  1. Thanks, good to know. Appreciate the learnin'
  2. hmmmm...odd. I just went to hawks site and looked up parts for an 05 and 06 Silvy SS. Popped up showing fronts and rear HPS pads. Why would AWD or RWD make a difference in brakes? Not being a smart ass, honest Q as I do not know. In any case - Hawks site shows them.
  3. Im running powerslots and hawk hps pads on my 00 Chrysler 300M. Im happy with it, little bit of noise under moderate to hard braking (I think due to the slots on the rotors - kind of a slight "whirring sound") but they're great brakes, stop VERY well when hot, no squeeking, low dust. Havent tried the other pads mentioned above but may very well give those a shot on my rig when its due. Never ran the Hwak stuff before so gave them a try this time.
  4. All of this is covered in the back of your manual - chassis lube, door locks, hinges, hood struts, etc. Then just head over to your local NAPA, Kragen, wherever and snatch em up. Could also visit the stealership but what to use on what is all there in the manual
  5. Thank you. Hand tightened them down again until the rubber bushing was about the same size of the washer and im calling it done. Appreciate you guys clearing it up and getting it out of my head. ODC is now at rest, im going for a ride.
  6. Thank you, Mr. P So tighten down the nut until the rubber washer / bushing is the width of the load washer and im golden regardless of torque applied or how tight the actual nylock nut is (although resistance is proportional to the bushing squish factor). I appreciate the verification very much. I should of done the poly before I installed this last weekend but wanted to get them in there. Plus, with no squishing going on with the poly i'd be unsure how much to tighten down without use of the torque wrench so I may be better off this way. I overthink things and go nowhere when that happens. Appreciate it and enjoy your write ups a great deal. Getting this out of the way then its on to my front bumpstops (following your trim and drill method since my tbars are lowered a bit and stop is just smashed in there) and then hadling the switch to RP in the rear differential and painting the housing.
  7. All, just installed Bilsteins for an 05 SSS on my 05 Sierra (RPO B2E with Z60 suspension) and they were spot on for length and install was cake - BUT - im having a bit of trouble verifying how the front top mounts should be tightened down. I have seen the following - Just tighten the nut until the bushing is the same diameter as the washer Just tighten the nut until the bushing is just a bit bigger than the washer Juts tighten the nut until the washers just make contact with the bushing and dont compress Tighten to stock torque specs (15 ft lbs) - now, theres no way in hell to get a socket over the nut because I have to hold it with vice grips to keep the shaft from spinning as I tighten Bilstein told me if its a 10 mm nut, 25 ft lbs, if its a 12 mm nut, 30 ft pounds.....problem with that is the nut that ships with the shocks is 17 mm, stocker is 15mm (phone call and I didnt have the nut to reference) Right now they are tightened until the bushing compressed to the same diameter as the washer. Sure didnt feel like much pressure and the nut was still fairly easy to spin. I am not sure how much I need to tighten these ef'ers down. I have a habit of tightening the snot out of everything and going to far which is why I am a HUGE fan of torque specs....but cant use the torqure wrench over top of the vicegrips, obviously. I have searched a bunch for this and am unable to find a clear cut answer. How far do I go, in terms of rubber bushing compression? I now they are not supposed to be pancaked or overtightened. Thanks, I know its probably a silly Q but im overly anal about this stuff (OCD anal)
  8. Heck, I though my (1 of 2000) 2004 GMC VHO was RARE!!! I think you have me beat bro...

  9. lol Agreed. Im gonna order up those shocks and then see what I got when they arrive, compare length and all. valving shouldnt matter since its the same suspension but the SSS trucks appear to sit a bit lower stock than mine does. thanks for your help, much appreciated and offers a little peace of mind for me. especially having someone agree with me that its weird build.
  10. Its an 05, built in canada, build date is 02/22/05. Silver Birch Met color but all else is as you describe Apologies for the confusion, I meant that its the same model as the 04 and I found out because of that thread and then saw the B2E and Z60 codes in the glovebox and put it together. Im a lil slow sometimes. Still having a bit of trouble finding shocks even knowing this because I cant see anything for the VHO on bilsteins site and the SSS bilstein Shock #'s are different than the 2wd tbar suspended GMC trucks. I have about 5 calls into bilstein but truth be told they are juuuuust a bit lacking in the support area. Nobody can answer this question which I thought would be fairly simple for a major shock provider and they dont return calls. Guess its like the mother in law - like the cooking but otherwise she sucks.
  11. Like an SSS with a different grill, tails and side molding. I like em and you can get the GMC center caps for them. Seen a few Yukons running those wheels and thought it looked good.
  12. OK, figured this out - B2E option on my truck instead of BV4 (VHO) both have the z60 suspension - identical but for the engine and trans combo. I was unaware of this RPO or what this truck was but should be able to order the exact same shocks from bilstein for the SSS trucks. should apply to both b2e and b4v rigs due to same weight, chassis and springs, etc Guess per my searches here this is the model that everyone originally referred to as a "spring special" in all the original VHO "texas truck" threads in 04 Identical to the VHO except it got the standard 1500 engine / trans
  13. Side by side my truck looks to sit a bit higher than the SS's do, whether 2wd or 4wd. Sat higher out back until I leveled it out but who knows, different shackles stock? Could of been the SS's I have seen were already dropped but i've never had the chance to crawl under one and check it out. I think I am going to have to resort to grabbing the SSS shocks and then once they arrive comparing in length and such to my stockers. Figure they have to be valved the same given that Z60 is Z60 no matter what truck its on and they're the same frame. I havent paid much attention to the ground effects or rockers on the SS trucks or if they're any different, maybe thats the reason the SS trucks appear to sit lower than mine. New to the truck world, been wrapped up in cars all my life and never ran leafs or tbars....simple shock purchase is making me really appreciate good ol coils all around.
  14. Im hoping you guys can help me out. I have an 05 ECSB and although not a VHO appears to have much of the same options with the exception of the 6.0 mill. Tbars up front (Z60 suspension package), 3.73's / G80, Heavy duty trans cooler, GM 20's..... Im trying to figure out new shocks for this rig and I am not certain if these would be the same as for a VHO or Sierra 1500 or what the hell I should be buying. I dont know if you guys roll the same shocks as the 2 wheel drive SS's due to the z60 suspension / tbars. Truck has 2 inch gforce shackles out back to level and the tbars are dropped about an inch and a half so figure stock length shocks will work. Can anyone can help me out with a biltein shock purchase or edelbrock shocks? Or perhaps give a quick look at your stock shocks and tell me what the OE PN is so I can confirm against mine? (summit and eshocks, etc cannot answer my Q for certain and are telling me they THINK I need the shocks for an HD series truck) Confusion due to not being a VHO or 4 wheel drive and having the z60 and a 5.3 Thanks for any help
  15. Thanks for the welcome all, looking forward to finally getting this rig where I want it to be and got some bonus money burning a hole in my pocket. I'll get some pics up soon, just need to score a spot to host em so I can link
