Does your SS ping and pop in the exhaust area fairly loud after parking it for a few minutes... at least it sounds like it coming from that area... I know this is normal for vehicles when cooling off.. but boy its a loud sound.... just wondering :seeya:

Condition

Some customers may comment on a rattle/popping noise from under the vehicle.

Cause

The separation of the muffler heat shield from the muffler may cause a rattle under the vehicle.

Correction

Install two heat shield retaining straps, P/N 15164621, to the muffler and muffler heat shield. Follow the service procedure below to correct this concern.

If you are talking about the sounds it makes as it cools down (engine off), yes. I think it has become less as time goes on, or maybe I just stopped noticing it. It is just the expansion and contraction of the hot exhaust system, nothing to worry about.

:chevy: Talked GM Rep today about this particular problem.. It IS the muffler!! He took me under mine and we watched as the monster popped as it cooled.. They are not sure what they will do about it and are even less sure as to why it happens...........

It is the expansion and contraction of the cheap metal stuff they use on the mufflers and the heat shield under the truck.

Replace the muffler, and most likely will go away. I have the FlowMasters and no more popping. My wife's suburban pops when she shuts it off.
