dros44 Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 My mechanic is claiming that it will be over 400 dollars to install TOG headers. Just wondering if this is basically what everyone else saw or is it time to find a new mechanic?
XGMTech Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 sounds a little high... does he think the job will take him all day or something?
dros44 Posted January 6, 2005 Author Report Posted January 6, 2005 Im not sure... its almost half the price of the headers to install them through this guy. My g/f's father knows a mechanic that works out of his own garage so maybe he would be a hell of a guy and give me a great deal.
ChevySSandChevy8.1 Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 400 does seem quite high, considering average shoptime prices, ask around, I bet you can find one cheaper, and if all else fails you can call some buddies over to help you with the install.
Rays B4U Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Maybe in the past he has had the "Header Install From Hell" and is just covering his butt for this one!
dros44 Posted January 6, 2005 Author Report Posted January 6, 2005 yeah i hope hes just horrible at guesstimating.....i might just go with my g/f's fathers friend...
Krambo Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Call MUFFLEX in Trenton NJ. They are on the web also.
Brandon27 Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 That mechanice must have put some headers on a f-body or something. I had 2 sets put on my 94z's and they were hell. I paid 150 both times. Brandon
dros44 Posted January 7, 2005 Author Report Posted January 7, 2005 Just called mufflex in Trenton and they quoted me at 460 for install.
BenKey Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Maybe in the past he has had the "Header Install From Hell" and is just covering his butt for this one! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think this is what it is. I know that my muffler shop won't touch anything to do with the headers if it has headers on it. One of the guys told me that the last one that was done took about 5hrs worth of work, when it was really only quoted for about 2. Headers are a pretty easy job to attempt yourself. Nothing excessive to perform and if you have anything you are unsure of, there are plenty of us here that have done a few.
d_a_n_payne Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 But make sure you dont go anywhere to cheap because I did and they didnt put two of the plugs %100 in and I had to replace all of my plugs.
dros44 Posted January 8, 2005 Author Report Posted January 8, 2005 Well called the mechanic and he said he doesnt wanna get into it. Which makes me think he doesnt know what hes doing. So now i have no body. anyone in jersey wanna install some headers for me?
matt rem Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Do those headers need flanges welded on them or do they bolt right to the 3 bolt flange? Are they shorties?
