  1. i don't know if i did'nt type it in right or not?.. so please don't flame me because i tried to search for it... and this is probably a simple question?.

doe's anyone make a higher then stock lift rocker arm for the LQ9?.. if so how much are they and where do i get them?.. will they make a noticeable difference?.. are they hard to install?.. what are the pro's and con's???

i know nothing about the inner workings of this engine (i'm used to te old 60's stuff) and don't want to realy mess with anything internal, so if i could remove a valve cover swap in the rockers and pick up 10-15hp then i'm interested.. i'm just not sure if that could be done to this engine like my older cars

please help me if you can.. and remember at least it's not an exhaust question! :jester:

  2. hello everyone, my truck has the duel ride control feature.. you push the button on the dash and it changes the firmness of the shocks. the owners manual says it for towing (did help a lot when i used it for towing) and can be left on for better driver control/handling (realy makes a big difference).

the thing is i love the suspension when i want is smooth/soft it is, when i want it firm/responsive it is.. so my question is how to lower it without changing any of the ride in either setting? :dunno:

i know if i use lowered spindles in the front the suspension stays the same in everyway just 2" lower...

but it's the back that i cant figure out?.. i will not use shackles they add to much travel to the spring (hated my 05 after i used them).. if i use 2" drop hangers won't the shock be in more of a loaded state at all times?, or will the difference not be noticeable :dunno: ...

my truck was much higher new then my 05, and i noticed what look to be like blocks on the rear end under the leaf's?... if it is a factory block could i just remove it?... doe's anyone know if all the silverados came with this or just the

V-max's?... any help would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks.

    superado.

  3. I put this in the Engine mod section, but I think this is a better place for my question.

Greetings!  I've been looking for a new truck for a while now.  I currently have a heavily modded Supercharged Toyota 4Runner.  I love it, but I need the functionality of a truck.  I was thinking of getting a new Tacoma, but I recently came across a 2003 SS in black  .  It's too good a deal to pass up (18,000 w/78k), but before I jump, I want to know what the initial good/inexpensive mods are.  I've started research, but this seems to be a good place to get an easy answer.  I'm looking for things like ECU tuners, intake, exhaust, and no cost tricks to get the most hp for the money while still maintaining driveability and decent MPG?  What works the best for you guys, and what should I stay away from?

I should also mention that I HATE FORD, and it would be nice to stomp a stock Lightning.

    Thanx in advance!

i'm kinda new to the site as well but from all the research i've done plus questions i've asked.. i've done the duel exhaust 2 super 40's (under $300 installed) and will soon do the pacesetter headers everyone seems to favor those somewhere in the low$400's for ceramic coated or high $200's for the black painted one's. as far as intake i'm leaning towards the volant, but they say the outlaw is good to and cheaper from what i found.. tuning your pcm is going to be the biggest gain, pcmforless, or wait4me, are spoken of highly and not very expensive either more performance and cheaper then a handheld tuner.

always glad to see someone convert from the otherside! :) the one thing america has always done right are trucks! :chevy: so welcome to the site

  4. wow guy's those times are better then what i expected! :D

my truck is a 06 v-max 2 wheel drive with 4.10's so it might be possible to hit high 14's on a good day?.. a few mods and i should be able to hit mid 14's right?... i thought it was good for at best a low 15.. but good news is always appreciated :D

i think i'll take my truck to the track and see what happens i'll post back on friday night :jester:

  5. well i just got itand inside it sounds noticeable from idle to muscular and throthy at wot :D

as far as outside goe's.... saying it's louder then the single deltaflow 40 i had on my last truck would be a huge understatement (tee hee) it now sounds like a nascar, to me anyway.. MuHuHahaha  and i have not noticed any drone, buzz, or ressonance of any kind yet! :D i have'nt took it on a freeway yet but when i do i'll let everyone know...

also how do i post an audio clip? or video with sound?... someone tell me how and i'll do it...

good luck with yours i think you will love it

  6. it's a VortecMax silverado new for 06 i believe in 04-05 they were called the VHO (vortec high output) in 06 there are 2 versions of the "V-max" the perfomance edition which is a mechanical clone of an SS same suspension, 20" wheels, traction control, and all, just witout the trim and badges.. and theres the vortec max performance package... which includes 4.10 gears on my extcab

So what your saying is the V-Max is just a cheaper version of the SS just doesnt have the 6.0 and top of the line package that the SS does?

no thats not what i said, i thought i was pretty clear with what they included?.... there are 3 trucks you can get with the LQ9 6.0 v8 there are the SS, V-max performance edition (SS cheaper twin), and the V-max performance pack which is a heavy duty version of the LQ9 can tow over 10,000 lb's... all have there advantages over the other.

but all of them have the 6.0 LQ9 345hp engine... and as far as top of the line packages go the ss doe's not come standard with anything more then the "performance edition" trucks do except for external appearance options.. and the "performance package" trucks don't have the 20"wheels standard and come with a slightly different suspension set-up and heavy duty drive-line components so they can tow more then an SS... so to some it up the same interior and options are standard on all 3, only the body is different between the ss and performance edition.. and the performance pack is the heavy duty version... i hope this answers your question and clarify's your understanding.

any other questions let me know..

  7. I have to ask what is a V-Max i still have not figured this out yet  :dunno:

so there you go that's my pride and joy... i got the perforamce pack cause i already had 20" wheels, and wanted the 4.10 gears.. and i like the duel ride control suspension (goe's from soft to firm at the push of a button :D )

any other questions let me know.

