You shouldn't use Scotch Brite pads for cleaning the wheels, Red (Maroon) pads are ~320 grit Gray pads are~600 grit Gold colored pads are ~900 grit. 3M and Norton both make a WHITE hand pad, it is non abrasive. It works good for cleaning windows while in a manual car wash or cleaning off headlights. They can be found at automotive paint stores...the White pads are the least popular Norton part number is 58001(Bear-Tex) 3M pad is #7445 (Scotch Brite).

I would try the White pad and vineagar.
