7a7SS Posted August 29, 2003 Report Share Posted August 29, 2003 Hello all, I had a close encounter with a law enforcement officer a day or two ago (however he couldn't catch me ) In light of that situation , I've realized my NEED for a radar detector. I'm currently on the fence between the V1 & Escort's 8200 . What I really need to know has anyone paid to have there detector's software upgraded? And, if so how much did it cost? ericwf Posted August 30, 2003 Report Share Posted August 30, 2003 I had a Bell 985 for about a year and a half. Worked fine until it started flaking out on me. I then purchased an Escort 8500 and it works great (its in my wifes care now). Bought a V1 when I bought the SS, I like it better than the Escort for two reasons; 1) I use the 'intelligent' mode which does a great job screening out false positive (not all but most - but it works when its the real thing!). 2) I didn't think much about it before I bought it, but now I really appreciate the arrows that indicate the direction the signal/beam is coming from! The V1 is #1 (IMHO) Now to answer your question: No upgrade yet, haven't had it long enough. But I do plan to take advantage of it when the time comes!!
