  1. shift kit isnt really going to make it go faster.  but for me there isnt much better than launching from a light and chirping the tires when it goes into second.

rivierakid is half right, half wrong. a shift kit dollar for dollar is not the best modification you can do. however, by installing a shift kit you are doing a few things (generally speaking)

you are/can raise shift points so the trans will shift higher in the powerband, not always what you want, but it usually doesnt hurt.

"reprogramming" the transmission to engage the shift solenoids/servos to more or less "slap" the bands instead of "rubbing" the bands, which DOES increase transmission life, the life of the bands and clutches, respectively, the hardparts of the transmission may or may not hold up very long depending on usage/shift kit installed.

increasing line pressure which is one of the main points of a shift kit. increasing line pressure will usually result in firmer shifts.

for someone just starting out i would recommend a cold air intake. cheap and easy to install.

depending on how fast you want to go, you can always add a quality cat-back system, which is more for sound/looks than performance, but if you are looking to see a real difference on your truck bolt on a set of long tubes, and tune your pcm accordingly.

  2. well I never knew about that livernois kit at the time that I bought this setup... If I woulda known I would have got it rather than the STS... I do everything with my truck from pulling my boat to pulling my sleds... I guess if anyone would offer me a reasonable amount I would probably sell it so I could go that other way now... that is if no one knows of anyone that could help me out... I live in Canada by the way...

what is a reasonable amount ??

  3. only harm ive seen an oil'd air filter (exe. K&N) cause was "gunk/buildup" in the A.I.R diaphrams & mass air flow sensor hot-wire/meter on a camaro... this was due to owner fault.... he re-"charged"/oiled his K&N and slapped it back in seconds after applying the oil... not to meantion the excess amount he applied didnt help either...

other than that, ive never seen a problem... ive heard CRAZY/Looney stories from a looney Heavy tech at my old work... he said that a C.A.I sucked in water and it got into the c.chamber thus causing a bent rod???:dunno:

water in a combustion chamber will cause a bent rod pretty quick. however, water can get through a paper filter too. that and n.v.h is why there is so much ducting in our intake tracts.

  4. ive really only got to say one thing on this......FLOWMASTER :P  :D

normally i would agree, i had both fm50's and fm40's at one point in time on my r/t and they sound bad-ass, but the magnaflow kit came on my truck when i bought it, and i think it sounds good, and it gets lots of compliments. a little too "fluffy" sounding for my taste as i love the flowmaster sound, but they do sound pretty good.

  5. after a few more weeks of the truck, im definitely interested in keeping the stock deck in there...it sounds pretty decent, just needs some bass. i was going to do the fiberglass box route, but i dont have time till these mustangs are out of the driveway...maybe ill take a dive at work and take a few months off LOL.

ive got 2 10" jl's in small truck boxes and ive got amps, but would like to switch amps... all i need is these pac-24 dealies and i should be all set.... thanx for the reply!!!

  6. whats up guys...ive got an 03 with the bose system and no onstar. im adding subs but want to keep the factory in dash 6 disc. i need to get adaptors to get signal wires to the amplifier, i'd prefer to convert them to rca cables, but if line level is all thats available ill make it work. any suggestions???

also, if i replace the door speakers, what ohm speakers should i replace them with to to work with the factory head unit???

  7. ive got 2 big jl 10's in truck boxes mocked up under my seat (i do not have time to build a 'glass box right now)....they fit, boxes are a bit under the 0.8 cf mark but theyll sound tight. i definitely think 4 subs is excessive...theres not a whole lot of air to move around in the truck....its more for shock value, but if thats what youre after, more power to you!

  8. i might do lines, hawk seems like a quality product, and as far as rotors, i still dont know who ill try. i tried some jcwhitney slotted/drilled on my dakota and they fell apart 2000 miles from my house. not fun. you get what you pay for, im not looking for the cheapest, but i dont want a lot of flash either, just a good quality set of matched fronts/rears.

  9. E-bay has been having killer deals, on stock replacement slotted rotors for both the front and rear. There were a few auctions that were rotors front and rear with pads front and rear for about 3-400 dollars.

ebay can have good stuff, but i'd be really careful with their brake products. if its a wholesaler, by all means, go for it. but if its a no-name newcomer, be very careful. they will use the correct molds/dies/ but inferior metals to make a fatter bottom line. i know im stating the obvious, but use caution!

  10. ive been out of the truck scene for about a year, but this sss is a curse. ive had it two weeks, and already the mod bug has hit. i need new brakes already, i knew that when i bought it so im not upset. dont want to go to big rotor kits or anything, just looking for a good set of front and rear rotors and a quality, long wearing pad. any manufacturers/vendors you guys have had good luck with??? anyone to stay away from???

  11. is this in an extended cab??

ive had the truck just a shade under two weeks and im absolutely in love. im going to use a dynotune nitrous kit, ive heard nothing but the best of them, how much is your pcm with tune running these days?? also, want a cold air kit, anyone you recommend or to stay away from?? are you spraying off the line or once you get out a little ways?? how are your 60' times?? and lastly, is there anyone making a direct bolt in valve body and/or servos for our trucks?? newbie question, but the trans doesnt have to come out to change servos correct??

thanks a lot guys, really looking forward to some quick times. i poured about 13 grand into my r/t just to get 13.1's....boy was i barking up the wrong tree.

ps- in 03, what are the specs on internals??? forged or cast, etc etc, compression??

    thanks guys.

yeap, im still a newbie to the silvie ss. are they all extended cab? i thought that only 03 was awd, im probably misinformed.

It's an SS which is extended cab AWD. Brian at Pcmforless did the tune (for nitrous) I spray it right off the line, my 60' times have been 1.8 - 1.9. As for trany questions you may want to ask zippy on here he has the mods for our trannies.

I have not had any problems yet :fingersx:

  12. I've got a 125 wet shot set up and the few mod listed below. my fastest time has been 12.91@104mph. The truck has run flawless so far :fingersx: . Whe ntalked to the guys at Nitrous Express they said the truck could handle it without any mods. If I remeber correctly the stock internals are rated to 500hp. I am going to bump it to a 150 shot with the jets, my system will handle a 200hp shot but i need to change the lines from my solenoids to the nozzle from a -3 to a -4. Past 200hp you will need to start doing some up grades, fuel pump, tuning etc. I do have my pcm tuned for the 125 set up, Brain at pcmforless did it and the truck runs great, I highly recommend him

  13. i still have a nitrous kit, and i miss being on the sauce... anyone on here spraying their ss??? how much can the motor hold, the trans, the awd??? any time slips on a shot/?? any info appreciated.

  14. whats up guys. new owner from south chicago. i bought the ss on monday 5-29-06. it is now 6-1-6 and im pretty much addicted. i had a 99 dakota r/t modded all to hell, and im pretty sure motor on motor the ss would have handed the r/t its ass, at least to 75. i love the truck, now to see if i love the insurance... just got quoted 150 a month!!! ouch!

anyway, just a quick intro, talk to you in the forums!