  8. I did ASM headders, high flow cats, X pipe and dual FM 40 series on a basically stock truck and picked up a little over .3 in the 1/4 mile.  I was pleased.

I too debated the 3" or the 2.5" thing and feel that I made the right choice.  I just grew out of the 2.5 now.

I am in the middle of an exhaust upgrade (for a new project  ;) ) and am going 3" all the way out  instead of the 2.5.  I was running 2.5" with my current set-up.  Once the 3" is fabbed up, I may hit the dyno for a before and after and see if the TQ is cahnged at all.  I like real world #'s for comparo.

Good luck with your mods!  And don't give up on the site yet,...there is a wealth of info here.  Just may take some persistence to get the exact info you wanted.

    hello krambo,

from what i've heard on this site the cat's are'nt a big restriction at all, unless you start to get realy heavy with the mods?.. so i think i'll leave my stock ones alone.

since the exhaust will only flow as moch as the most restrictive part of it will allow, maybe i should do the duel 3" out the back.. because i'm just going to cut off the stock system at the muffler and make the duels from there, so the cats and some of the original 2-1/2" pipe will still be there..doe's that make any sense to anyone?

that way if i need to make it a full 3" someday i'll already have half the system there right?.. :dunno:

now one answer i never got was about the x-pipe.. doe's it help with power or is it just to balnce the sound? :dunno:

and as far as the site goe's, i think i got a grip on how it works, how to handle things, and who is cool so far, there are a lot of nice people on here you just need to get there attention and ask the right questions.. but thanks for the info and the welcoming attitude

  9. i'm personal going with the new super 40's duels out the back (all the sound less buzz?) but even if they have a little "buzz" in the cab like my last 40's did on my 05 duel tips out the side then i will still love them, :D it is a matter of taste.

and i just love that american muscle car sound only a flowmaster 40 makes :flag:

i should have them on by monday or tuesday.. i'll post some pics, and if some one will tell me how i can try to post a sound clip?..

also soon i will add the pace setters and then it should get scary loud! Muho-HaHa-HaHa-Hahaaa...

  10. I mentioned in you last post I have long tubes, no cats and a flo-pro dual in/out muffler, I did not notice any low end torque lost but gain more top end. Shorties you will not loose any low end but wont gain as much on top end. These motors have high compression so you don't have to worry about to little back pressure unless you are going to big in diameter.

tawss04, so do you think 2-1/2" pipe is ok for duels.. or would the 3" system be too much?.. remember i'm only going to do bolt on's until the warranty expires.. but i will eventualy put everybolt on i can, if that matters?.

let me know what you think.. thanks again.

  11. title says it all...

    i spent $400 a year ago for the hood i would like $350 o.b.o. it's a steel hood.

and the springs i bought at the same time, i think they were $80 i'll take $50 new in box.

the hitch is used (one time) it was on my 05 silverado it was the factory hitch, i have all the bolts to mount it i think $100 is fair.

    thanks for looking.

  12. misterp, i don't trust nitrous at least on a new vehicle under warranty.. these engines are'nt cheap if it were a sb 350 nova i would squeeze until "KABOOM" but i use my truck a lot.

a supercharger is more dependable and always there when you want it, and it would'nt be a thought until after the warranty expires.

the 2-1/2" pipe sounds right i just needed to make sure... now do i need an X-pipe or h pipe before the muffler's?... doe's that add any power or is it just to balance the sound?..

    thanks again.

    Superado.

  13. misterp, i live in lancaster ca, (about an hour N of LA). and i do a little bit of everything, roofing part time, auto body repair on the weekends, and i buy and sell old muscle cars in my spare time (thats where the love of cars came from) when i can find'em :D so i guess unless there's another "gypsy" here i'll be the first :jester:

and on the choice of mufflers, i have always liked the flowmaster 40's i already have bought 1 super 40 (supposed to have all the sound and less drone) so i'll just buy one more. it's 3" in 3" out.. should i make the tail pipes 3 all the way back or would 2-1/2" be better?..

  14. also i forgot o add would it be cheaper to get f-body long tubes, i seen some post on that subject and it seems if all i got to do is get out a pry bar and tweak them a bit to save big$$$ then i'll do it?... if that would work i'll do it and post some pics on the install and let all of you know how it come's out, any brand or part number recommended on that note?.

thanks again guys.. feels good to talk about my truck and get some answers!

p.s. i'll try to be more patient in the future :)

  15. tawss04,

    misterp,

    kaotic,

thanks for the reply's.. i feel better knowing there are people here wanting to help, again i'm new here so it seemed to me like i was joining a group that was burnt out on newcomers.

on the exhaust tawss04 you said you have pacesetters and a flo pro (what is that?) muffler but is it dual or not and what size pipe?..

misterp you said that one pipe is a dummy?.. when i looked under my truck it had a cat on both pipes running all the way to the muffler, what i wanted to do was cut them off at the muffler weld up 2 flows in it's place and run dual pipes out the back.. what size i'm not sure of?, do i need an x pipe in there if so where's it go?, i'm not sure what type of header i'm going with later.. i was thinking of the shorty's because there cheap and easy to install but if there a waste then i see no point going with mid's if it's the same cutting and welding to get them in as long tubes then i'll get those but which are good quality and cheap (i know thats an oxymoron but i have to ask) everyone talks about the headers but no one post what they pay?.
