I know you mean the trunk lid, right? The scoop is a B&M 2-piece (top and bottom) with filter. I carried an allen wrench in the glove box and you simply unscrew the counter-sunk allen bolt, then close the trunk and re-install the scoop. To open the trunk lid, same process but you need to use the key to unlock the trunk first. I can't believe there are pics of my old car getting around, too funny.

Yes, 2x3, ladders, Koni Coils, not much flex. Yes, 9's with a 150-shot, 10.40 to 10.60 all motor, and 91-octane unleaded either way. Where did you find those pics of my old car? I just had a flash back of when I hand fit that grille. Now some beans: Engine_454 Trans_Glide Converter_4500 Rear_Dana 60

Yes and Yes, my sig is current. My 1968 Camaro SS has more left, but like my Corvair, It wont be getting a roll bar. Since NHRA requires a roll bar if you go quicker than 11.50's, I just let it short shift in Drive at 5,000 rpm. My 1975 Vega has more left as well, but the class I race in is a 10.60 Index class. I have only pushed the car on two different occasions, it easily ran in the 9's both times with a conservative tune. I would like to run it hard some day and see how much it has left, but I would need to get my chassis certification updated as well as my competition license. There just isn't much point though, because of the class I run in.

I took it to a Run-Watcha-Brung at the local airport, which is where the picture was taken. I made the Quick-8 there running in the 7's in the 1/8th. No one could really hook there, it was a temporary track (airport parking lot). I tried to take it to a real track, but they laughed at me and said "bring it back after you install a roll cage". I built it as a Pro Street Cruiser and had no intentions of putting a roll cage in it. It was a fun cruiser though, lots of attention.

Using LS1 EDIT on my friends LS1-Corvette, I set it up to lock-up the converter at WOT 2 to 3mph higher than the 2/3-shift. It knocked off 1-full 1/10th and added 2-mph in the 1/4-mile. I would have programmed it to lock-up at WOT 2-3mph after the 1/2-shift if it was my own vehicle.

The only vehicles in my sig, are the vehicles I've had since I joined this site. I sold my Corvair over a year ago and my Grand National over two years ago, so I don't include them in my sig. I've owned close to 40-vehicles and most of them were not your average car. I only have 5-vehicles right now. I used to average 10+vehicles at a time, Insurance & Registration are a killer though. Somehow when I saw that pic of your old truck, it made me think of my old Corvair, so I thought since this thread topic is "Racing Old School", I would post a pic of that 2200lb big block car.

"What am I trying to say"? I guess I'm trying to say we have different definitions of the word "SLEEPER"...? ;) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You know I'm Kidding,............ Don't you?
  12. Do you know what it ran before the Nelson-Tune? Also, check out topic "1/8 mile to 1/4 mile conversion chart" (in strip) if you haven't already. I just bumped it to the top, so it is easier to find.

As you probably know, the hood is still there, and the engine is in the trunk. I'd like to hear some more guesses. I will spill the beans in the near future.

Haha!!!!!!!! I would have! Hard to do when we both sold our trucks though... Love the Corvair!!!!!! What year are those pics? What's your sleeper? Or is it the Corvair? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The pics are from about 1999-2000 and yes, my corvair is the sleeper I was talking about, What are you trying to say?

The higher your converter stall is the more the rpm drop will be when the converter locks. In my '68 Camaro SS, '87 Grand National and '90 Silverado (in my sig pic), I have a switch that forces lock-up right after it shifts out of 1st gear. With the switch on my ET drops about 2/10th and my MPH picks up about 3-mph versus no lock-up the whole 1/4-mile (this gain is in all of my vehicles). The high stall converter is great for launching, after the launch you are better off with the converter locked. Running the converter locked the hole way can be harder on the transmission (so I have been told), but I have always locked up my converter just after first gear on all of my vehicles that have a lock-up torque converter and have never had a problem from doing so. EDITED: TYPO
  16. and like they did with the Camaro in 1970.

OH-NO YOU DI'INT !!!!! Are you callin' me out? Don't make me bring out the real sleeper, LOL. And yes, I am the slim guy with the white t-shirt in the driver's seat, no really. That big kid sure makes that Toyota 4x4 look small though. POP QUIZ: What year, make and model is my little gem? For extra credit, what engine, transmission and rear end does it have? Sorry about the bad pics. They are old proofs that I just scanned.
  18. I got it through my friends shop (local) for $250. Most places have it for that price. Dealer Locator You can do a Yahoo search with this p/n INSM-0010 and find it mail order for around $250 as well.
  19. After your first tranny went out, it may have left debris in the cooler and lines. After the second tranny was installed and the cooler and lines were flushed. The return line from the cooler should have been removed and a flow test should have been performed. The Tube and Fin type coolers can be flushed out most of the time. The Stacked Plate type coolers can not be flushed properly if it has debris in it and it should have been replaced. Same goes for the cooler in the radiator. Then a Magnetic Filter (see below picture) should be installed in the cooler return line for the first 500 miles, and then be removed. If (and I say if) the shop that inspected your transmission said the problem started with the torque converter after inspecting the transmission and torque converter and did not inspect your cooler and lines. They may have missed a clogged cooler. If your cooler is clogged, that would cause tremendous heat to build up in the torque converter and cause it to fail in a very bad way. This may not be the case with yours, but I have seen several transmissions fail over and over in the same vehicle and they never flow checked the return line from the cooler that was very plugged up. This may not be your problem at all, but also should not be over looked. Keep us up to date.
  20. I have been using TCS Converters in all of my performance applications for over 15-years. I have never had one of their converters fail. I also deal with TCS directly. I am running TCS converters in all three of the below vehicles. The third vehicle is in my signature.
  21. detjoe, I forgot to mention that your installation looks good, also when you go to the track for testing, maybe you can take a roll of Duct-Tape with you and after a couple of runs the way it is now, you can take the Duct-Tape and seal the factory openings off, so that your ram air doesn't blow out your fender. Also take the duct-tape and seal the white pvc pipe to the bottom of the air box, so all of the air that your scoop picks up is forced into the intake manifold. Then run it again and see if it improves. If it does improve you can remove the Duct-tape and reseal it with something more substantial. If it does not improve, you can simply remove the Duct-Tape and throw it in the trash. Let us know how your track testing goes. I need to stop posting so late at night, nothing seems to come out right. You may have already done all of the above or don't want to. I am just offering up some opinion here, Good Luck.

    first time

I have not raced my 06 VHO with the towing on. I will have to try that next time I go to the track. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It will likely slow your truck down. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is what I thought and is why I never tried it. I will probably try it next time out anyhow, just to see the difference with my truck. put-put-put
