I think you'll be ok, we managed for 75 years without them...As efficent as engines are now a days I wouldn't think it would pollute too bad. I had a 93 K1500 with tru duals, no cats and 150,000 miles. It fast passed on the rollers at the smog check. (they forgot to look underneath for the cats).
