  1. I'm looking at buying another SS this weekend with 200k miles on it, its a one owner with service records and it seems to have been taken really good care of. I'm getting a steal on it and am going to start saving pennies as soon as I take delivery in anticipation of the tranny and engine needing replaced. A GM performance LQ9 and 4L85 tranny are about $7k not including installation. I think when the time comes i'll just have the tranny rebuilt and bulletproofed. AS for the engine, strokin it to a 427 would be fun...

200k huh? Good to know. Only thing I'm worried about is mine going out before that, so I dont wanna wait til it does. A 427 and 85 sound sick, hell even an lq9! Buuuut gotta stay practical haha.

Ten, Cali is good, love the weather better than ak that's for sure. How u been?

I'm gonna need like.. A 7 seater haha.. As for gas mileage, I'm planning on getting an r6 for my main vehicle haha. What did u have before? I don't remember

  2. If you guys don't know, I sold my truck a few months back since I moved to Cali. It was my intention to just purchase a more gas efficient car or sports bike in the meantime but now I have a kid on the way so I was looking into getting an 02-07 classic Yukon Denali.

Most of my searching has led me to high mileage ones, 100k-140k range which is more than I would like. I know it would be hard to find something less on something that old down here in the lower 48. I like the style of these better than the newer ones, but want something reliable for the long run. As much as I want to make it faster, I'm looking to be more practical. I know it depends on the condition of the current parts, but generally speaking, would I be better off REPLACING the engine and transmission with something new or low mileage, or just rebuilding it all?

    Things to consider:

    - I will not be looking for extra power/speed, unless of course the cost is the same as getting a stock part

    - I will NOT be doing ANY of the labor. I don't know enough and quite frankly don't want to mess anything up haha

    - I don't really want to piece together a whole setup, rather just make simple and easy purchases so that I don't have to worry about forgetting to buy a certain part

    - Looking for LONG TERM, daily reliability

    Some other questions:

    - On average, what mileage do these things usually need to be replaced or rebuilt?

    - What parts are essential to be examined for replacement/rebuild; what's first to break?

    - Any recommendations for parts purchases besides junkyards/craigslist?

    - Any recommendations for shops to do the work in the South Bay or Sacramento area? (I live in the bay but will be staying in Sac for the summer)

    Thanks!

  3. Sold my truck... Had to pay for school so I took one for the team!! Here's somewhat of a timeline with pix:

It was my dad's truck for 2 years, then i took over payments after.. Its been in the family for over 8 years so it has a lot of sentimental value.

It really sucked handing over the keys to someone and seeing them drive away in it. Tens of thousands of dollars thrown into this truck and now

its gone. Oh well, life goes on.. Doesn't it? haha

  4. Their was a post about a week ago and a link to a spot that a couple of them. Dig deep into the f/s section, you should be able to find it sir.

edit-any new pictures of your roll pan sir?

I think I found the one you're talking about, and if it is its sold now. I don't have any new ones but I do have some of the last time it was in the shop getting a better fitment for the tips..Its on my phone so i'll have to upload it somehow. nothing from far away though so you cant see the entire back. I'll be getting them soon as I'm not in the same state right now but will be back in AK for xmas break

I bought mine new at Alaska Sales and Service just a little bit ago.

I was trying to avoid the dealership, but if it really came down to it i guess id have no choice eh? haha

Hey man haven't seen you on the site in a long time, hows it going? Yeah like Jason said he was somehow able to order/get one at AK Sales so they must be available. Good luck locating one.

Yeah, just been busy with school in cali but i'll be back up mid next month. I'm actually considering selling the truck to help pay for my tuition. I have another semester of out of state tuition rates which is killing me! My dad drives my ss from time to time, same license plate, just without the tinted windshield and sides, and with a quieter muffler as the ol man always got headaches riding with me haha.

if you dont mind me asking what happened to it

Weeeeell lets just say it was dark, I didnt see the huge dip in the specific parking spot I decided to park in, and the cement block in front was a tad bit taller than your average one... Plus it didnt help that my truck is stupidly low in the front hahaha

I might have one i can part with

    whats your zip

    Thanks, PM sent

my brother has one i can check to see if he will let it go, how much are you looking to spend and i will run it by him for you, its painted black, but not good

    PM sent

  5. Fits 99-06 GM 6.0L (Silverado/Sierra.. SS & Denali) I'd assume it would work with the 4.8/5.3L engines, but I'm not POSITIVE.

