Sorry, no times or slips. The event was held on a airplane run way. Basically like street racing, but still a controlled event.

    SS vs. SRT10

I know lots of you are going to think I'm full of it, but this race really did happen, plenty of witnesses and captured on video. Well, another Race Wars event was held today. I show up and the first race I see is a Lighting matched up with an SRT10. I thought the SRT would spank the Lighting, but the Lighting won by about 4/5 lenths, easily. So I figured what the hell, I just wanted to see how I compared to the SRT. So we line up, the hands drop and were off, pretty even at the start and the next thing I know I'm a half truck in front but he's gaining slowly. By the end of the quarter (keep in mind this is all on video) I beat the SRT by a bumper This SRT10 was completely stock, automatic, crew cab version with 10k on it. Are those truck over rated or what? The SRT then raced a Harley (SC) and lost by a truck, again this is all captured on video. I know you think the SRT was spinning big time, but he wasn't. I don't think I seen the SRT win a race to be truthful, I later saw the SRT matching up with diesels. SRT won that race. So what do you guys think was up with the SRT10? Even a bad driver with 500hp is fast, compared to my little SS. My other races were against a short bed 5.3L (no extended cab) chevy, I smoked him by probably 7 or more lenths, lost to a GMC VHO (2WD) by a truck, won against a stock (CAI only) SS by truck and a half, and got smoked by a Lighting (5 lengths). Had fun all day, it was a blast (win or loose).
  5. I am planning on racing this weekend and thought about mounting some 16's. Just curious if the 16's will fit on my AWD 05 SS? I have disc breaks at all four corners. I heard 16's won't fit on the 2WD SS. Is this true? Why do the 2WD SS's have drums in back?
  6. The superchip I had in my truck improved my trucks performance alot (so I thought). The only thing I disliked was the shift firmness while at cruising speed. My truck would shift hard in evey gear, even when babying it. Shift firmness setting was at SC recommended setting. Anyhow, I have since installed a Nelson tune and absolutly love it! Shifts are smooth while cruising and stiff 1/2 to wide open throttle. I was never timed using one or the other, but just from the seat of my pants, I can't tell a whole lot of difference? Oh and I love getting there first toooooo
  7. Yesterday me and a friend of mine ran our SSS's. Ive got a 2wd with straight pipes and it is diablo programmed. He has an AWD with flowmaster 40's. We raced 4 times and every time he would pull away about half a truck length but by 50mph i had passed him and was gone. By the time we got to 100mph i had like 3 truck lengths on him. By the way my SS has 22's. I didn't think a programmer did that much. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It would be interesting to see you guys race if your buddy had a tune or programmer, just to make things a bit more even. Those programmers really help in the upper RPM range, I'm not so sure you'd catch your buddy if he had a programmer. If your buddy is interested, I've got a superchip programmer for an 04/05 SS, asking $275. When I raced OUT2WIN I also was running with 22's, he was on stock 20's. Its all in fun anyway, I love seeing how each mod improves the perfromance of my truck and my other buddies. We have a blast no matter who wins or loses.
  8. With my mods and on 22's, I was 1/2 a truck behind my buddies SC Harley . I've never been to a timed track but the Harley runs 14.57 consistantly (he's stock), so you should be in the mid 14's, I would think. Hope that helps.
  9. I have heard nothing but good things about Dynatech. They actually have a new "revised" batch of headers being released. The pacesetters are nice too and are less expensive. I have heard going with shorty headers is a waste of time. Let me know what you decide and post up some pics of your truck with the hood. I havent seen it around for a while. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Whats up? I actually ordered the hood last Monday (July 24), should have been here by now. Hopefully I'll have painted and installed by next week, I had it shipped to a paint shop. They said it would be nothing to get it painted ASAP, I can't wait. I was talking with Barry and Steve today, we were thinking of heading to Spokane September 9th. Are you available? We should get everyone together and role up. I'd love to race the Harley again with 16's this time. Bro - I think Steve believes he can hang with us? Barry was always beating him and the other day they raced 4 times, Steve smoked him bad. I also raced Steve (on a different day) and I smoked him by probably 3-4 trucks and still pulling on him. Steve says his truck is runing alot better now. What do you think? Anyway lets try and hook up on Sept 9th.
  10. If price were not an issue, which brand of headers would you guys recommend? I see alot of you have the Pacesetters LT's. I noticed the dynatechs are probably the most expensive, are they worth the money? Also, on average what sort of gains could I expect? I've heard headers are worth there weight in gold and also heard not to bother spending the money. Any feed back would be appreciated. I'm looking to get some decent hp/torque gains with easy installation. Thanks for the help fellas!
  11. I hear ya! When my SS was stock, I raced my buddies Hemi with similar mods (superchip, CAI, exhaust). From a stand still I would beat him by a truck, from a rolling start he'd beat me by a truck (everytime). Though now my SS has Corsa exhaust, CAI, and a Nelson Performance tune; and my buddy now adding headers. I am now an easy 4-5 trucks in front of that Hemi (everytime). You know what to do now! Hope that helps.
  12. Along with with the SS we have an 06 Charger R/T. Though I haven't actually raced the two against eachother, I feel my SS pulls much harder off the line with the wife's R/T pulling very hard on the top. With the SS I hang with trucks running mid 14's, who knows maybe the SS can hang on long enough before the 1/4 ends? One of these days I'll find out, when the wife is out of town . Later!
  13. Well I finally got to race the Harley at Race Wars. The event is like old school drag racing, just pick who you want to run and line up. No tree, no time slips, just someone lining you up and dropping the hands!!! So the Harley guy and I are staging. He lights his tires up getting em warm, I can hear the wine...I'm getting nervous at this point thinking I bit off more than I can chew. So we line up and the hands drop, I jump out on him by a truck right away. I'm thinking I got this, mid way though second gear we're dead even. By the end of the quarter I'm a 1/2 truck behind him. Sorry guys, I tried to hold on but the Harley got me Oh well it was fun as hell!!! FYI - I was running with 22's, do you guys think if I rounded up some 16's I could take that damn Harley. I'm not sure if it would make that much difference or would it?
  14. Thats about what I've heard on this Harley. Last I heard he was running a 14.57. Can't wait to run em. I'll let you know the outcome by the end of this weekend.
  15. I met up with a few fellas who are pretty hard core racers, they are all really cool and have the sweetest trucks. We all met one day just admiring each others rides which was awesome BUT I think we all wanted to see how they would run too! So of course we head out of town to run em. A few trucks made some nice runs but I think me and the other 2WD SS wanted to see where our trucks stood. Both SS's have similar mods. My AWD SS has CAI, Corsa catback, and Nelson Tune. My buddies 2WD SS has CAI, longtubes (no cats), and a tune (not sure which kind). Anyhow, we line em up and hit it. I immediatley jump on him by 1/2 a truck, around 100mph we shut em down and I would say I was a truck and half in front. Man was that fun! Oh, we are all getting together again this weekend for a Race Wars event. One guy in the group has a fairly stock Ford Harley truck (supercharged). Would my AWD SS with 16's stand a chance against the Harley? Win or loose I will soon find out, just wanted to see what you SS'ers thought?

