2006 SS Transmission Fluid Change

Recommended Posts

I have just turned 7000 miles on my truck and I was wondering if it was a good idea to change the tranny fluid and filter this early?

I buddy of mine said since it is new, I should have changed it around 5K, to remove any initial filings or debris that may have occured during break-in. Any truth to that?

I am considering going back with Royal Purple MAX ATF. I have changed to RP oil, so I was thinking I would change all my fluids over as well.

What about power steering fluid?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well changing fluids and filters never hurts but at this early it is just a waste of money unless there is an indication of a problem (ie burnt fluid or poor tranny operation).

IMO the best use of your money is to buy a shift kit/servos/TBTC/synthetic fluid and wait until the regular tranny service interval (20K-miles) and do it all at that time. That also guarantees a complete switchover to synthetic ATF.
