zippy
i liked the idea of the volant until i see they are using a muffler in the air tube still.
blackhawk
zippy: Is it a muffler for sound or is it just a filter assembly in the tube?
BenKey
Not a filter assy.

DemonSilverado
What is the purpose of having a muffler in the tube?? Reduce "Sucking" noise that accompanies most aftermarket intake assembly's. Some of the open element intakes are quite loud, I dont know what the sound is like on something like a UPD or Volant (if it didnt have the baffle). blackhawk
Hmmm, interesting how about replacing the muffler with a Kazoo instead, make an interesting head turning sound…
zippy
the muffler is put in there to lower noise, but unfortunatly when you're attempting to straighten the flow of air out, it sure the hell isn't what you're looking for. let the damn thing have a bit more noise. more noise is part of more power. just rediculous. 1stdodge
15853: The 5.3 and 6.0L design opens up the air flow, but still maintains that smooth sound by keeping the same resonator box style that the stock duct has in order to reserve the air for that off the line quick take off. We also increased the diameter duct and gained up to 12 hp and 19 lbs of torque. This is what it is described as at Volant's site.

red64chevelle
The way I have come to understand it, the little bulb on the intakes is only used to reduce the amount of howling noise that the intake makes. It is not a restriction and does not affect performance negatively. Without it you intake would have that same droning noise (or resonance) that you get on imports with the cold air kits. red64chevelle
Does anyone have an updated e-mail address for Volant? I sent them an e-mail to see if they were going to come out with a lower intake for the SS, but my e-mail was returned.
