. We'll see.
Anyhow, here are some pictures of my Magnacharged LS3 6 Speed SS:
(new acquired ZL1 wheels)
(running about 7-8 lbs for now)
And my 91 Z with airride and lots of other goodies:

Any idea what the problem could be with the heater in the drivers seat? He said it'll stay on for about 30 seconds, then shut off...
-
I paid 18 even but mine was an 04 with only 53k miles with a lot of upgrades(magnacharger, dynatech LTs, and full catback exhaust) and that was at a dealer
Also that was over a year ago (Aug 2011)
how do you like your Maggie? How many lbs. of boost are you running?
-
Thanks for all of the info guys! Really hope I can get this truck, but I don't want him to think I'm trying to lowball him or anything, just want to give him what it's worth plus some extra for the modifications. I sent him an email asking him what he'll take and this was his response:
"I can be a little flexible on the price but I think it would be best if you had a chance to look at it first before we negotiate to much about the price though. That way you can get a better idea of what you think it is worth. If you want to look at it I could meet you somewhere a little closer to you if that is easier"
So, we'll see......
BTW, I'll get some pictures of my magnacharged Camaro SS up soon!
-
Curious what the extra's would cost? Springs, Intake, and Tune....? Let's say the truck books for the $15,250.....there is noway that the extra add up to an extra $3000+. Interior looks super clean which is a plus! Love the stance
-
Hope to check it out possibily this weekend. If everything checks out, what do you guys think a descent offer would be? $17,000?
The only thing he said that was wrong with it is that the drivers seat heater turns on....then turns off....
-
Just as a heads up I did run the book on it and it showing high book on nada is only 15,250 but that is definitely a nice truck so maybe its worth a bit more.
Fairy bad on gas I get about 13 in the city if driving normally and I've gotten up to 18 on a long highway trip. The city mileage can really go down if you idle it a lot or drive them hard. A couple common things to looks for are leaking oil cooler lines, transmission problems, front differential noise, gauge cluster stepper motors (was a recall but since expired), and I'm sure there's more but those are some common problems that have been associated with these trucks.
Do you drive your's daily? Have you had any of the problems you listed? Thanks for the info!!
-
That looks like a super nice truck one of the cleanest ones I've seen for sale for awhile. Maybe offer a bit less but otherwise I would assume that is a pretty fair price for it due to the lower mileage and overall condition.
Thanks for the heads up, figured he wasn't to far off with the price considering it to be so clean/mileage/modifications. Are these trucks pretty bad on gas as well? Any common things that go out or quit working?
-
I've always loved the looks of the Silverado SS's, especially in black. Been thinking about buying one. I've found one on craigslist that looks super nice. What you do you think of this.....as far as price/mileage/modifications? Any info is appreciated! Thanks!
