Also NEVER beat on MY TRUCK that HARD so , I babied her home with a SMILE FROM EAR TO EAR...

    :smash:  :driving:

You have an 2003 and never ran your truck hard?!?! Wow, mine is going to just fall apart then cause I give it at least one good throttle stomp everyday. Then I smle ear to ear as well.

Anyways, Good kills, those Maximas do move (especially for the slightly modded/ stock trucks) :chevy:

  2. I got so mad reading this, I am practically shaking. First, well done for not losing your cool... I'd be in jail. Two, I would absolutely file for grand theft auto and see what can be done about him "stealing your truck"...

Glad to hear your truck is ok. I am NEVER again leaving mine at home...

  3. From what I've been reading alot of the problems seem to be coming from the 03-04's. Would it be safe to say that they fixed the problems from 2005 on. I have a slight whinning noise in mine but only on the turns. Am I safe or will it get worse as time goes on. Mines an 05 with 22,000 on it. Dont wanna jinx myself but maybe I have the problems all of you guys speak of but Im ignoring it in my mind cuz of the hassle of the dealership.  :dunno:

First off I will say I love the truck, BUT... I have had some real problems with my front diff. I had a slight whining sounds when I bought it (used) and that progressively got worse over the first year. Since then, two rebuilds... the last one was done Monday and I am still getting ALOT of noise. Back to the dealership. You're right, its a hassle losing the truck... Good luck

  4. I am not 100% positive, but aren't the Intimidator SS's 2WD and only have 3.73 gearing?  I know the AWD SS has 4.10's right?  That would help for the 0-60 blast.

You are correct, much to my surprise. I thought they had 4.10s also. They lose a litte with the 3.73s but gain a little by losing the 256 pounds (+/-) that the differentail and transfer case weigh.

  5. i had the same thing with my 03. had 190 mi when it was redone for the second time. finely fixed it by replaceing the hole diff. caseing was bad from the manf. and berings were out of spec. also. a lot of 03-and early 04 had issues. i have had no issues at all with it since.    BTW. gm gave me a 5yr/100,000 mi. bumper to bumper 0 deductable for my troubles with it.....

    :seeya:

Well that is interesting to hear. I wouldn't mind the extra warranty, but am more worried about fixing this noise. I haven't driven it 20 miles since the rebuild and it is terrible... time to go back to the dealer. This is the third time so I think I'll demand a new unit. Thanks for the info...

i had to get gm. cus. asst involved. they were very helpfull in getting my issues fixed.also the gm.reginal rep. also. if you have to call them, when you do . TALK NICE TO THEM... they are there to help and not take a lot of ##@&*** from people. it took about 2 weeks for them to get all info. from me and the dealer to start getting things moving, so it will take a little time..

the gm. rep showed up at the dealers with a 03 SS and i test drove it and it had no whine in the frount, so they pulled the frount assm. out from it and put it into mine, i have 31k now and still no noise

    good luck.........

Thanks for the advise. At this point I don't get excited, just want a truck that doesn't sound like a piece everytime I make a turn or slow down. I was going to leave it up to the dealer until now. Sounds like contacting GM direct is my next step. Back to the dealer, woo hooo....

  7. I haven't heard anything about recall on this issue, I figure GM would try to avoid it at all costs.

JAC: thanks for the response, I just get tired of losing the truck/ going to the dealer. My fix it list states that the Carrier assembly and shims is what was done, so I am not sure what to say.

Mr. P: ewww... sorry about the leak. I totally agree, I think they are screwing up clearances because if I am on the trottle when I turn, no noise. If I let off the throttle, yuck... Does this mean anything to you?

In reading the report is says "installed new pinion bearings and set pre-load" and "installed new side bearings and set pre-load/ back-lash." Is there something else that was missed possibly? Anyone? Here's the laundry list:

    (1) 9418356 Bearing

    (1) 12479162 Spacer

    (1) 9413427 Brg Asm-R

    (1) 12471590 Seal

    (2) 15588312 Lock diff

    (2) 9420095 Bearing

    (2) 15801507 Seal

    (2) 89021677 Gear Lube

    (1) PD price diff

    Thanks in advance,

    Ron

  8. Hello all,

I am looking for some comparison/ advise. I have an 03 SS with 57K now. I had the entire front diff rebuilt at 53K and just had it rebuilt again Monday. The dealer can't seem to figure out why I am killing bearings so quickly... but the real question is: Does anyone else have substantial noise from the front diff on low speed turns. After first and second rebuild, the low speed growl never went away. Should I just accept this noise or go back on the dealer. GM has told them the low speed noise is "normal." I am at the point where I might sell the truck if I can't keep bearings in this front end...

Any advise? Does your truck have the same issues? I know this has been talked about many times but I think I am one of the few with two rebuilds in 3,500 miles....

    Thanks,

    Frustrated owner

  9. if i hit the throttle fast and let off fast

that does not sound good. some trucks are drive by wire and I feel these quick throttle adjustments get confused or the truck does not like them :dunno:

Couldn't agree more. The 03's are the only drive by wire right? Mine doesn't mind a quick stab of the throttle unless I let off quickly, then it seems to get confused and won't upshift immediately. BUT, it never clunks.

  10. Well since I bought the truck I have had on-going front end issues. First was a re-built front diff at 50K. Then steering shaft replaced and right, front hub/ bearing assembly replaced. By 55K the low speed noise came back in the front diff (mainly when turning.) Had it checked by dealer, they said it's normal, whatever...

NOW, for about a week I have this sound at all speeds. It is not continuous howl, but sounds like a bristle broom brushing against something at a certain point in the tire's rotation (or something along those lines.) Ie: noise, then momentary pause, then noise.... I figured it was the left, front wheel bearing and was going to take it in to the dealer. Well yesterday morning, on the drive to and from work, no noise at all. Totally quiet. Today, it's back. I am no mechanic by any means, and really would like some sort of advise on what this could be. I like to walk into the dealer with knowledge of what is happening and hope someone could offer some suggestion. Do I have a warped rotor? My brakes are in good shape as far as pad life so it's not the warning tabs (besides that is a metal scratching sound.) This sounds like a bristle broom. I'm confused... thanks in advance, Ron.

  11. My dealer told me that was normail and that there was nothing that could be done.

I had a rebuild done at 50K and within 5K I have the low speed turn/grind noise back. I have had in it in the dealer again and they shrugged their shoulders and said it was normal also.

As for the rebuild... it took my dealer 2.5 days, dropeed off Monday morning and returned to me Wednesday afternoon. Good luck.