    Oil life %

Just curious, I just had the first oil change in my SS since I've owned it. I the service shop use a highly recommended synthetic oil. The shop where I had it serviced claimed that I could go for 5000 miles until my next oil change. My question is...how does the oil life % tell when the oil needs changed. Is it just a calculated amount between miles/hours or what? Does the sensor/indicator actually know when the oil has broken down? Or do I just change the oil when it starts getting black? As I said, I was just curious if anyone knew how this oil life indicator worked. Any info would be great. Thanks!

    05 SS vs BMW Z3

Man, I've been getting hit up to race lately! With my fiance, on the way home from the grocery store this little BMW Z3 convertible pulls up at the light next to me. He's inching forward like he wants to get it on. I tell me fiance to hold her coffee cup as I drop it to 1st gear. Sure enough the light turns green and he nails it, so do I. The whole way the Z3 is about 10ft in front of me (my nose is at his rear tire), we shut it down around 90mph (in a 35mph). The guy was cool and gave me the thumbs up as did I. Anyone know what those little BMW Z3's run? Later!
  18. Ya, looking in my rear view mirror I could tell he was struggling through the gears. He really doesn't know how much car he has. Has more money than #!2#!
  19. On my way to work a buddy of mine has his SS camaro and rapidly gaining on me, I know he wants to race. He pretty much did a fly by, so I figured what the heck...I don't ever back down Im always up for a race. I flag him to slow down, he does, I say lets go from a stand still, he agrees. We take off, he spins, Im at least three lenths ahead of him through first, he flys by me around 65mph. We get to work he says he about shit when I pulled on him at the start. He couldnt believe a truck could take off like that. Anyhow it was fun, even though I lost. Oh and since my bolt on mods, there has been NO Hemi (with similiar mods plus) that will keep up! Later!
