Headers came in, passenger side collector was dinged....took it to my muffler guy and got him to put the flare on it and get it to look better

Laid it all out...only issue i see is the O2 bung on passenger side collector is too close to the y pipe....its gonna make band clamping an issue

But they look good, flanges are about 1/2" thick, maybe a hair less. And gaskets came in nice and straight, no damage.

  2. Well i figured to use an adhesion promoter, just didnt know how the valspar would hold up under the hood. I am a huge fan of valspar quality, just unsure of its ability to hold up to heat...and what clear should i use? Is there a good brand of clear y'all would recommend? I plan on wet-sanding it and compounding them like i did my tails because it makes all the difference. And how are you doing Dan? Hope everything is going better for ya man!

  3. Yea, i have used Valspar paints with great results on wood, never used them on plastics and was leery of doing so because i wasn't sure if the clear would hold up to under hood temps without cracking or turning colors...figured i would do the fuse box, and rad cover. I have the Vortec max covers so i guess just the max in red....i love body matching, but I am sure everyone would agree that birch isn't exactly a sexy color, and not sure if it would be that great under the hood....but after cleaning the engine bay i realized it still needed some flair. The engine covers came out really good, but all the color flaked off the vortec max logo on them and that is what is making me want to paint them.. I would like to paint the reservoirs too but have never removed a master cylinder reservoir before. Figure the rad overflow would be easy to pull though. May look for some plain covers for them and paint those instead.

  4. Alright so I have tinted my taillights and they came out really good, plus some furniture for my boys, so my rattle can hand has gotten pretty good. I want to paint my engine covers, for those that have done this, any tips or hints. I have waxed and tire shined them, so i know i will have to wag and grease them, but should i sand them before painting? Also i cant for the life of think of me what color to do them. Truck is silver birch, so a loud color probably wouldn't go with it. Maybe gloss black would be the best, but i do have the max logos on the side and a painted red bowtie to match so red may work...i dont know just tossing around some ideas.... What paint did you use? Duplicolor? Yes, i know i could take it to a paint shop, but I would rather do it. Trust me, when i go into something and think I probably cant do it, i hand it over to those who can, this is not one of those things.

  5. I just dont get why they all are 2 1/2"....if they would have been 3" i prolly would have considered them just because they probably look good under the hood... But i chose function over form...1 3/4 but that is fine, my truck is pretty much stock and am glad i didnt shift my peaks higher in the band

  6. Headers and intermediate pipe should be delivered tommorrow, i go back on days friday through sunday, then nights tues through thursday, shooting for next saturday...gonna drive her around for a while next thursday, get her hot then pb blast her. Gonna spray it prolly three times friday, then go to town on saturday.

  7. Just bought a Borla XR-1, cant wait to put it in...listened to some clips on youtube and it is a demon when you stomp on the go pedal...i have my slomaster super 40 dumped right over the axle next to the spare and it sounds perfect that way, no drone.

  8. Check out my thread on here....look under new content.....fabbing my own catback...if you stick with a y pipe, you are gonna have to get an intermediate pipe, best bet is to call walker and ask for dynomax part number for 3" intermediate pipe to fit your truck...then go si/so....it fit my budget..only thing is the dynomax pipe is aluminized, so dont know how that handles your climate. Where i live the only snow i see is on a hallmark card, and he only salt i see is 35 minutes south in the gulf of mexico.

May not look it, but spent a few hours cleaning in preparation for the exhaust install, good news i can touch anything under the hood and not get filthy, bad news, found out i am yet another victim of the notorious broken drivers side rear manifold bolt. Noticed it while cleaning and quickly let out a string of obscenities in the driveway which made a lady walking her dog freak out any my wife came running outside to check on me lol.

  10. Only thing is that i think there are some mild fitment issues on 4wd, assuming it is the same layout as AWD, but read some forums where people "massaged" them and they worked, i decided to ditch the dual set up on my VMax and just run single 3".

  12. I ordered calspeed headers last week, supposed to arrive on Thursday. Stainless, 1&3/4" primaries, 3" y stainless mandrel bent y pipe, paid an extra 50 to get GM MLS gaskets and stainless band clamps instead of u bolt clamps. 440.00$ shipped to my door.
