  1. Recently placed my order for a Whipple 2.3l 140ax from Stillen Performance and I can't wait for it to get here! I have been wanting to install a supercharger since I bought my truck and have been saving since I bought it to do the same. I attempted to do my homework on choosing a supercharger setup for my SSS and decided on Whipple. Seems like it all comes down to what you want to spend on a setup and what brand/type of supercharger your prefer for your build.

I am curious as to how much boost my stock LQ9 will SAFELY take. The 140ax comes with a 3.625in pulley that is rated for 6-8lbs of boost. I have a high-flow exhaust (long tube headers, no cats, Billy Boat exhaust) so I know that will factor into losing 1-2lbs of boost off the top. From those who have supercharged the stock LQ9 before me, what is my max target boost before I run into driveability issues? Thanks in advance as I am looking to add a smaller pulley at the time of install since I am tuning via BlackBear Autocal.

  2. I was driving on my way in for an overtime graveyard shift tonight and I noticed that my tachometer was misbehaving. It would read an increase in RPM as normal, but would not fall when engine RPM fell. Needless to say now my Tach is pinned passed 6K. Has anyone seen this before? Is it as simple as disassembling the dash and manually pushing the needle back down to 0? If I reset it manually I am afraid it will just pin out again. Anyone know what would cause this and how to fix it permanently?e63eb18e69e9c9e16a2e2a252ff93a28.jpg

  3. ehhhh, they might seem like they support it OK but I think if you investigate how those struts are designed they are not meant to be load-bearing in that way.

Would suck to crater your gate because they decide to let go. And you really couldn't blame 'em if they did.

The bed of my truck is covered in carpet and a Speedsturr. I'm not loading skids of 2000 lb cargo with a forklift. I'm sure for the things I load in the 'trunk' of my truck it will be fine.

  4. Not sure if the plugs were the same on the higher amp version. From what I can find for that year it needs to be a four pin wide plug with rounded ends..... Maybe ask place you bought from if the higher amp interchanges.....?

You have to make sure the alternator you are upgrading to has the same number of pigtail connecting pins as your old alternator. The bolt pattern should be the same. i.e. I purchased a high amp alternator for my 97 K1500 and swapped it right in my 2004 SSS because the wiring harness was the same. Send your alternator back and purchase one with the same pin/pigtail setup on the wiring harness for your truck.

  5. That's the trouble about learning about new things. I see it. I like it. I want one. I buy it. I spend money. I work overtime and the vicious circle starts all over again. lol

  6. The SSS equipped standard with the LQ9 6.0 did not have a 'Y' pipe. The mid pipes between the exhaust manifold and the 'muffler and pipe' exhaust are two separate pipes with integrated catalytic converters. Other GM trucks with smaller displacement engines (5.7 etc.) of the same generation are equipped with a 'Y' pipe where the exhaust from both exhaust manifolds merges together into one pipe and then bolts to the exhaust.

You could use a 'Y' pipe from a smaller displacement truck, but it would choke the exhaust flow from the LQ9. You would have to also switch out the rest of the exhaust system to match the single 3" pipe from the 'Y' pipe. Can you do it? Yes. Will you have to also then replace the rest of the exhaust system? Yes. Converting from the standard LQ9 6.0 setup to the smaller displacement setup is not a good idea in my opinion.