The supercharger is not complete, but all you'll need is fuel pump (around $125), injectors (price depends on what size but generally 150-300 for a good set), and a tune. I can help you find any of these parts to make this a complete kit if you want.

The Si trim head unit itself is used with 5K miles and has an upgraded impeller to support 775hp and hasnt been installed since. This was all professionally done by Vortech who also thoroughly inspected everything to ensure and guarantee quality and to meet strict requirements and specifications. The entire water cooler assembly is brand new and still in the original packaging (water pump, tank, heat exchanger, etc) which alone costs over $2300. In addition, this set up comes with 2 brand new and sealed Autometer guages (boost/vac and fuel pressure = $300+), 2 pulleys (stock and a smaller 3.3" for extra boost), and a Volant cold air intake box. Comes with all the needed hoses, fittings, etc.

The only reason I'm selling it is because I'm moving to CA to finish up school this summer and need the money for tuition.

I want to get rid of this ASAP and I feel $3500 is fair, but just hit me up and we'll work something out. No trades, and serious inquiries only please.

PM me your offers or with any more questions. I'd love to get rid of this locally (Alaska) but we can arrange for shipping.

Call or text JV with any questions at (907)602-3963

Here are some pix of the parts

  6. A member PM'ed me about my vortech supercharger so I might as well just copy n paste what I said in case any of you might be interested:

    cfresh138, on 16 April 2011 - 10:15 AM, said:

how much are you looking to get for your charger? and is it complete

Sorry for the late reply, I've been super busy with classes and work. The charger is not complete but all you'll need is fuel pump (around $125), injectors (price depends on what size but generally 150-300 for a good set), and a tune (theres a couple guys in town with HPTuners who can do complete custom tunes specifically for YOUR needs instead of the generic superchips tune). I can help you find any of these parts if you want.

The compressor itself is used with under 5,000 miles and has been rebuilt with upgraded impeller to support 775hp. This was all professionally done by Vortech who also thoroughly inspected to ensure and guarantee quality and to meet strict requirements and specifications. The entire water cooler assembly is brand new (water pump, tank, heat exchanger, etc) which alone costs over $2300. In addition, this set up comes with 2 brand new and sealed autometer guages (boost/vac and fuel pressure = $300+), 2 pulleys (stock and smaller for extra boost), and a volant cold air intake box. Comes with all the needed hoses, fittings, etc.

I'm going to put it up on craigslist and 'd like to get $3,600 for the setup. But since you're a member here, I can probably lower it a little. I have a few offers from other young guys in town but I'd rather let it go to some NON-douchebag haha.

Just for reference, the complete supercharger kit alone would run around $6000+ brand new after shipping to AK. With pretty much just the compressor with low mileage and other parts brand new, in addition to the extra parts, this is a steal. The only reason I'm selling it is because i'm moving to CA to finish up school this summer and need the money for tuition. I'm trying to get rid of this ASAP so if you're interested and it's anywhere near your budget, let me know and we can work something out. Um... I believe thats most if not all the info.. Let me know if you need anymore. If you want, you can call or text me at (907)602-3963, my name is JV.

Here are some pix of the parts

So yeah, like I said I'd lower the price for members on here but I'm not trying to give it away for free haha! I just paid $4,128 for my next semester so I could really use the money asap! :)

  7. Bump! Hows the AK break up weather treating your guys SS's out there? Mines needing some new shocks for sure but its doing great otherwise!

-haul@ss saw your truck over by the diamond fred meyars/joanns. That is such a nice truck. pepsicheer.gif

If anyone wants we should see if we can setup a SS meet up when the weather gets better!

Thanks man, someone lightly rear ended me in a parking lot so theres a minor crack in the roll pan and scratch in the tailgate.. Plus my bumper grill is kinda messed up from me hitting a parking block. I'm thinking i probably should have raised the front up a bit for the winter hahaha. But break up season sucks! Cant even keep the truck clean for more than a day!

I have the street performance shocks and love em. Still doesnt ride as smooth as i would like but my truck isnt exactly at the ideal height for ride quality haha

oh and I'll be getting my alignments done at alaska spring. I hear they do good work and are about 89 bucks.

Hows everyone else doing? I'm moving to San Jose, CA after the summer so if anyone wants a nice supercharger for cheap, let me know! Half the parts are brand new and it comes with extras! :D

And im down to meet up, just text me! 907-602-3963

  8. If i recall correctly, the front bumpstops play a part in the suspension in which they are supposed to touch. This is so that they "cushion the bouncing" instead of just stoping it on impact. If that makes any sense haha

Hey KC, did you just remove them completely? Ever bottom out?

