  1. I finally found a place in town to do brakes/rotors/labor for 575.00 plus tax. But now i keep thinking i'm gonna do it myself. As long as i don't screw things up to bad, the labor $ i save will get me some shocks. I found the brake install how-to, but the pics are gone. Anyone know what gives? And btw, thanks Fireman for web listings.
  2. Did you go online for your pads/rotors? Spent 45 min on the phone locally looking for the hawks and power slots or even baer parts...nobody in this one horse town can get any of it. If you get a minute let me know. Thanks.
  3. Where did you Bilstein guys and Energy Suspension guys pick up your parts ? Haven't had much luck here at the local parts stores. I'm guessing online is the ticket....is that the case?
  4. The quote from the dealer was $850 for parts only. No *W$*(#* way am i spending that kind of coin. I've done enough different kind of jobs myself to know the value of doing it yourself. But i've been burned by doing that as well. I'm hellbent on doing this myself and honestly i don't think it'll be a problem with a little research. I really appreciate the input from you guys. Sometimes that's all it takes to get things done. Has Mr. P or anyone else done a HOW-TO on this? Tools needed, etc , or is it just like you say Wrecker? If i can get the parts, it's gonna happen this weekend.
  5. Can it really be that simple? If that's the case, i'm assuming that GM factory brakes/rotors are as-usual-overpriced, is there another brand that is cheaper but equal or better in quality? I certainly don't want to sacrifice on quality here. And i don't have a problem buying from the dealer if it's a good solid product at a fair price.
  6. 2004 AWD with 45,000 miles. Needs new brakes and they said rotors are rusted and shot also. All this will cost around $850 at GM dealer. Probably stay with factory parts due to moderate driving and occasionally pulling a 21' boat. Any ideas if this is worth doing myself, and if so, is there a thread on it. I searched here at work and didn't have any luck on the forum search. Or would i not save enough to do it myself. I've also heard a lot of talk about upgraded parts. Is it really necessary if you're not doing anything extraordinary with the truck? As usual, any advice would be much appreciated. Mike
  7. I'll check with local shop on prep/paint/labor costs and get back to you this week. Where are you located?
  8. Still looking for tailgate with all hardware or none, wing or not. Hoping someone with one sitting in back of garage or a parted out truck is ready to let go. I'll pay shipping also. Mike
  9. Still looking for a tailgate if anyone has one or knows who may have one. I'd like black as i'd rather not have to repaint. Would also like complete, but would work with you. Thanks everyone. Mike
  10. Hey Brian, sorry it took a while to get back here. I'd like to hold out for a complete gate, ALTHOUGH, i could use everything off of my trashed gate to put on yours. I'll email you. In the meantime, if there are any complete gates out there, PLEASE let me know. Mike
  11. Long shot here, but i'm looking for a stock black gate still. If you end up wanting to sell outright, maybe we can talk. Mike
  12. Is that off of an SS? And does that even matter? Thanks. And, when you say not perfect, what exactly does that mean?
  13. I'd have to say i agree with you Tim. I really think i could gut through the job and i THINK i'd enjoy it, but too much to chance. Maybe don't trust myself enough. The money to have it done will be well worth it, i'm sure. As for the airbags, that's gonna happen with the drop. I need a good ride and don't want to sacrifice to much for the drop. The interesting part of this is going to be finding a good shop in northcentral kansas. Thanks for all the input, it's much appreciated.
  14. Hey Tim, first of all, thanks for your opinions/expertise. I have a question...i have been waiting to drop my '04 SS for some time now. I've read Mr P's how-to as well as all other opinions and they're great. I want to get the most expertise i can before i start this. I just need to get it in gear. I know i can do certain things in terms of mods go, but have been a bit reserved about this. Is it something your average joe with SOME technical ability should undertake? If so, i want to drop the front about 2" and the rear to whatever it takes to level it out. Of course, i tow a 21' boat on occasion so i don't want to do more than i should. Any suggestions on where to start, where/what to buy (with McGa parts), etc? I need to get this done. It belongs closer to the ground. I appreciate anything you got. Mike
  15. Still looking if anyone has one or knows who has one. Thought i had one with a handshake via email but that fell through. Thanks for any help.
  16. Yeah, very interested. What kind of shape is it in? What year from if that matters?
  17. If anyone knows of a salvage i could pick one up from, I'd appreciate hearing about it. My tailgate has been randomly falling open over the last 3 weeks. Last night towing a boat, it fell open without me knowing and had a fight with the spare tire on the trailer. Bent the hell out of tailgate. Thanks for any help.
  18. Looks great. Helped me out too. I wanted to do a 2" drop, but was thinking maybe a 2/3 instead. I think it needs a 2/3 drop for me personally, so thanks. I appreciate the pics. Looks great. You happy with the ride? What did you use front and back?
  19. I was thinking about a 2/3 drop but afraid of dropping the back to much. Any chance of some more pics around the sides and back of yours? I really like it and think you did the right drop.
  20. So, i've got CAI, exhaust and a PCM tune. That's it. I don't want to get into to much, but i'm looking for some gains i can do myself. Anyone have suggestions about whether this is a good next step? Sounds like fun. I love my wifes TBSS stall. Could be a hell of alot of fun or the SSS.
  21. I'll take the PCM. Consider it sold. I'll PM you.
