  1. GM gave them a design award for their spindles, that's it. They did not rate any of McGaughys kits, if they did, it would have been a different story. Their spindles are a decent product, but I have not seen anything else come out of that company that I would consider worthy, or trustworthy. I tried their 3" drop springs (coils) in my Avalanche, what a mistake that was. Had them in my truck for about a week before I had to remove them. Same spring rate as stock, just 3" lower. Perfect recipe for bottoming out and crappy handling. Any other company will increase the spring rate when creating a drop spring to compensate for the decrease in travel and overall spring; McGaughys did not. They just chopped off 2.5 coils. Brilliant! (not) And they will never say that installing one of their drop kits changes any angles. Which is bullshit, because ANY TIME YOU INSTALL A LIFT OR DROP YOU CHANGE THE ANGLES. Sometimes the change is small enough such that you don't have to deal with it, but at minimum you should always check the angles after a lift or drop. The fact they will not cop to this fact tells me they have no integrity as a company, and as a result are not worthy of my respect. I agree with Mr. P, as a company McGaughys should be shied away from. As long as you know the quality of exactly what you're getting (i.e. spindles), then make the decision cautiously, but I'd stay away from their other stuff, and don't trust anything they tell you about suspension, because their M.O. is to sell product only, not to ensure you are safe or satisfied. In this respect they are extremely irresponsible.
  2. it really only flashes to about 2600. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> With a Radix and a 2.8" pulley? Wow, I thought it would have flashed to at least 3000 or 3100.
  3. I know that Chuck at this place: FLT will build you a transmission and dare you to break it (he guarantees them). I think there are a couple of guys here with his transmission, hopefully they will chime in and let you know their experience.
  4. You wouldn't happen to have an interest in the sale of this vehicle, would you? Are you a dealer or a salesman? I noticed you over on the TrailblazerSS site saying the same thing, that there is a TBSS and "I pass it every day!"
  5. I've been averaging 12.5 mpg, but with the corresponding smile on my face.
  6. Women cops need lovin' too....I say go for it. All the talk about guns reminds me about that scene in Police Academy where the guy and gal cops are getting undressed and they have to take all of their guns off first....
  7. I don't know dude, you don't get smogged until 5 years after your first registration....why don't you just pull the stock long block and stick in the garage for (1) when you sell the truck, or (2) smog comes up, whichever comes first. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Been there, done that; I and a bunch of friends in CA kept a beater 305-SBC smog mule for just that purpose. That poor little engine was the villiage bicycle, we had it in a couple trucks, several f-bodies, and an A-body. It was a pita to take basically an entire week every year for annual CA inspection (to swap in the motor, get it smogged, and swap back out) but we did it! Rule was that whoever used it changed the oil (not a problem as almost everyone needed a different oil pan) and you took your car to the valley to get it inspected. Then our plan hit a snag when one of the buddies borrowed the 305 for his Camaro all winter; we finally figured out that he had actually blown the top-end of his 396 and could not afford to fix or replace it with a motor of his own, and was using the small chevy in his car to get to/from work... that caused some hard feelings in the group Mr. P. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Village bicycle....that's funny....back when CA had smog every year I take it. Not so anymore. Buy a new vehicle and it's 5 years before you need a smog, and every other year after that. Re: Futral....when I called him for a cam, he gave me a rec, then I called Cam Motion directly for their rec, and got the exact same specs. I thought that was mighty interesting.

  9. Nice, a 4.8L 4-banger.
  10. Actually, I wouldn't be so sure he couldn't pass smog with the right cam and a good tune. You'd have to stay on the small side, perhaps 218/222 or 220/224 on a 116, but with a baby cam like that you could run the stock converter and have lots of torque right off idle. Your powerband would be 1500-6000 or so. The tune will be key. You'd be one of the first to try and get a 408 to pass smog that I know of. Maybe you should post this at LS1Tech as well and get their input. There is a significant CA contingent over there. What kind of F/I are you thinking about? Have you thought about a forged 370 instead of a 408? That would be easier to get past the smog cops.
  11. I had stock exhaust manifolds in my Radixed Avalanche and it did okay. Personally, I think you need a converter.
  12. thanks for the reply, but does tire rack and discount tire carry intro wheels or american eagle wheels in store? they don't list them on their site, so do you have to call and inquire? that's why it be good to know some shops in the bay area that are reputable so that i could through them instead. thanks -ejay <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Discount Tire is reputable, and they can get pretty much any rim you want. Just find the closest one near you. If you shop for price they will match or beat the lowest you can find. Discount Tire gets all of my business (and has for quite a while).
  13. Just go to Tire Rack and find the ones you want, and the price you want. Then go into any Discount Tire store with your printout and they will give you the same deal or better.
  14. I agree, the tongue looks low. I would explore those hitches that adjust upward.
  15. I think all of our trannies already have a temp sensor ready to be tapped.
  16. And you just copied me, except you went for the slower color. Kids!
  17. What's interesting about this Suburban is they sell them in Mexico just like that - not with the Radix, obviously, but with the NBS Chevy front end like this one. I saw one in my hood late last year, with Mexico plates.
  18. Very nice! Is it 2WD or 4WD? Sweet!
  19. I saw that stuff all the time where I grew up in Michigan....I never saw so many things bolted to Blazer and Bronco chassis....'57 BelAires, Chevelles, etc. The best ones were the vehicles that had 10"-12" diameter oak tree trunks bolted on as bumpers....looked kinda intimidating in your rear-vew coming up on you. But those vehicles were actually functional, since we got 12"-24" of snow in 24 hours on a regular basis.
  20. If it comes from one of us it won't be original...think on it and you will figure something out that's good.
  21. I said everything I wanted to say in the old thread, and the facts still stand. Except, of course, for the part where Ben went in and edited my second to last post but did not take 'credit' for it.