  9. WTF?!!! All my windows are tinted and winter gets dark up here in Alaska so i was brainstorming ways to back up easier.. I was thinking of installing additional reverse lights connected to actuators that would drop down behind my roll pan when i put it in reverse. I think HIDs will be a bit easier and lot cheaper haha. So did you just cut the stock connector and solder the power and ground wires to the ballasts' wires?

  10. My auto start from perfectionist broke not even six months later but by then I had already moved to Virginia so now I have to pay to fix it. Closest dealer was in mid-north carolina. No one in ak would even install a viper only computer-star. Bleh lol. Wish I knew u before I moved lol.

How long a go was this? Well if you ever decide to move back up here, you know who to get in touch with haha

  11. well started pulling the motor this weekend and its almost out.

So plans with the motor is up it to a 408 and run my charger on it again and with maybe a 50 or 100 shot with it. with a custom grind cam with.

So with trannys whats the best way of making it handle all this new power?

daym that sucks.. but cool at the same time haha. Who's doing the work bro?

  12. That sucks that your truck got hit, glad to see your still around though! Ya I'm still at UAA, I'm there Mon, Tues, Wed, Thursdays every week with the SS. I sort of worry about someone hitting it by parking to close, but it's no show truck either..... Someone also has a blue ss I see M/W by the RH with black wheels. I just picked up an LQ9 yesterday for the 69' so I'm going to do heads/cam on that or put a S/C on it. peelout.gif

Yeah it does, my truck pretty much got beat up over the summer... Most of my classes are at University Center this semester but I go to the Consortium library a lot through out the week in the SS also. I've seen that blue ss with the black wheels around. That LQ9 setup should be really nice on your 69!

Oh and just a heads up, i know the guys over at SoundWorks, which is a car audio/security shop thats run by the guy who used to do the majority of Perfectionist's custom fabrications. They've hooked up a bunch of my boys with car starters (Viper/Python and Compustar Pro) and custom audio stuff so I'm sure i can get any of you guys good deals if you want. So just let me know!

  13. Yeah i haven't been on here for a while because I'm trying to save money! haha

Plus someone hit my truck on the passenger side of the bed.. but I didnt even notice it for a while. My friend actually told me he saw it a few days before he mentioned anything to me because he thought I already knew about it.. So I'm trying to figure out if i should get that fixed, along with remolding my rollpan and getting my exhaust hangers rewelded.. Or wait til after winter to do all that... But my exhaust is rattling so i might just get on that soon.

By the way, anyone want a polished vortec charger?! i havent installed mine yet because i went to vegas for a week and spent 4gs... haha

Matt, you still go to UAA?

  14. Welcome to the site Mike! - Man there's a lot of mikes here haha

AK04SS, if you're hauling, you probably don't wanna go lower than 2" in the back. If you're looking for a mild budget drop that wont affect the stock ride much, turn the torsion bolts down in front and do 2" shackles in the rear. Shackles range anywhere from 60-100 bucks online. Or if you want, i think a few shops sell them in town for 80-120. If you go this route, I can help you with install as I have done it before. We just need a nice warm garage. You'll kick yourself in the ass if you pay a shop to do it once you realize how easy it is. Unless you're in a rush to get it done i guess...

Matt, I say chrome in the summer, silver in the winter. The road salt will take a toll on the chrome for sure after a while. Do you do the installs on the c10 yourself? I've always wanted a 68-72 C10 to work on!

Aksss, did you buy that SS with the turbo on it already? Because I know there was another sts truck that some dude got into the low 14s with or something not too impressive so he built up the motor n tranny only to sell it later? Not sure if its the same truck but I worked with the owners friend and he was telling me about it. Either way, good luck at the track! I hope to make it and see ya run!

10zin, whats good bro?! Haven't heard from you in a while. How's the truck? Ever get that daym turbo on? And yes, I love AK summers! The scenery and weather makes up for the shitty winters haha

As for the meet, I can't do anything till probably after April because school is really kicking my ass. Plus I hear its supposed to snow next week too so its still gonna be cold as shit! Daym you winter...

Anyone know of any body shops that are good with fiberglass? I was thinking of cleaning up the roll pan cut outs myself but if I can find the right shop I'd rather have them do it haha
