  1. I have an 11 SD. The 6.2L is a beast. However, the combination of TM, the 6 speed tranny, and the 3.42 gear setup leaves a lot to be desired. It is very obvious that SD, in it's stock config, is tamed down quite a bit. IMO, it wouldn't take much work to get it there...just a bit of time and $$$.

  2. I can honestly say that I regret selling my SSS to @JasonHensley22 almost every day. I replaced it with a Sierra Denali to more comfortably support the family needs. There is just no comparison. The SSS embodied a mood, a style, a feeling...none of which can be replaced. Like kc said, the Denali has a lot of creature comforts and is a really nice ride. It just does not invoke the same desire to drive it as the SSS did. I looked forward to getting in a driving to/from work, around town, and on the highway. Far and away, it was my favorite vehicle ever owned. The SD is just another truck... If I had to do it over again, I would not sell it.

FWIW xlman, keep it. Your thoughts already indicate that you'll be in the same boat as me and will regret the decision to sell it (especially if you sell it local and the guy joins SilveradoSS.com and parades your old ride around for you to see all the time. j/k Jason, I love that you are as enthusiastic about the truck as I was).

  3. It's not unhealthy at all! I know what you mean, I have only had mine for a few months but have completely fallen for it, shes my baby. I am going home for 3 weeks later this year and I know i'm going to miss it a ton. I don't know what i'm gonna do if I have to deploy and be without it (actually i'm just gonna save all my money and spend it on her!)

I have a garage you can leave it in you're gone...:jester:

  4. Depending on the NAV head unit, there are two of them, there should be a separate slot for the NAV DVD. The whole front of the NAV face flips open to expose the NAV slot. You likely have the same unit that's in my wife's Tahoe, so chances are this is the case. Like you said, the system is already pre-wired for the backup camera. If you want to keep the factory NAV, you'll have to do your homework. One of the 2 NAV units does not support the vid input, the other does. So, you'll have to pull your codes and part numbers to make sure (if you want to stay with the stock stuff).

Nice truck! I am slowly falling in love with my '11 SD (still not the SS). I absolutely hate the factory tune w/ the 6 speed and can't stand the 3.42 setup. The truck screams for a TVS1900/2300. Other than that... :dbanana:

  5. Our assembly will find some way to intervene on behalf of the people of Anchorage. The Mayor tried this once before and our Liberal Heroes stepped in to save our citizens from all the ugly smog producing villains.

I hope they end this program too. Anchorage has not violated Federal Smog restrictions in 20+ years. What this city really needs is some kind of vehicle safety inspection program. I'm not sure about you, but some of the cars/trucks on Anchorage roads scare the HE77 out of me! :ughdance:

  6. I would place a bet that the kid from FAI is the same kid. He told me he had another in his sights.

As far as the alignment, I just had one done less than 7K miles before selling it to you. What you'll find is that the alignment is within stock specifications. I have found that the slight leftward swerve you are referring to is mainly due to the road ruts as it drives pretty damn straight on newly paved road.

If you wanted to change the configuration of the lowering in the front, you would have to go with spindles, readjust the torsion bars (which would still be lower than stock), possibly replace the keys with lowering keys, and then have an alignment done. You may even consider a set of belltech Nitro 2 drop shocks (which was my next upgrade had you not bought it from me).

  7. Been here since 10 days after buying the SS back in 2004. The wealth of knowledge from some of the long timers on this site is incredible...AND, they are always willing to lend their assistance. Something I have found that sets this set apart from any vehicle forum I've ever been a part of.

I'm glad you swapped the grilles back to normal...something I had been wanting to do for a long time. Are you putting the "Shopman SS bowtie" back in or are you sticking with the golden oldie? The airbox looks nice too.

As far as the lowering goes, I used belltech shackles on the rear for nearly 3" and adjusted the torsion bars in the front for a little over 1.5" to level out the rake (typically referred to as a 2/3 drop).

I'm glad to see you're having fun with it! As much as I like the SD, it's not the SS. I still have the "should have never sold the SS" days quite frequently.

  8. Nice to see you on the site, Jason. Though, I am not sure I can handle seeing my baby with another guy! I was doing fine with this whole thing...now you show up parading my beautiful baby around. Treat her right or I may just have to hunt you down!

Glad to see you are enjoying the SS. Be careful with the tint though...after my 3rd ticket @ $150, I removed the 20% I had on her.

  9. I like the color. I seriously considered a RAM sport when I sold the SS and bought the Denali (I still feel dirty about it too). I was set to buy one when the GMC dealership made it worth my while to stay GM.

Nice looking truck, but it's still a Dodge.

  10. mine has about 1300 miles on it now and it feels like the computer has not learned the adaptive pressures. the 1-2 shift wavers badly at any throttle. what type of mileage are you seeing? I agree with it being slow from 0-40 but the double downshift at wot on the highway makes it a monster. im sure you know (but in case you dont) if you hold the TC button for about 5 seconds it turns off both the TC and stabilitrak

I'm running mid-grade (89 octane in AK) and getting 14's around town and 18-19mpg on the highway. Not great, but better than the consistent 9-10mpg I was getting in the SS.
